During the afternoon checkout, we had difficulty setting B1 focus ring (see log body for detail). Sky was clear for most of the night with some thin clouds after 3:00Z; seeing was variable. Tonight, we did MARVELS carts 4, 5, 6, and 9; all required extra pressure with the lift to latch, i.e., 1250+ The BOSS carts did as well. The first two MARVELS fields were lost to software/hardware problems: see log. We could not find the guide stars for Cart 17. With Cart 16, we could move the scope in alt axis; see log. Collimations were checked on cart 16. I tried to adjust B1 focus ring, and had difficulty to set it. My first two sets hartmann (124011-14) asked for +7.5 degrees on B1 focus ring movement. I moved it by +4 degree, then took another set hartmann (124015-16) that asked for 7.7 degree B1 movement, then I moved another +2 degrees, new hartmann (124017-18), still asked for +7.7 degree movement. Then I moved it back (-6 degree), new hartmann (124019-20) asked for +11.2 degree (this time, it did what it suppose to do). Moved it up by + 5 degrees, new hartmann (124021) asked for -6 degrees movement. -3 degree was excuted and new hartmann (124023-24) said that B1 ring needs +3.7 degree movement. Currently, the B1 focus ring is set at 108 degree. Note: For each movement, 100 + degrees was backup before approaching its final position. Jon rebooted IDL license server. 22:10Z started ventilation. 22:40Z marvels calibs lamps on. Night: ------ 00:45Z Cart 01, 3519-B, K14, MARVELS. 00:50Z We could not slew to field because the semafore was owned by someone although it was not since we could grab it from any MCP session. Jon recommended that we do a "hub startNubs tcc25m", which fix the problem. 01:00Z Next, the guider flat exposure hung; it counted up to the max exposure time but did not reset. So, we restart the guider. 01:13Z Next, as we started the first exposure, we got a MARVELS ALARM, viz., "MARVELS ALARM, failed connecting socket SI-CCD server ***" We contacted Nathan by cel phone since the phone lines to the site were down. Yet, the cel phone only worked in the ops building, so we put Nathan on speaker with a site phone via Alaina's cel phone while we followed his instructions in the MARVELS_INST room. Unfortunately, there is no phone in the MARVELS_INST room, so we had to run back and forth from the plug_lab to the marvels_inst room to make tests for Nathan. WE REALLY NEED A PHONE IN THE MARVELS_INST ROOM!! 02:28Z Nathan contacted Frank after we had no luck with reboots, but Frank could not be reached. After more tests and tries, we were finally able to take an exposure at the Windows machine in the MARVELS_INST room. We used the instructions from MARVELS Instrument FAQ web page. We had alt fiducial error on the way to the field. We forced a fiducial and tried to move the scope, but the alt axis aborted. We could not clear the axis. We checked for a slip, but there was not one. We rebooted the MCP, but that did not help. We called Dan, he asked that we power cycle the MCP, which dd not help either. We tried doing a hub startNubs for the mcp and tcc25m but no joy. Since we could move the scope with the mcpMenu, we decided to close. While closing, we discovered that the mcp showed the scope at an alt of 73 degrees; however, the scope was actually at about 90 degrees. We hope this info helps.
