APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday October 3, 2007 (MJD 54377) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Audrey Simmons (swing) Elena Malanushenko (observer) Viktor Malanushenko (observer) Steph Snedden (PN & support) Dan Long (support by phone) Jennie Baerny (UW) Mark Klaene (muscles) Howard Brewington (muscles) Jon Brinkmann (muscles) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- SEGUE and Supernova Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Sp1 blue camera focus needs to be adgusted, but collimator ring could be turned to one direction and could not turn back to right position. See afternoon section in log for problem with sp1 blue collimator ring. Clear sky on sunset, then overcast and nearby radar return; by the time the sky is cleared the humidity rised up to limit and it continue until morning twilight. We have obtained significant S/N=13.5 on segue plate 2308, cartridge 5. Also we observed SN stripe 82,S from lam=113 to lam=123 including ramps. At 06:14Z we have got critical alert "no_responce im". We have found out red light "+10 CCD" on imager front power supply block, the board "to array PH1". We replaced the board with spare, re-set the amplifier voltages, and it is ok now. We are doing test bias and everything looks normal. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- The blue collimators were planned to be adjusted today. The spectrograph 2 blue camera is now in focus, but unfortunatly the spectrograph 1 blue collimator locking ring was too tight to adjust, even with the beastly strength of Mark, Jon, Howard, and Viktor. Maybe the aluminum lining underneath is the perpetrator? Note that during the struggle, the collimator moved even more out of focus (~20+ degrees). I ask that the engineering crew take a look at it and try to move the ring to 350 degrees. Thank you. Because of this misfortune, the spectroscopic observations at the beginning of the night will probably be bad. I tried to contact Brian and Connie for their advice, but was unable to get ahold of them before the beginning of the night. 00:10Z - Started ventilation with doors and louvers open, fans on. We are doing test bias and everything looks normal. We called to Steph and Dan Long for help. See problem section for detailes. During the check of new block we did bias, but it did not work and requested to reset the DA and set the amplifier voltages properly, and it quit after that. This bias exposure has not been created. Next bias was good. See the detailes in problem section. By the time the clouds are not so strong and safe to open, the humidity rised up to limit and continue until time to close. 11:20Z endNight is completed. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7017 21:27Z 21:43Z 100 O 43.12 47.25 42 ignore 7018 03:01Z 04:02Z 82 S 110.77 125.87 115 science 7019 04:22Z 04:54Z 100 O 147.20 155.26 48 bias no exposure 7020 7021 07:42Z 08:06Z 100 O -162.58 -156.68 52 engineering ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7018 8 4 0 0.000 0.000 0.000 0.000 -0.00000 0 0 7018 59 4 82 4.900 0.168 6.300 0.128 -0.01049 208 54 ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7018 35 1 54 332 44 -1.372 0.152 2.775 0.301 -0.00933 7018 35 1 54 332 47 -1.045 0.088 3.071 0.301 -0.01032 7018 35 1 54 332 33 -0.453 0.179 3.163 0.336 -0.01064 7018 35 1 54 332 36 0.038 0.188 3.380 0.219 -0.01136 7018 35 1 54 332 20 0.560 0.145 3.492 0.353 -0.01174 7018 70 1 54 332 49 -0.715 0.152 1.410 0.191 -0.00474 7018 70 1 54 332 55 -0.428 0.133 1.597 0.160 -0.00537 7018 70 1 54 332 65 0.087 0.159 1.952 0.200 -0.00656 7018 70 1 54 332 66 0.514 0.152 2.161 0.248 -0.00726 7018 70 1 54 332 62 0.852 0.160 2.251 0.224 -0.00757 ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): Yes QA Procedures Done (y/n): Yes UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 46490, plate -9999 ------- 21:27 46490 0.0 bias ----- sequence 46491, plate 2805 ------- 21:57 46491 10.0 flat 21:59 46492 2.0 arc 22:07 46493 3.0 arc 22:09 46494 3.0 arc 22:58 46495 3.0 arc 23:00 46496 3.0 arc ----- sequence 46497, plate -9999 ------- 00:40 46497 0.0 bias 00:49 46498 0.0 bias ----- sequence 46499, plate 2308 ------- 01:52 46499 10.0 flat 01:54 46500 2.0 arc 02:13 46501 901.0 target 5.9 3.4 7.3 4.1 02:33 46502 901.0 target 7.6 3.4 8.0 5.4 02:36 46503 10.0 flat 02:38 46504 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:58Z 5 2308 60.38 0.0021 46.89 0.0049 227.29 0.0102 1.000450 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:58Z 5 2308 1.00045 -4444 -2687 -200 60 46.9 14.1 14 221 --- 1.4" ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 21:06Z 63 42 5 232 (SW) 554 - 21:37Z 64 44 13 272 (W) 570 - 22:09Z 64 42 7 258 (WSW) 460 - 22:39Z 61 41 11 266 (W) 518 - 23:09Z 61 40 10 263 (W) 597 - 23:41Z 61 41 8 249 (WSW) 634 - 00:14Z 60 41 10 238 (WSW) 659 - 00:45Z 57 40 10 246 (WSW) 679 - 01:15Z 56 41 10 223 (SW) 777 - 02:03Z 57 42 6 249 (WSW) 810 - 02:35Z 57 42 12 204 (SSW) 693 - 03:06Z 56 44 12 219 (SW) 604 - 03:38Z 56 44 14 214 (SW) 638 - 04:11Z 57 44 12 236 (SW) 578 - 04:43Z 56 44 11 244 (WSW) 589 - 05:16Z 56 45 14 225 (SW) 656 - 05:48Z 55 45 13 260 (W) 575 - 06:20Z 55 46 13 245 (WSW) 561 - 06:52Z 55 46 10 258 (WSW) 568 - 07:24Z 54 46 15 235 (SW) 568 - 07:57Z 53 47 10 226 (SW) 578 - 08:29Z 51 47 6 259 (W) 640 - 09:01Z 51 48 10 245 (WSW) 675 - 09:33Z 51 47 10 269 (W) 588 - 10:05Z 52 45 10 267 (W) 615 - 10:37Z 51 46 7 278 (W) 579 - 11:10Z 52 46 8 267 (W) 573 - 11:42Z 52 45 12 286 (WNW) 511 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 00:10Z - Started ventilation with doors and louvers open, fans on. 01:15Z - Opened enclosure. 04:15Z - closed enclosure. 08:06Z - doors and louvers are closed, fans are off No interlocks bypassed.
