APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday March 12, 2004 (MJD 53077) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Mike Harvanek Atsuko Nitta Jon Brinkmann ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Rain, snow, clouds and high humidity kept us closed all night. We think the az abort problem is solved (see log for details). Files were moved from sdsshost:/mcptpm to commish:/mcptpm to free up space. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon ============= Rain/Snow in the afternoon. engCrew continued their work on finding the cause of AZ aborts. We did not reboot host since the engCrew was working on the telescope. Night ====== JB and Mike continued to work on debugging the AZ abort problem. It was noticed that the gauge on the air hose used to fill the imager cart air springs had fallen down in the crack between the rotating floor and the telescope. The gauge was removed, the azimuth axis was tested and the aborts had disappeared. Hopefully this solves the problem. During checkout, the LED for the 15 volt power supply on the altitude #2 amplifier did not come on. JB was still on site and we replaced the amplifier with a spare (#7). The altitude axis was then tested. Although everything showed green, the alt axis would not engage. JB then replaced the digital module in the spare with the module in the failed amplifier (#3) and everything worked as it should. Also during checkout, it was noticed that although the instrument lift heater power switch was in the on position, the light indicating the heater power is on was not lit. JB tested the circuit, determined that the power was indeed on and concluded that the light bulb was bad. The bulb was not replaced because it was not a simple job. Atsuko moved some files from sdsshost:/d4/mcptpm to sdss-commish:/data/mcptpm and then removed these files from sdsshost:/d4/mcptpm to free up some disk space. Weather (rain, snow, clouds, high humidity) kept us closed all night. endNight was run on cloudy night tapes. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4499 00:49Z 01:27Z 100 O -107.62 -98.04 77 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): YES QA Procedures Done (y/n): NO UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 00:41 25554 0.0 bias ----- sequence 25555, plate -9999 ------- 03:01 25555 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: None Stays: None ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 00:32Z 31 31 1 357 (NNW) -9999 - Rain/snow 01:04Z 31 31 1 59 (ENE) -9999 - Rain/snow 01:34Z 31 31 0 45 (NE) -9999 - Rain/snow 02:05Z 31 31 0 349 (NNW) -9999 - Rain/snow 02:37Z 31 30 0 239 (WSW) -9999 - Rain/snow 03:17Z 31 28 6 2 (N) -9999 - Rain/snow 03:49Z 31 31 10 11 (N) -9999 - Partly cloudy 04:22Z 31 31 8 24 (NNE) -9999 - Cloudy 04:54Z 31 31 7 17 (NNE) -9999 - Cloudy 05:26Z 31 31 9 4 (N) -9999 - Cloudy 05:59Z 31 31 6 349 (NNW) -9999 - Cloudy 06:31Z 31 28 2 33 (NNE) -9999 - Cloudy 07:03Z 31 30 1 259 (W) -9999 - Cloudy 07:35Z 31 30 5 1 (N) -9999 - Cloudy 08:08Z 30 30 4 0 (N) -9999 - Cloudy 08:40Z 30 30 1 305 (NW) -9999 - Cloudy 09:12Z 31 30 4 337 (NNW) -9999 - Cloudy 09:44Z 30 30 8 307 (NW) -9999 - Cloudy 10:17Z 30 30 8 315 (NW) -9999 - Cloudy 10:49Z 30 30 11 347 (NNW) -9999 - Cloudy ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Never opened (rain, snow, clouds, humidity).
