Good imaging night, 3 stripes done: Legacy: 14 N, from lambda -25 to -18 including the ramps. good seeing 37 N, from lambda 40 to 61 including the ramps (seeing acceptable in some parts of the runs, see the log). Segue: 1188 N from mu 247 up to 312.5 including the ramps. good seeing Problems: VERY SLOW connection between landru and sdsshost2. Sometimes it took minutes to open an iop window from landru on sdsshost2. Jon B. knows about that but he didn't know what is going on. Bad outworld connection!!! Delays on email communications, browsers sometimes are stuck for quite a bit before we can get to the proper information. We are not sure if the nightlog will arrive on time either. Error on trying to get vnc running on our terminal. When we tried to do that we hung the whole terminal loosing easy way for watcher & servers to watch. We were told to leave the terminal with the error displayed till the next day. No one could help us to fix the problem during the night, since it wasn't critical for operation we agreed to live with it. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- While bringing the telescope up to an altitude of 90 degrees to check the fiducial readings, a loud clunk was heard inside the telescope. French was called. The telescope was brought down to 6 degrees and French and Eric extracted a "snowshow" from inside the telescope. French checked around inside the telescope and said it was good to go. The spectro collimation was checked but not adjusted. The collimation is currently set for a temperature of approximately 15 degrees C. No problems to report. Night: ------ During twilight we set up the telescope on run 6159 (the run was stopped and called "ignore"). 03:20Z Run 6160, Stripe 14 N. Started running at twilight. 03:33Z beginning of 2 degree ramp, lambda -25, frame 23 [5 minutes before twilight]. Science starts at lambda -23, frame: 36. 03:50Z In the PGPlot window for the focus loop we notice excursions in the focus trace [frames 22-25; frames 43-46]. That was happening more often during the night. End of the science: lambda -20, frame 56, end of the ramp lambda -18 frame 70. 04:07Z Run 6161, stripe 37 N. The ramp starts at lambda 40, frame 22, science at lambda 42, frame 35. Seeing acceptable during the ramp, then good. Lambda 50.3 frame 91 - nuErr riched 8" then dropped. Science ends at lambda 59, frame 149, ramp ends at lambda 61 frame 162. Acceptable seeing also between: Frame 99 Longitude 51.5 ->Frame 120 Longitude 54.7 05:45Z Run 6162, stripe 1188 N. Seeing good since the beginning. Ramp starts at mu 247 frame 22 scince at mu 249 frame 35. 06:04Z Cloud camera sigma went out of photometric conditions around this time but it's due to some bugs wondering on the mirror surface. 09:06Z There is no time to get other stripe than 1188 at the moment, so we just continue with 1188 N till the Moon rise. End of the science: lambda -20, frame 56, end of the ramp lambda -18 frame 70. 09:55Z The Moon should rise now, but thanks to mountains on the east and small Moon (11%), we barely could tell if the sky is getting brighter and by all means it wasn't on our ccd sky counts. We stopped drifting when we began to see the rise in the sky counts by a few ADUs (like 3) on some chips. The Moon was still below our physical horizon. 10:15Z End of the run 6162. End of the science: mu 310.5 frame 446, the ramp: mu 312.5 frame 459.
