APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday December 27, 2002 (MJD 52636) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Steph Snedden Night: Dan Long Jurek Krzesinski Howard Brewington ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Despite a four hour delay at the start of the night due to blowing snow, we finished 5 plates ( 8 1060, 9 939, 3 967, 5 511, 7 999 ). There was some problem with the tape ship message. EndNight rejoiced but the tape ship message was returned to Jurek as undeliverable. See the tape section for message details. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Open at 05:00Z after 4 hour delay due to blowing snow. Opened to clear skies. The decision was made to proceed with spectroscopy as there would be insufficient time for even the minimal Apache Wheel before the moon came up. 05:15Z Cartridge 8 1060 Guidestars on the slew. Seeing a little over 2 arcseconds. Done in three exposures. 04:10Z Cartridge 9 939 Guidestars on slew. Seeing improving somewhat to 1.7 arcseconds. Still clear. Took additional exposure since next available plate was still more than 45 minutes from the start of its observing window. Done in three exposures, but took fourth anyway to fill the time before the next plate. 08:45Z Cartridge 3 967 Guidestars on slew. Thumbwheel on lift pendant lost the spring return in the down position while mounting this cartridge. There is still spring return from upward move. PR filed. Done in three exposures 10:30Z Cartridge 5 511 No guidestars on slew. Needed fk5 to center up. Was 15 arcseconds off in Dec. Done in three exposures. 11:50Z Cartridge 7 999 Guidestars on slew. Impressive seeing. Subarcsecond on the guider. Decidedly done in three exposures. Manipulator seems particularly prone to vertical oscillation when lowering a cartridge when close to fully extended ( reaching about as far east as it can from a given position ), and at the station nearest the door to the support building. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 17570, plate -9999 ------- 23:40 17570 0.0 bias 23:55 17571 0.0 bias ----- sequence 17572, plate 1060 ------- 21.5 16.1 23.3 16.5 05:34 17572 10.0 flat 05:36 17573 2.0 arc 05:59 17574 1200.1 target 06:17 17575 900.1 target 06:44 17576 900.1 target 06:52 17577 240.0 smear 06:55 17578 10.0 flat 06:57 17579 2.0 arc ----- sequence 17580, plate 939 ------- 28.8 20.6 28.3 18.3 07:15 17580 10.0 flat 07:17 17581 2.0 arc 07:37 17582 900.1 target 07:53 17583 720.1 target 08:08 17584 720.1 target 08:23 17585 720.1 target 08:31 17586 240.0 smear 08:34 17587 10.0 flat 08:37 17588 2.0 arc ----- sequence 17589, plate 967 ------- 36.2 14.2 36.9 21.0 08:50 17589 10.0 flat 08:52 17590 2.0 arc 09:13 17591 900.1 target 09:41 17592 1500.1 target 10:14 17593 1800.1 target 10:22 17594 240.0 smear ----- sequence 17595, plate 511 ------- 20.6 14.9 19.0 15.4 10:39 17595 10.0 flat 10:41 17596 2.0 arc 11:01 17597 900.1 target 11:18 17598 900.1 target 11:36 17599 900.1 target 11:44 17600 240.0 smear ----- sequence 17601, plate 999 ------- 20.5 17.7 20.7 18.4 11:57 17601 10.0 flat 11:59 17602 2.0 arc 12:18 17603 900.1 target 12:36 17604 900.1 target 12:51 17605 720.1 target 12:59 17606 240.0 smear 13:02 17607 10.0 flat 13:04 17608 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 05:36Z 8 1060 97.17 0.0022 52.60 0.0007 253.55 -0.0144 1.000330 07:26Z 9 939 116.14 0.0000 57.56 0.0006 -88.34 -0.0016 1.000150 09:01Z 3 967 129.91 0.0003 50.14 0.0011 -84.11 -0.0085 1.000080 10:48Z 5 511 31.82 0.0028 55.33 0.0034 206.25 -0.0131 1.000140 12:16Z 7 999 -34.52 0.0024 59.58 0.0052 151.26 -0.0070 1.000100 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL5833 Stays: JL5840 endNight rejoiced at 13:50Z.
