APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday March 31, 2006 (MJD 53826) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Mike Harvanek Olena Malanushenko ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- The sky was clear at the beginning of the night, clouds around midnight and clear after that again. We did 2 plates done (2434,2359) and obtained some signal on 4 other plates (2077,2476,2232,1713). One of observed plates is plate 2476 with special instruction. We asked help with plate evaluation from someone from Segue team (Brian Yanny?) If this plate is "done", please, contact with pluggers. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon checkout: ------------------- The checkout has been done and all systems work as expected. The spectro focus is checked and is good. Night: ------- The current weather condition: Cirrus, T=9.4, wind 17.6 mph, humidity 27.5, dust 2370. The forecast is good for couple hours, after that we expect to have clouds. 01:30Z Started ventilations 01:45Z Opened telescope Cartridge 1, plate 2434, chunk, 00:23-04:31 To find the FK5 star we need to make extra offset (-9,+14). Seeing 1.5, focus -75, efficiency 82%. 2:26 Pre-calibration 2:33Z, 2:56Z, 3:18Z doNextScience 1200 3:41 Post-calibration is required and it has been done. "Done", files 38399. Cartridge 5, plate 2077, priority 4, previous signal 35.3 2:51-5:11, segue faint, each >50 Clouds, low efficiency, we still continue to observe. T=8.6, seeing 1.3, focus -75, efficiency 30-75% Used fk5 star 4:17 Precalibration 4:23, 4:51 doNextScience 1500, both exposures had lower then 2 signal-to-noise and both were declared as bad. "Continue" Cartridge 4, plate 2359, chunk, 00:21-8:19 Fk5 star used to find the stars. No stars, clouds, overcast, clouds storm on satellite images. 6:00 closed telescope, left ventilation on. 6:30 opened telescope. Found stars on go to field. Move collimator on +2000 to adjust the position to unexpected high air temperature 9.4C. Seeing 1.2, focus -25, T=9.6 6:45 Precalibration 6:51 doNextScience 900 7:09 doNextScience 900, increased exposure time to 1000. 7:28 doNextScience 1200 "Done", files 38410 Cartridge 7, plate 2476, segcluster141, The guider image size did not fit on normal SAO image display, and so we had to use startMon -simple. Find stars on go to field. T=8.6, seeing 1.2, focus +25, efficiency 85% The plate has special instruction for observations: 5 short exposures of 3 minutes each but since there were a few light clouds we did 7 exposures of 3 minutes each. 8:05 Pre-calibration 8:13, 8:18; 8:24, 8:29, 8:35, 8:41, 8:46 doNextScience 180 We ask help with this plate evaluation from someone from Segue team (Brian Yanny?) If this plate is "done", please, contact with pluggers. File 38415. Cartridge 6, plate 2232, chunk, 3:33-9:53 fk5 star need to find the stars.
