APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Thursday February 19, 2004 (MJD 53055) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Dan Long Night: Steph Snedden Mike Harvanek ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Four plates finished (1737, 1744, 1606, 1443) and good data obtained for another (1461). 30 minutes of science lost due to a spectro recollimation needed during the middle of the night. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Normal afternoon check. Spectrograph focus adjusted slightly (sp1: -3500, sp2: -1000) Too dusty to open enclosure for ventilation. Pressurization remains on in enclosure. Night: ------ High dust counts delayed opening until around 0300Z. Plate 1737 (cartridge 5): Badly out of focus guide stars on the gotoField. An FK5 was used to focus. We got 2 good exposures before the clouds rolled in. A third exposure was aborted. We waited for the clouds to thin and were able to get another good exposure and finish this plate (3600 sec total). Plate 1744 (cartridge 7): Guide stars on the gotoField. This plate was finished in 3 exposures (2700 sec total). Plate 1606 (cartridge 8): Guide stars on the gotoField. There were 3 or 4 timeouts in a row on the guider, starting with the guider flat. This plate was finished in 4 exposures (3600 sec total). The request for the postCal came too late. Plate 1443 (cartridge 3): FK5 needed to acquire the field. The FK5 was found 10" E and 10" S of its original pointing. This plate was finished in 3 exposures (3300 sec total). Plate 1461 (cartridge 2): FK5 again needed to acquire the field. The FK5 was 10" S of its original pointing. After the preCal finished it was noticed that sp1 had gone out of collimation (r1 XSIGMA and WSIGMA were both in the red). The science exposure was aborted at this time and sp1 was recollimated. The time lost to recollimation was logged as a spectrograph problem. By the time recollimation was completed, the clouds had increased but we were still able to obtain 2 useful exposures (2400 sec total) before closing for clouds at 1200Z. endNight completed successfully. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4476 22:47Z 23:04Z 100 O -159.72 -155.50 42 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): YES QA Procedures Done (y/n): YES UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 25195, plate 1364 ------- 22:51 25195 0.0 bias 22:54 25196 10.0 flat test 22:56 25197 2.0 arc test 23:00 25198 2.1 arc test 23:03 25199 2.1 arc test 23:17 25200 2.1 arc test 23:20 25201 2.1 arc test ----- sequence 25202, plate -9999 ------- 01:31 25202 0.0 bias 01:46 25203 0.0 bias ----- sequence 25204, plate 1737 ------- 22.0 18.8 21.5 15.4 DONE 03:32 25204 10.0 flat 03:35 25205 2.0 arc 04:02 25206 900.1 target 04:25 25207 1200.1 target 04:39 25208 10.0 flat 04:41 25209 2.0 arc 05:33 25210 1500.1 target 05:37 25211 10.0 flat 05:39 25212 2.0 arc ----- sequence 25213, plate 1744 ------- 18.0 18.3 17.7 14.0 DONE 06:02 25213 10.0 flat 06:04 25214 2.0 arc 06:29 25215 1200.1 target 06:42 25216 600.1 target 07:00 25217 900.1 target ----- sequence 25218, plate 1606 ------- 20.8 21.7 19.3 17.9 DONE 07:18 25218 10.0 flat 07:20 25219 2.0 arc 07:50 25220 900.1 target 08:08 25221 900.1 target 08:26 25222 900.1 target 08:44 25223 900.1 target ----- sequence 25224, plate 1443 ------- 20.5 18.2 23.1 19.3 DONE 09:03 25224 10.0 flat 09:06 25225 2.0 arc 09:31 25226 1200.1 target 09:53 25227 1200.1 target 10:12 25228 900.1 target ----- sequence 25229, plate 1461 ------- 10.4 7.2 11.1 8.7 10:26 25229 10.0 flat bad -
