APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday August 28, 2002 (MJD 52515) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Steph Snedden Atsuko Nitta ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Shake night #3. o Obtain Jim's imager calibration data. o Get twilight flats for the imager o On-sky operation of both the imager and the spectro to make sure we can do routine observations. Astronietric scans will be nice. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We got Jim's imager calibration data using his new LED calibrator. The data tapes will be shipped to Jim (not to FNAL) as instructed. Nothing else done due to poor weather. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon checkout went fine. JB told us that last night's spectro guider problem was due to yet another failed paralan. I think "paralan" should become a new English word to describe flaky, unreliable, annoying character. As an example, "After endNight cored dumped three times, he shouted what a paralan it is." or "The postal service in Mayhill is so very paralan that we routinely get our neighbors delivering our mail which they found in their mailboxes". 06:30Z We saw the lightening has moved away enough that we can roll out the imager to place the LED illuminator on. This time we used Steph's personal power strip with a toggle switch which illuminates when there is power. This way, we KNOW there is power coming from the UPS to the LEDs. :) We changed the imager dewar at the same time we put the illuminator on since the dewar only bnad 20lbs left after the last fill. Since the tapes with Jim's calibration data goes to Princeton instead of FNAL, we ran endNight with no ship tape option. This will avoid having email sent out to Madonna to ship tapes to FNAL. INstead, we sent out an email to Madonna and Jurek that the tapes need to go to Jim. endNight completed succesfully. BTW, I think the lower enclosure smells like an animal (or maybe it is the smell of gzillion moths). The smell is stronger today definitely. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3308 23:48Z 00:06Z 100 O 43.31 47.74 44 ignore 3309 07:04Z 08:36Z 100 O 152.51 -184.43 168 bias ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 16054, plate -9999 ------- 23:51 16054 0.0 bias ----- sequence 16056, plate 687 ------- 00:24 16056 10.0 flat 00:26 16057 2.0 arc ----- sequence 16058, plate -9999 ------- 00:35 16058 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes to Jim: JL5460-5465, 5450 Stays: JL5466-5471, 5451 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:11Z 60 44 9 106 (ESE) -9999 - 23:43Z 63 47 13 122 (ESE) -9999 - 00:39Z 62 46 20 113 (ESE) -9999 - 01:12Z 61 45 19 112 (ESE) -9999 - 01:44Z 61 45 17 143 (SE) -9999 - 02:16Z 60 46 15 115 (ESE) -9999 - 02:48Z 59 40 16 106 (ESE) -9999 - 03:21Z 59 39 10 107 (ESE) -9999 - 03:53Z 58 39 10 114 (ESE) -9999 - 04:25Z 59 39 12 156 (SSE) -9999 - 04:57Z 61 38 13 184 (S) -9999 - 05:29Z 61 37 12 177 (S) -9999 - 06:02Z 56 42 12 324 (NW) -9999 - 06:34Z 53 44 15 17 (NNE) -9999 - 07:10Z 55 43 11 55 (NE) -9999 - 07:42Z 57 40 5 85 (E) -9999 - 08:15Z 57 41 13 85 (E) -9999 - 08:47Z 56 41 9 87 (E) -9999 - 09:15Z 54 43 13 80 (E) -9999 - 09:47Z 54 43 20 69 (ENE) -9999 - 10:19Z 52 44 26 72 (ENE) -9999 - 10:52Z 50 45 19 72 (ENE) -9999 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Teelscope @ stow (121, 30, 0) with cartridge 6 and autfo fill system connected.
