APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday June 16, 2006 (MJD 53903) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Days: Dan Long Night: Mike Harvanek Jurek Krzesinski Shannon Watters Eric Neilsen, Steve Kent - on the phone. ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Shake/Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Done some imaging, but the seeing was bad. One plate done (1813) and got good signal on two others. Telescope pointing looks good. dust integrated counts are low: 26483 Problems: --------- tccmon, iop, stripe number: see the log. tcc - too many open session limit, can we increase that limit up to 30-40? ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- No problems with the afternoon check. Spectro focus was checked and adjusted for the cooler temperatures expected tonight. It is now set for a still rather warm 16 C. 01:50Z Doors Open, Fans On. Night: ------ 02:55Z cart 2 plt 1813 on the telescope. SOGTF. 02:57Z while guiding, suddenly startMon (SAOIMAGE) crashed on us, the error message was cut and pasted to the problem section. Plate done. 04:00Z Imager mounted .... and clouds arrived. Since it's still shake we try to test the imager anyway. Looks like we still have the problem with 290 stripe reported last dark run: im> im> scanStripe 290 N -mu 277 im> goDrift Flavor of this run (science, bias, calibration, engineering, ignore, help) []: science Stripe, Strip (e.g, 22,N or SS,N) [290,N]: Please provide a one line comment [] tcc thinks it's 1078 Input stripe and strip do not match actual telescope pointing. Continue anyway? y <===== see that? 2006-06-17 04:21:27Z: Beginning data taking leap seconds = 33 Eric Neilsen was called, then after some talking with Eric we called Steve Kent. The decision was that we can relay on seeingRun and skippy to tell us where we are on the sky. It might be good to mention the problem on one of the phonecons to find out where tccmon iop and other software get the information about the telescope position and stripe from. Run 6207, stripe 290,N Skippy is happy. Seeing plot shows a proper stripe number and mu. The sky is clear again, but seeing varies. By the frame 29 mu 281 we've got in focus. Seeing acceptable from frame: 35 mu 281.7, which is where the ramp starts. Science starts at frame 50 mu 284. We run also into the problem with tcc connection - too many sessions opened (25). Can we have that limit increased? 05:48Z endDrift - we called run 6207 bad (seeing was variable, but mostly bad). 05:50Z run 6208, bias on the telescope. 06:10Z run 6209 - trying to get donuts on stripe 290,N: well, the stripe is densly filled with stars, so we went to the field with less stars. 06:14Z run 6210 - 82,N (seeing ~1.3") donuts: focus frame infocus: -346 19 out of focus +400: +54 31 out of focus -400: -746 25 Donut frames were compressed and moved to phoenix: /home/observer/data/photo/optics/53903_donuts Looks like the telescope pointing is good. 06:59Z Since the moon is up, we switched to spectroscopy. 06:58Z cart 5, plt 2201 mounted. SOGTF. Some good signal was collected on this plate. Plate NOT done. 08:37Z cart 8 plt 2194. SOGTF. Good exposures done on this plate, but plate is still NOT done. 11:06Z endNight done. