APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Thursday March 23, 2006 (MJD 53818) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Dan Long Mike Harvanek ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Finished 6 plates (2431, 2440, 2093, 2228, 2013, 2028). Good data on another plate (2155). Problems with the DA. See the main log for details. PR 6933 was filed. Note that we are now running the old vxworks kernel. Some imager voltage errors. See the main log for details. We lost over an hour to high humidity. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- The DA gave us problems this afternoon. It crashed 4 times immediately after the scrolling display was changed and once in the middle of a bias when no change was made to the scrolling display. Switching back to the previous kernel did not solve the problem. The crashing due to the change in the scrolling display is repeatable. PR 6933 was filed. Note that we are now running the old vxworks kernel. Spectro collimation is set for -1 C. Night: ------ High clouds at sunset with humidity approaching our limit. We begin with spectroscopy. 01:50Z Plate 2431 (cartridge 4): Survey. Guide stars on the gotoField. We obtained one 1500 sec exposure before we had to close due to high humidity (02:57Z). The humidity dropped about an hour later and we reopened (04:00Z). We had to use an FK5 to find the field, however. We took another set of cals and 2 more science exposures and were able to finish this plate in 3 exposures (3600 sec total). 05:05Z Plate 2440 (cartridge 2): Survey. Guide stars on the gotoField. This plate was finished in 3 exposures (2500 sec total). 06:11Z Plate 2093 (cartridge 8): Survey. Guide stars on the gotoField. This plate was finished in 3 exposures (2600 sec total). SoS gave a max sky residual warning. 07:17Z Plate 2228 (cartridge 3): Survey. Guide stars found after several educated guesses at the rotator offset. This plate was finished in 3 exposures (2800 sec total). Watcher reported a vs+ voltage error on ccd 55 but a plot of the values showed the error appeared to be spurious. Didn't get a time stamp on this. Sorry. 08:31Z Plate 2013 (cartridge 6): Survey. Guide stars on the gotoField. This plate was finished in 3 exposures (2500 sec total). 09:06Z Watcher reported a vt+ voltage error on ccd 15. The value was 7.07; the nominal value is 7.05. 09:36Z Plate 2028 (cartridge 7): Survey. Guide stars on the gotoField. The seeing deteriorated (2.5") shortly after the start of the 1st exposure. This plate was finished in 4 exposures (4300 sec total). Seeing was variable during these exposures. More apparently spurious vs+ voltage errors on ccd 55. 11:12Z There was an az abort on the gotoField for the next plate. A series of short movements in the direction of the gotoField got us by the sticky part. 11:15Z Plate 2155 (cartridge 9): Survey. Guide stars on the gotoField. We obtained 1 exposure (1200 sec) before the sky became too bright. endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6063 23:27Z 23:29Z 100 O -117.74 -117.16 18 ignore 6064 23:35Z 23:43Z 100 O -115.67 -113.59 27 ignore 6065 23:47Z 23:54Z 100 O -112.77 -111.07 25 ignore 6066 ???
