Useful signal obtained on three plates, but no plates finished. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- On the first bias of the afternoon, we got an error message about an ongoing exposure on sp1. Sure enough, when we went to check the mechanicals status at the telescope, both sp1 and sp2 said they were doing a 1200s exposure. That is the exposure time of the last exposure we took last night, which we aborted because of clouds and high wind. Apparently, the abort did not complete properly. A power-cycle of the mechanicals for both spectrographs fixed the problem. Recall that last night the DIMM computer went down with an "unknown hard error". Today, we tried to reboot the computer and got a boot error. It looks like the disk may be bad. Jon was notified. A PR was filed. The rest of afternoon checkout was uneventful. All systems ready by sunset. Night: ----- 01:20Z - Cartridge 9, plate 2944 - SEGUE faint Found an FK5 in the fiber during bright twilight with last night's offsets. This plate only needs one or two more exposures to be declared done. We took six 1500s exposures and one 1200s exposure. Seeing started off poor, but improved as we went on. 05:35Z - Cartridge 3, plate 2877 - SEGUE faint GSOGTF Seeing was worse (lower altitide and east wind is why). This, combined with Moon prevented us from getting (S/N)^2 > 2. After two bad exposures, we decided to try a SEGUE bright plate. 07:14Z - Cartridge 7, plate 2893 - SEGUE bright GSOGTF We fought poor seeing and Moon. Some of these exposures will be useful, but perhaps not all. B1 consitently read lower (< 2), and this plate is not done. However, with b2 = 10.2, this plate is one-third the way to being done if we use the criterion of (S/N)^2 > 30 in one of the b cameras. Did three 1500s exposures, two 1800 s exposures and one 1200s exposure. 10:48Z - Cartridge 6, plate 2808 - SEGUE bright GSOGTF We also had to fight Moon with this plate. We have useable signal in b1, but not b2. So, this plate will also probably need the (S/N)^2 > 30 criterion.