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6206 21:36Z 21:53Z 100 O -61.83 -57.47 43 ignore 6207 04:21Z 05:48Z 290 N 92.56 114.30 158 science 6208 05:50Z 06:05Z 100 O 62.01 65.93 40 bias 6209 06:08Z 06:14Z 290 N 119.34 120.92 24 ignore 6210 06:21Z 06:39Z 82 N 70.43 74.98 44 engineering ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6207 24 4 10 0.000 1.388 -6.000 0.236 0.00224 102 43 6207 59 4 96 5.600 0.150 -5.400 0.154 0.00467 99 45 6207 128 4 116 6.600 0.167 -4.800 0.189 0.00627 92 50 6210 9 4 11 4.900 0.091 -4.200 0.094 0.00106 179 57 6210 31 4 20 2.500 0.070 -5.300 0.080 0.00474 179 57 ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6207 35 1 44 79 68 0.920 0.225 1.252 0.198 -0.00421 6207 35 1 44 79 66 0.776 0.262 1.385 0.220 -0.00466 6207 35 1 44 79 67 0.581 0.381 1.410 0.229 -0.00474 6207 35 1 44 79 64 0.522 0.243 1.351 0.154 -0.00454 6207 35 1 44 79 71 0.297 0.277 1.295 0.163 -0.00436 6207 69 1 47 83 59 0.672 0.189 0.071 0.316 -0.00024 6207 69 1 47 83 50 0.685 0.222 0.314 0.182 -0.00105 6207 69 1 47 83 56 0.648 0.197 0.365 0.219 -0.00123 6207 69 1 47 83 57 0.549 0.168 0.331 0.260 -0.00111 6207 69 1 47 83 75 0.427 0.202 0.316 0.233 -0.00106 6207 86 1 48 84 75 -0.204 0.261 -0.867 0.236 0.00291 6207 86 1 48 84 64 -0.154 0.140 -0.692 0.333 0.00233 6207 86 1 48 84 73 -0.015 0.181 -0.597 0.392 0.00201 6207 86 1 48 84 80 -0.169 0.133 -0.538 0.298 0.00181 6207 86 1 48 84 61 -0.446 0.201 -0.627 0.325 0.00211 6207 139 1 51 90 52 0.134 0.260 -0.816 0.412 0.00275 6207 139 1 51 90 51 -0.191 0.277 -0.651 0.316 0.00219 6207 139 1 51 90 63 -0.205 0.272 -0.520 0.386 0.00175 6207 139 1 51 90 59 -0.251 0.359 -0.581 0.511 0.00195 6207 139 1 51 90 40 -0.508 0.541 -0.488 0.603 0.00164 ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n):y QA Procedures Done (y/n):y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 39772, plate 1813 ------- 21:46 39772 0.0 bias 21:54 39773 10.0 flat 21:56 39774 2.0 arc 22:20 39775 2.1 arc 22:22 39776 2.1 arc 23:03 39777 2.1 arc 23:05 39778 2.1 arc ----- sequence 39779, plate -9999 ------- 01:46 39779 0.0 bias 02:41 39780 0.0 bias 02:44 39781 0.0 bias ----- sequence 39782, plate 1813 ------- 03:05 39782 10.0 flat 03:08 39783 2.0 arc 03:26 39784 900.1 target 03:44 39785 900.1 target 03:47 39786 10.0 flat 03:49 39787 2.0 arc ----- sequence 39788, plate -9999 ------- 06:45 39788 0.0 bias ----- sequence 39789, plate -9999 ------- 07:07 39789 0.0 bias ----- sequence 39790, plate 2201 ------- 07:22 39790 10.0 flat 07:25 39791 2.0 arc 07:43 39792 900.1 target 08:11 39793 1500.1 target 08:34 39794 1200.1 target ----- sequence 39795, plate 2194 ------- 08:47 39795 10.0 flat 08:49 39796 2.0 arc 09:18 39797 1500.1 target 09:45 39798 1500.1 target 10:13 39799 1500.1 target 10:36 39800 1200.1 target 10:39 39801 10.0 flat 10:41 39802 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:25Z 2 1813 21.88 -0.0030 63.93 0.0049 198.35 0.0212 1.000200 07:31Z 5 2201 -63.32 -0.0024 59.76 0.0002 128.40 -0.0201 1.000090 09:10Z 8 2194 277.35 -0.0039 62.31 0.0011 112.44 -0.0085 1.000070 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:25Z 2 1813 1.00020 -1975 -542 -50 22 63.9 15.3 13 256 1.2" 07:31Z 5 2201 1.00009 -889 317 -100 -63 59.8 14.1 17 6 1.3 09:10Z 8 2194 1.00007 -691 524 -50 277 62.3 13.3 14 25 1.2 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 20:02Z 62 22 12 282 (WNW) 2242 -
