APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday May 17, 2006 (MJD 53873) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Olena Malanushenko Steph Snedden Shannon Watters Mike Harvanek (swing) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Shakedown/science. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Clouds, radar echoes, then high sky backgrounds prevented science. We did finish more shakedown tasks. Current software versions: IOP v4_23_0 sdssProcedures v2_16 Several of Kurt's PRs were closed. Others were left open for him to evaluate. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Spectro focus was adjusted for a night-time temperature of 9C. New collimator numbers are in the problems section. No other problems noted. Night: ------ We delayed opening because of a nearby radar echo, nearby virga, and because of visible clouds in our radar blind spot. We did some of Kurt's tests while waiting, and closed some of his PRs. PR 7005 ------- We started a bias drift, then rebooted node 5. The remaining nodes continued to drift happily along while id5 rebooted itself. A subsequent drift started normally on all nodes. We did get the following error message about the creation of the runlog: makeRunLog failed for run 6151. I have the following diagnostics plus check the murmur log and your screen history: ipVectorGetFromRegion: row/col out of range We closed this PR, but should a new one be filed on IOP's makeRunLog? Do we really want makeRunLog to fail when we lose data from one node? PR 7012 ------- The boot loader switch to Linux that Jon and Kurt did yesterday seems to be working, so we closed the PR. PR 6981 ------- The video displays have been without ragged edges the last few nights, so we closed the PR. PR 7006 ------- The switch to the new astrotools doesn't appear to have broken anything, so we closed the PR. PR 7011 ------- We rebooted the spectro video card between biases. The post-reboot bias read out without problems. We closed the PR. There were other DA-related PRs that we did not close, either because testing requires more extensive use during the dark run or because there were no tests required from us. We will let Kurt decide how to dispose of these PRs. The clouds thinned after midnight, but did not disappear completely, and with so much Moon scattering off the clouds, we felt spectroscopy would have been fruitless. We decided our time was better spent finishing up sdssProcedures shake tasks. The changes to sdssProcedures v2_15 were present and accounted for, but we had the time to fix many more broken links, so we are now at sdssProcedures v2_16. 10:42Z we closed and endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6150 00:17Z 00:32Z 100 O -50.96 -47.18 39 ignore 6151 03:33Z 03:53Z 100 O -1.85 3.19 48 ignore DA test bias 6152 04:06Z 04:13Z 100 O 6.39 8.26 26 ignore DA test bias ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n):n QA Procedures Done (y/n):n UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 39225, plate 2173 ------- 19:16Z 39233 40.0 flat {{flat for bulb test}} 19:20Z 39234 8.0 arc {{orig bulb arc}} 19:27Z 39235 8.0 arc {{prototype arc on/off=6ms/2.5ms duty cycle}} 19:30Z 39236 8.0 arc {{prototype arc on/off=6ms/2.5ms duty cycle}} 19:33Z 39237 8.0 arc {{prototype arc on/off=6ms/2.5ms duty cycle}} 19:38Z 39238 8.0 arc {{prototype arc on/off=5ms/3.5ms duty cycle}} 19:41Z 39239 8.0 arc {{prototype arc on/off=5ms/3.5ms duty cycle}} 19:44Z 39240 8.0 arc {{prototype arc on/off=5ms/3.5ms duty cycle}} 19:48Z 39241 8.0 arc {{prototype arc on/off=4ms/4.5ms duty cycle}} 19:50Z 39242 8.0 arc {{prototype arc on/off=4ms/4.5ms duty cycle}} 19:53Z 39243 8.0 arc {{prototype arc on/off=4ms/4.5ms duty cycle}} 23:38Z 39244 0.0 bias {{}} 23:46Z 39245 10.0 flat post-flat 23:49Z 39246 2.0 arc post-arc 23:54Z 39247 10.0 flat post-flat 23:56Z 39248 2.0 arc post-arc 00:00Z 39249 2.1 arc {{focus, hartmann l}} 00:02Z 39250 2.1 arc {{focus, hartmann r}} 00:21Z 39251 2.1 arc {{focus, hartmann l}} 00:24Z 39252 2.1 arc {{focus, hartmann r}} ----- sequence 39253, plate -9999 ------- 00:32 39253 0.0 bias 00:38 39254 0.0 bias DA test biases 01:34 39255 0.0 bias ----- sequence 39256, plate 2173 ------- 03:48 39256 0.0 bias 04:28 39257 0.0 bias DA test biases 04:31 39258 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:57Z 64 27 6 275 (W) 1206 - mcloudy 00:27Z 58 26 2 33 (NNE) 1178 - ' 01:01Z 57 26 2 324 (NW) 1340 - ' 01:33Z 56 26 0 208 (SSW) 1207 - ' 02:05Z 55 27 5 161 (SSE) 1273 - ' 02:36Z 54 27 2 116 (ESE) 1268 - ' 03:07Z 54 26 5 163 (SSE) 1249 - ' 03:38Z 54 26 13 140 (SE) 1225 - ' 04:10Z 53 26 7 162 (SSE) 1390 - ' 04:41Z 53 25 5 184 (S) 1471 - ' 05:11Z 54 24 5 187 (S) 1370 - ' 05:43Z 54 24 5 191 (S) 1406 - ' 06:14Z 54 23 8 190 (S) 1494 - ' 06:44Z 55 22 8 191 (S) 1605 - partcloudy 07:16Z 52 22 9 224 (SW) 1490 - ' 07:46Z 52 22 8 228 (SW) 1487 - ' 08:16Z 53 21 7 236 (SW) 1473 - ' 08:47Z 54 21 6 238 (WSW) 1391 - ' 09:18Z 53 20 7 259 (W) 1499 - ' 09:48Z 53 21 8 205 (SSW) 1537 - ' 10:21Z 53 20 8 236 (SW) 1509 - ' 10:51Z 54 20 9 224 (SW) 1514 - ' ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 01:30Z - Opened doors and started ventilation. 10:33Z - Closed enclosure doors, ventilation off, spectro autofill connected.
