APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Monday February 10, 2003 (MJD 52681) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Howard Brewington Night: Jurek Krzesinski Atsuko Kleinman Eric Neilsen via phone - most of the night. ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Shakeup/Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We shaked: - Scot's newQAPlate and QATopTen commands, - logTool: quality lines are indeed in spectro section, - verified changes in new procedures (v1_63)- they are there and work, - done Eric's Hartmann focus tests, as well as we got new Jim's guiding code working (more or less). Science: At the and of the night it become photometric, so we've done some imaging (run 3664, 30 S good from lambda 15.7 - 30.5 and 37.2 - 41.5). Problems: We had to bypas building to move it over the tlescope. We couldn't find the reason it didn't want to move. The bypass key was left in the socket. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Swing shift: During day shift, I checked the focus of the spectrographs; all four cameras were reported by IDL as in-focus with a Rot-position of 30 degrees. So, I changed the Rot-position to 180 degrees, and IDL reported a .1-pix increase on b1 (see IDL results in problems section). I did not have time for additional tests, and I did not make any adjustments to the focus settings. At the time of these focus procedures, ambient temp= 3.45C. The final col-motor numbers (A to C) were: sp1=182, 182, -1021 ; sp2=1076, 1077, 1076. Night shift: Eric's request: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 00:40Z Cart 1 plt 1254 mounted. PR 3618 Provide Hartmann focus code for the spectrographs Due to the weather we didn't finish all Eric's Hartmann focus tests, but here is what we menaged to do: 01:57Z Telescope is focused. Best focus is 0 according to the focus sweep. We are getting focus readings from 3, 4 guide stars. The seeing is about 1.4-2.3". The focus sweep does not have a very strong min., but rather flat fat bottom. We called Eric as requested to test the hartmannFocus code. The sky is covered with thin cirrus and we have moon. Eric improves the code and we test them as he works on it. Here are some output of hartmannFocus code. 02:45Z Resourced hartmann code, checked centering.
