APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday December 22, 2009 (MJD 55188) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Alaina Shelden Howard Brewington Kaike Pan (afternoon) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- First 4.3 hours are MARVELS, then BOSS Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- The night was lost to bad weather. According to Frank, the ThAr lamp has failed and needs to be replaced; see log. Cleared snow from walks. Spectro dewar is low. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- All actors and systems were checked and confirmed working properly. Boss spectrograph collimations were checked with cartridge 13. High humidity prevents us from afternoon ventilation. 22:50Z Marvels ThAr lamps are turned on. After 40 min, a TIO-Thar-TIO sequence was taken. The count for TIO is about 47.2 K, 280 for THAR. The number for TIO is higher than those from last run (43 K). But tonight's count for THAR is lower than last run's, 320. ThAr lamps are on for only 40 min before we took the sequence, this may explain lower number for THAR. We will keep eyes on it. Night: ------ 07:00Z Nathan ask that we take some test ThAr exposures because of low counts and temperature alarms. Later, Franks decided that this lamp needs to be replaced. The instructions are in the operations.pdf file in the MARVELS documentation directory on the trac system. Nathan wants the engCrew to please replace the lamp. 11:45Z endNight rejoiced ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:05Z 31 24 23 200 (SSW) 1561 - 22:38Z 31 23 29 235 (SW) 1961 - 23:10Z 30 23 25 231 (SW) 2400 - 23:42Z 31 23 25 216 (SW) 4023 - 00:14Z 29 21 28 210 (SSW) 8875 - 00:46Z 29 21 28 217 (SW) 9210 - 01:18Z 30 21 37 217 (SW) 4877 - 01:50Z 29 21 36 220 (SW) 4654 - 02:23Z 29 22 23 203 (SSW) 3610 - 02:55Z 28 22 33 229 (SW) 2459 - 03:27Z 27 22 36 211 (SSW) 1960 - 03:59Z 27 23 34 216 (SW) 1628 - 04:31Z 27 24 37 221 (SW) 1426 - 05:03Z 27 24 34 239 (WSW) 1317 - 05:35Z 26 25 30 245 (WSW) 1154 - 06:07Z 26 26 24 239 (WSW) 1117 - 06:40Z 25 25 33 226 (SW) 1075 - 07:12Z 25 25 26 256 (WSW) 10865 - 07:44Z 26 26 27 248 (WSW) 7925 - 08:16Z 25 25 26 253 (WSW) 3569 - 08:48Z 25 25 27 249 (WSW) 716 - 09:20Z 25 25 32 246 (WSW) 452 - 09:52Z 25 25 34 239 (WSW) 320 - 10:25Z 25 25 29 235 (SW) 288 - 10:57Z 26 25 25 267 (W) 69 - 11:29Z 26 25 25 259 (W) 60 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Never opened No interlocks bypassed.
