APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday March 21, 2003 (MJD 52720) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Mike Harvanek Steph Snedden ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Shake then science. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Never opened due to high humidity. All indoor shake items were tested. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- When Steph started her SOP session this afternoon, it died with a memory fault. The second attempt succeeded. Details are in the Problems section. Also during afternoon checkout, we found the guider images were not updating. Steph rebooted the guider Mac and all was well. Perhaps this problem was due to the nearby lightning strike today. Clouds, high humidity, fog and snow flurries prevented us from opening and so we continued with indoor shake items: SOP - quickDisplayAll Eric found the bug in SOP's new quickDisplayAll that we uncovered last night. We sourced his fix and tried it. We now see all 4 spectro CCDs instead of just r1 & r2. However, we still have a question about the -debias option (which IS a feature that we want). We expect to see both positive and negative ADUs in the saoMon display after the overscan subtraction, but we do not. We see small values, but nothing below zero. We believe we are losing information about the shot noise. The status of this PR is unchanged. changeLog - changes to the Procedures document All changes mentioned in the change log were verified to be present in the procedures document. We tested the TPM alarms again tonight by removing a dewar from the scale. The test failed and PR 4494 remains assigned. Details can be found in the Problems section. We also tested if endNight runs when double quotes are used in the comments section of an imaging run. It passed and PR 1710 was closed. IOP v3_113_0 and watcher v2_22_0 were declared current. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3800 11:18Z 11:36Z 100 O 58.42 62.75 43 science --> ignore (called science for testing purposes) ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): n UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 02:32 19940 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: none Stays: none ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 02:04Z 28 24 12 16 (NNE) 461 - pcl 02:36Z 28 24 10 24 (NNE) 525 - " 03:08Z 27 26 3 359 (NNW) 523 - " 03:38Z 28 25 13 2 (N) 406 - " 04:09Z 28 25 7 7 (N) 410 - " 04:39Z 28 26 10 8 (N) 444 - " 05:09Z 27 25 9 19 (NNE) 375 - " 05:39Z 28 26 6 3 (N) 307 - " 06:09Z 28 25 11 21 (NNE) 327 - " 06:39Z 28 26 14 13 (NNE) 308 - " 07:10Z 28 26 8 353 (NNW) 312 - " 07:40Z 28 26 13 2 (N) 249 - " 08:10Z 28 26 5 3 (N) 279 - " 08:40Z 28 26 10 2 (N) 291 - " 09:10Z 27 26 14 1 (N) 244 - " 09:40Z 28 25 14 7 (N) 216 - " 10:11Z 28 25 7 1 (N) 228 - " 10:41Z 28 25 8 8 (N) 298 - " 11:11Z 27 25 5 32 (NNE) 273 - " 11:41Z 27 24 15 31 (NNE) 299 - " 12:11Z 27 23 18 20 (NNE) 272 - " 12:42Z 28 22 17 21 (NNE) 249 - " High humidity all night. The second attempt succeeded. Here is what happened: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If this is a new sop session, and you are doing routine observations Please initialize the spectrographs with sp1> initNight sp1> goStare 0 -init -bias !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The guider will now try to centroid using the old centroiding code. /p/astroda/v14_47/bin/dscRun[429]: 18920 Memory fault(coredump) TPM alarm test: --------------- Tonight, we tried the TPM test again. We took the spectro dewar off the scale and waited a half-hour to see if watcher and dumpTPMError caught the error. Neither did. We then forced an update, using updateTPMError. This time, IOP caught the error, but the watcher never did. Here is the IOP output: Originally we had (after waiting 1/2 hour with the dewar off the scale): im> dumpTPMError Contents of TPM Data and Error Arrays INDEX ERROR DATA timeStamp 1048291745 1048291745 serialNum 0 0 arrayName tpmError tpmData 0 Then we forced an update (a few times, actually): im> getclock 1048318239 im> updateTPMError 0 im> dumpTPMError Contents of TPM Data and Error Arrays INDEX ERROR DATA arrayName tpmError tpmData DEWAR MAJOR Spectro Dewar Scale Communications Fault serialNum 3 3 timeStamp 1048318241 1048318241 But no watcher error. Hope this helps in troubleshooting.
