APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Thursday March 19, 2009 (MJD 54910) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Alaina Shelden Kaike Pan Visitors: Michael Strauss and his PU group. ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- The first half of the night is mostly cloudy, then partly cloudy. The first 0.5 hour and the last hour were lost to clouds. We finished plates: 3286, 3243, 3289. Problem: There is a problem in guider communication (?). See problem section for more detail. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: -------- Auto CleanupMurmur failed this noon. Maybe something related to Connie's usage of Da. I resarted servers and stop and start murmur servers, then cleanup Murmur ran okay. All systems were checked and working properly. The best focus of spectrographs was set for about 9 C. 00:20Z started ventilation, and mounted cartridge 6. Night: ----- 01:20Z enclosure off. 01:50Z cart 6, plate 3286. Applied last night's offset and found stars. We had clouds and east wind (seiing at 2.4"), so efficiency is at 25-35%. Thefirst exposure has S/N^2 of 1.3 to 2.2. Declared bad. We tried to do focus loop three times during the first plate, the action never finished. After two or three measurements, it stoped with a error message: expected guider frame never arrive. We had to manuaklly adjust the focus. The plate is done with signals from the previous night. --------------------------------------------------- MJD b1 r1 b2 r2 Texp Sum --------------------------------------------------- 54909 2.8 1.5 3.4 2.3 1800.0 10.0 54909 4.4 2.7 6.1 4.7 1800.0 17.9 54909 9.2 5.2 11.3 8.9 1800.0 34.6 54909 7.9 5.8 9.7 8.4 1800.0 31.8 54909 6.7 4.9 8.9 7.6 1800.0 28.1 54910 3.8 2.7 4.7 3.1 1800.0 14.3 54910 1.3 1.2 2.1 2.2 1800.0 6.8 54910 5.3 4.3 7.2 5.8 1800.0 22.6 54910 8.3 6.5 11.4 9.6 1801.0 35.8 --------------------------------------------------- Total when ALL b,r values > 2.0: 45.6 32.1 59.3 48.1 12601.0 --> 185.1 (limit=156.5) --------------------------------------------------- 05:45Z cart 2, plate 3243.
