APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday June 20, 2006 (MJD 53907) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Days: Dan Long Night: John Barentine Elena Malanushenko Also Wik: Steph Snedden ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- There was not very favorable weather conditions this night. We had clouds most of night and even lost more then 3 hours. No imaging, We finished one plate (cart 1, plate 2209) and obtained some signal on two other 4th priority plates (cart 5, plate 2547 and cart 8, plate 2545). The telescope behaved well. The only problem is something was going wrong with sky file expnum=39895 reduction and we ask somebody to check it. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- No problems with the afternoon check. Spectro focus was checked and changed, best focus about 17 C. For all you keen eyed observers, yes that is the same temperature as yesterday despite the change. sp1 was far enough off to need a change, not sure why. 01:45Z Doors Open, Fans On. 02:25Z Enclosure Open. Night: ------ The weather conditions is not good, clouds and storm in south direction of New Mexico. T=18.6C, wind 9 mph, dust 3.8K counts, ph 28%. 3:00 - telescope is ready to go. Cart 5, plate 2547, seguefaint, 02:39-06:59 Plate has previously obtained signal 11.4, 12.6, 11.5, 13.2 3:30 Pre Calibration Guider stopped to see stars because clouds, we have to wait. 4:52 Science (exp 1500)-the weather is not good, but we can see photons again. Focus -100, efficiency 60%-70%. Obtained good signal. 5:25 Science (1500) 6:00 Science (1800) - aborted as have lost the guider stars because clouds. The plate is expaired while before we have clear sky. "Continue." Total s/n for this plate is 21.4, 22.0, 20.5, 21.5 QA: Science file 39895 has problem with plot of sky, Cart. 1, plate 2209, chunk, 3:39-8:27, previous obtained signal 9.5. We wait, clouds. 8:13 Precalibration. 8:20 Science (1380). We observe this plate for 15 minuts after its expiration time. "DONE". Total s/n for this plate is 14.7. Cart 8, plate 2545, Pri 4, seguefaint, 08:44-11:40 The most of sky is clear now. 08:59Z Precalibration 09:07Z, 09:29, 09:53 Science (1200) 10:16 Science (900) We obtained good signal for this seguefaint plate, but have to "Continue" as total s/n=21.2. endNight is completed. 10:45 Closed telescope. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6219 21:59Z 22:11Z 100 O -51.95 -49.17 33 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): yes QA Procedures Done (y/n): yes UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 39880, plate -9999 ------- 22:01 39880 0.0 bias ----- sequence 39881, plate 2547 ------- 22:08 39881 10.0 flat 22:10 39882 2.0 arc 22:15 39883 2.1 arc 22:17 39884 2.1 arc 22:54 39885 2.1 arc 22:56 39886 2.1 arc 23:14 39887 2.1 arc 23:17 39888 2.1 arc 23:29 39889 10.0 flat 23:32 39890 2.0 arc ----- sequence 39891, plate 0 ------- 02:13 39891 0.0 bias ----- sequence 39892, plate -9999 ------- 03:07 39892 0.0 bias ----- sequence 39893, plate 2547 ------- 03:32 39893 10.0 flat 03:35 39894 2.0 arc 05:20 39895 1500.1 target 05:57 39896 1500.1 target ----- sequence 39897, plate 2209 ------- 08:16 39897 10.0 flat 08:18 39898 2.0 arc 08:45 39899 1380.1 target ----- sequence 39900, plate 2545 ------- 09:01 39900 10.0 flat 09:03 39901 2.0 arc 09:29 39902 1200.1 target 09:51 39903 1200.1 target 10:15 39904 1200.1 target 10:33 39905 900.1 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 04:56Z 5 2547 201.79 0.0035 61.25 0.0027 36.21 -0.0053 1.000100 08:24Z 1 2209 286.10 -0.0017 48.82 0.0050 123.22 -0.0177 1.000270 09:07Z 8 2545 162.77 0.0019 48.85 0.0037 -45.21 -0.0198 1.000170 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 04:56Z 5 2547 1.00010 -988 232 -100 202 61.2 18.3 7 112 -- 1.5 08:24Z 1 2209 1.00027 -2666 -1097 -75 286 48.8 16.8 6 173 -- 2.0 09:07Z 8 2545 1.00017 -1679 -304 -100 163 48.8 16.7 6 169 -- 2.0 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 20:38Z 75 35 3 262 (W) 4518 - Mostly Cloudy 21:10Z 78 34 8 267 (W) 3697 - Partly Cloudy 21:42Z 73 33 0 204 (SSW) 5147 - Partly Cloudy 22:14Z 70 33 9 83 (E) 2637 - Partly Cloudy 22:44Z 71 33 18 110 (ESE) 2605 - Partly Cloudy 23:18Z 68 34 18 113 (ESE) 2235 - Partly Cloudy 23:49Z 69 33 14 130 (SE) 2029 - Partly Cloudy 00:19Z 69 31 8 114 (ESE) 2953 - Partly Cloudy 00:49Z 70 31 13 143 (SE) 2167 - Partly Cloudy 01:21Z 68 30 7 159 (SSE) 2832 - Partly Cloudy 01:51Z 67 31 5 157 (SSE) 3007 - Partly Cloudy 02:22Z 66 31 2 59 (ENE) 3085 - Mostly Clear 03:26Z 66 31 1 122 (ESE) 3576 - Clouds 03:56Z 65 31 5 98 (E) 3707 - 04:27Z 66 30 8 109 (ESE) 3363 - 04:59Z 64 31 9 123 (ESE) 3189 - 05:29Z 66 28 10 177 (S) 2705 - 05:59Z 67 27 6 191 (S) 2107 - 06:30Z 66 27 7 180 (S) 1978 - 07:01Z 65 28 13 154 (SSE) 1810 - 07:32Z 63 30 14 148 (SSE) 1965 - 08:02Z 62 33 9 166 (SSE) 1790 - 08:32Z 63 32 11 183 (S) 1877 - 09:04Z 62 31 5 178 (S) 1986 - 09:37Z 62 31 8 235 (SW) 2279 - 10:09Z 62 31 5 194 (SSW) 2395 - 10:41Z 60 32 4 206 (SSW) 2203 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 01:45Z Doors Open, Fans On. 02:25Z Enclosure Open. 10:45 Telescope is closed.
