APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Thursday June 29, 2006 (MJD 53916) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Days: Dan Long Night: Elena Malanushenko Steph Snedden ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- A pretty frustrating night, weatherwise. We opened and closed a few times thanks to variable humidity. Some signal obtained on two plates, but neither could be declared done. Brian Yanny, plese check plate 2534 (another low-b plate, we presume). It probably isn't done, but if we're wrong and it is done, we need to replug right away, with plate 2253. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- There was one problem with the afternoon check and it involved the DA. The process on id3 which transfers frames from the pool to the unix side (the archiver) had stopped. A reboot of photo 1 fixed it. It should be noted that there was no evidence of a problem from either iccSoundOff or from the watcher. There are messages in the murmur log, but they are not being caught by the watcher. A PR was filed in hopes of rectifying this (watcher/7062). Spectro focus was checked but not changed, best focus about 11-12 C. See problems section for details. A spectrograph milestone of sorts was reached today, passing frame number 40000 (time for the 40000 frame periodic maintenance). 01:30Z Doors Open, Fans On. Night: ------ Threatening clouds kept us from opening at sunset. We kept ventilating the building. 03:30 (approx.) - We closed for high humidity. Fans off. 05:24Z - Humidity dropped enough and clouds cleared enough that we decided to open to get some signal on a high priority, partially done SEGUE faint plate. 05:25Z - Cart 5, plate 2547 - SEGUE faint Guide stars on goToField. Humidity starting to climb again. Dang. Finished two exposures, then had to close again. The plate is still not done, though we added an additional 2400 s to the total exposure time. Note that one of the guide stars wasn't well placed to show up in the guider SAO display. See the problems section. We used startMon -simple. 06:28Z - Closed for high humidity. Fans off. 08:35Z - Opened again. Fans on 08:59Z - Cartridge 9, plate 2534 - SEGUE bright Needed an FK5 (at the edge of fiber 10) to find the field. The first exposure of 20 minutes gave sos warnings of saturated fibers. At this point, we realized we very likely had another low-latitude plate, so we shortened the exposure times on the remaining exposures. We took a total exposure time of 3450 s under variably cloudy conditions. We will need Brian to look at this plate to see if it needs more signal (it probably does). endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6228 21:17Z 21:31Z 100 O -53.82 -50.27 38 ignore 6229 22:05Z 22:17Z 100 O -41.74 -38.65 35 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n):y QA Procedures Done (y/n):y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 40001, plate -9999 ------- 21:18 40001 0.0 bias ----- sequence 40002, plate 2547 ------- 21:37 40002 10.0 flat 21:39 40003 2.0 arc 21:56 40004 2.1 arc 21:58 40005 2.1 arc ----- sequence 40006, plate -9999 ------- 02:08 40006 0.0 bias 02:11 40007 0.0 bias ----- sequence 40008, plate 2547 ------- 05:31 40008 10.0 flat 05:34 40009 2.0 arc 05:57 40010 1200.1 target 06:21 40011 1200.1 target ----- sequence 40012, plate 2534 ------- 09:11 40012 10.0 flat 09:14 40013 2.0 arc 09:37 40014 1200.1 target 09:50 40015 600.1 target 10:01 40016 450.1 target 10:15 40017 600.1 target 10:27 40018 600.1 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 05:37Z 5 2547 213.81 0.0000 53.64 0.0005 62.54 -0.0141 1.000100 09:16Z 9 2534 -77.89 -0.0041 57.77 0.0007 117.90 -0.0081 1.000030 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 05:36Z 5 2547 1.00010 -988 402 50 214 53.6 11.4 15 129 - 1.6 09:16Z 9 2534 1.00003 -296 837 -75 -78 57.8 12.2 5 188 - 1.2 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 20:23Z 56 45 5 75 (ENE) 590 - Light Rain 20:55Z 53 47 12 64 (ENE) 557 - Sprinkles 21:30Z 57 46 11 71 (ENE) 564 - Partly Cloudy 22:00Z 59 43 7 80 (E) 366 - Partly Cloudy 22:31Z 63 40 8 66 (ENE) 309 - Partly Cloudy 23:04Z 60 37 0 250 (WSW) 355 - Mostly Cloudy 23:36Z 61 38 5 77 (ENE) 268 - Mostly Cloudy 00:08Z 62 35 2 83 (E) 338 - Partly Cloudy 00:40Z 62 36 1 266 (W) 304 - Partly Cloudy 01:13Z 61 37 0 106 (ESE) 349 - Mostly Cloudy 01:49Z 58 39 12 9 (N) 301 - " 02:19Z 58 37 5 353 (NNW) 272 - " 02:52Z 55 45 10 115 (ESE) 614 - " 03:24Z 53 47 8 97 (E) 733 - " 03:56Z 53 47 7 97 (E) 705 - " 04:28Z 53 46 12 130 (SE) 623 - " 05:00Z 53 46 16 149 (SSE) 582 - " 05:32Z 52 47 15 126 (SE) 594 - Partly Cloudy 06:03Z 52 47 13 131 (SE) 635 - " 06:34Z 51 48 12 119 (ESE) 682 - " 07:05Z 51 48 4 117 (ESE) 718 - " 07:35Z 52 46 4 140 (SE) 591 - " 08:05Z 53 45 2 148 (SSE) 529 - " 08:35Z 53 44 6 181 (S) 465 - " 09:05Z 53 44 2 185 (S) 440 - Mostly Cloudy 09:35Z 53 43 4 184 (S) 414 - " 10:07Z 52 45 6 189 (S) 412 - " 10:37Z 53 44 1 113 (ESE) 431 - " 11:08Z 54 42 2 184 (S) 487 - " ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 01:30Z Doors Open, Fans On. 03:30Z Doors closed, fans off. 05:25Z Opened enclosure.
