APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday September 14, 2002 (MJD 52532) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Days: Jurek Krzesinski Night: Eric Neilsen Steph Snedden ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science, following the usual strategies. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- High winds. High humidity. One spectro exposure under bad seeing with unusable S/N. Not a good night at all. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon checkout went without problems. Rain in the area and high winds at sunset. Shortly after sunset, conditions improved enough for us to open. We were on the sky at 02:00Z for spectroscopy. 02:28Z Cartridge 5, plate 1026 science exposures started under bad seeing. Not surprising, since the winds were high and out of the east. The first science exposure (20 minutes long) did not reach (S/N)^2 = 2 in b1. 03:31Z Winds over closure limit. We closed, aborting the second science exposure. The humidity rose over the closure limit about a half hour later. Too bad. It's pretty clear out. And that was it. The humidity and winds stayed high for the rest of the night. And now a translation of the above in Redneck: Rain in th' area an' high winds at sunset. Sho'tly af'er sunset, corndishuns improved inough fo' us t'open, as enny fool kin plainly see. We were on th' sky at 02:00Z fo' speckroscopy. 02:28Z Cartridge 5, plate 1026 science exposures started unner bad seein'. Not surprisin', on account o' th' winds were high an' outta th' east. Th' fust science exposure (20 minutes long) did not retch (S/N)^2 = 2 in b1. 03:31Z Winds on over closure limit. We closed, abo'tin' th' second science exposure. Th' hoomidity rose on over th' closure limit about a ha'f hour later. Too bad, cuss it all t' tarnation. It's purdy clear out. An' thet was it. Th' hoomidity an' winds stayed high fo' th' ress of th' night. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 16383, plate -9999 ------- 00:21 16383 0.0 bias ----- sequence 16384, plate 1026 ------- 02:23 16384 10.0 flat 02:26 16385 2.0 arc 02:49 16386 1201.0 target 03:19 16387 1495.0 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:21Z 5 1026 52.54 0.0015 43.31 -0.0038 221.80 -0.0135 0.999900 03:11Z 5 1026 37.51 0.0015 50.90 -0.0038 210.73 -0.0135 0.999840 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:21Z 5 1026 0.99990 986 1872 -150 53 43.3 8.5 21 65 - 2.7 03:11Z 5 1026 0.99984 1579 2336 -150 38 50.9 8.4 14 68 - 4.3 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 00:15Z 49 40 17 68 (ENE) 158 - 00:45Z 48 40 16 48 (NE) 155 - 01:16Z 47 40 19 75 (ENE) 127 - 01:48Z 47 39 24 72 (ENE) 124 - 02:20Z 47 39 25 60 (ENE) 109 - 02:51Z 47 39 29 73 (ENE) 81 - 03:24Z 47 40 23 61 (ENE) 89 - 03:56Z 46 41 16 70 (ENE) 76 - 04:28Z 45 41 24 57 (ENE) 84 - 05:01Z 45 41 25 70 (ENE) 106 - 05:33Z 44 41 22 66 (ENE) 75 - 06:05Z 44 41 34 64 (ENE) 91 - 06:38Z 44 41 29 72 (ENE) 76 - 07:10Z 43 39 35 69 (ENE) 94 - 07:43Z 43 39 25 75 (ENE) 108 - 08:15Z 42 40 18 58 (ENE) 81 - 08:47Z 43 41 25 71 (ENE) 80 - 09:19Z 43 41 25 65 (ENE) 75 - 09:52Z 44 41 21 69 (ENE) 84 - 10:22Z 44 42 28 66 (ENE) 76 - 10:52Z 44 41 19 67 (ENE) 82 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 01:26Z Opened. 03:31Z Closed because of high wind. 11:12Z Shut down amps.
