APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday May 30, 2007 (MJD 54251) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Audrey Simmons Dan Oravetz Brian Lee (UF) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- ET Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We had a great night tonight - no major problems. The skies were photometric for the first half of the night, and then cirrus clouds came in. We continued to have excellent seeing throughout the night. I had no problems with finding the fields. Some guide stars were found on goToField, and others needed an fk5 star to find guide stars. Something that I did different than last night, which might have helped out tonight - I used two -glfats on the goToField command instead of only one. This might have helped center the guider flat, thus helping the guide stars be found easier. Note that I had no problems with cartridge 7 or 8 (the two cartridges we had trouble with the previous nights). Rejoice! :) We took great exposures on: Cart 3, plate 8024 Cart 5, plate 8025 Cart 8, plate 8021 Cart 7, plate 8022 Cart 1, plate 8026 Cart 6, plate 8027 Cart 9, plate 8028 Cart 2, plate 8032 I did have some trouble with latching a couple of cartridges with the primary mirror latch button. Luckily, I eventually got them to latch by lowering and re-raising the cartridge a few times. Please see log for more detail. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Afternoon checkout went smoothly. 01:15Z - Started ventilation with doors and louvers open, fans on. Night: ------ Clear, photometric skies at sunset. 02:05Z - Opened enclosure. 03:04Z - Cart 3, plate 8024 mounted. fk5 star was used to find field. 50 min exposure taken. Seeing 1.2". 04:09Z - Mounted cart 5, plate 8025. GSFOGTF. 50 min exposure taken. Seeing 1.2". 05:15Z - Cart 8, plate 8021. Used fk5 star with small offsets. 25 min exposure. Seeing 1.1". Light cirrus clouds started coming in, which made the sky no longer photometric. 05:53Z - Cart 7, plate 8022. GSFOGTF. As a test, once the guide stars were centered, I slewed back to the fk5 field to see if the star was there. It was bright and centered in fiber 10. I have no idea what happened the previous nights, but everything seems to be working perfectly tonight. :) Took 35 minute exposure. Seeing 1.2". 06:45Z - Cart 1, plate 8026. fk5 star was used to find field. 50 min exposure. Seeing 1.3". Took 3 Tio lamp calibrations after exposure finished. 07:55Z - Cart 6, 8027. 50 min exposure. Seeing 1.0". During mounting this cartridge, the primary camera latches did not latch the first time I pressed the button. I tried lowering the cartridge back down and trying again. It latched the second time. 08:56Z - Cart 9, plate 8028. GSFOGTF. 50 min exposure. Seeing 1.0". 10:00Z - Cart 2, plate 8032. GSFOGTF. 50 min exposure. Seeing 1.1". When mounting this cartridge, I again had trouble latching the cartridge with the primary mirror latches. I lowered the cart and tried latching it three times before it finally worked. I did notice that the first two times, I stopped the elevator at values around 1100-1200. The third time when it worked, I stopped it at around 1300. Im not sure what is going on, but it might want to get looked at. 11:00Z - Closed enclosure, doors closed, fans off. 11:13Z - endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 45095, plate -9999 ------- 00:13 45095 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:04Z 3 8024 285.39 -0.0009 54.66 0.0060 121.40 -0.0051 1.000240 04:11Z 5 8025 -48.16 -0.0019 49.65 0.0036 141.09 -0.0349 1.000160 05:16Z 8 8021 76.97 -0.0003 73.57 0.0075 247.68 0.0077 1.000110 05:58Z 7 8022 118.43 0.0034 76.25 0.0079 -70.70 0.0046 1.000210 06:46Z 1 8026 221.65 0.0017 54.52 0.0056 70.47 -0.0187 1.000250 07:55Z 6 8027 129.53 0.0055 70.71 0.0062 -63.37 0.0022 1.000140 08:56Z 9 8028 154.82 0.0025 75.94 0.0062 -30.60 0.0190 1.000080 10:02Z 2 8032 77.12 0.0027 53.66 0.0076 240.02 0.0172 1.000160 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:04Z 3 8024 1.00024 -2370 -936 -140 285 54.7 12.6 6 186 - 1.2 04:11Z 5 8025 1.00016 -1580 -251 -125 -48 49.7 13.2 12 191 - 1.2 05:16Z 8 8021 1.00011 -1086 112 -115 77 73.6 13.9 13 186 - 1.1 06:01Z 7 8022 1.00021 -2074 -720 -125 119 76.8 13.6 15 214 - 1.2 06:46Z 1 8026 1.00025 -2469 -1007 -130 222 54.5 14.0 13 206 - 1.3 07:55Z 6 8027 1.00014 -1383 -109 -95 130 70.7 13.9 11 218 - 1.0 08:56Z 9 8028 1.00008 -790 374 -95 155 75.9 12.6 13 221 - 1.0 10:02Z 2 8032 1.00016 -1580 -188 -50 77 53.7 12.4 10 210 - 1.1 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:16Z 65 17 14 265 (W) 744 - Clear 23:46Z 62 14 4 262 (W) 811 - " 00:17Z 63 17 8 274 (W) 764 - " 00:47Z 63 17 14 268 (W) 746 - " 01:17Z 61 17 7 267 (W) 802 - " 01:48Z 58 19 10 227 (SW) 833 - " 02:18Z 56 17 6 225 (SW) 734 - " 02:49Z 57 16 8 196 (SSW) 813 - " 03:21Z 57 17 9 184 (S) 748 - " 03:53Z 57 17 12 198 (SSW) 684 - " 04:25Z 55 16 13 195 (SSW) 853 - " 04:56Z 57 15 12 193 (SSW) 812 - " 05:26Z 56 15 6 206 (SSW) 823 - Cirrus clouds 05:58Z 55 15 9 203 (SSW) 889 - " 06:28Z 57 10 12 213 (SSW) 807 - " 06:59Z 57 12 13 214 (SW) 774 - " 07:29Z 57 12 12 209 (SSW) 755 - " 07:59Z 57 13 13 215 (SW) 755 - " 08:30Z 56 13 12 221 (SW) 808 - " 09:00Z 55 14 9 202 (SSW) 728 - " 09:32Z 54 15 10 229 (SW) 724 - " 10:02Z 54 15 9 210 (SSW) 735 - " 10:32Z 53 15 9 204 (SSW) 772 - " 11:03Z 53 16 9 223 (SW) 827 - " ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 01:15Z - Began ventilation.
