APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Sunday October 10, 2004 (MJD 53289) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Mike Harvanek Jurek Krzesinski Dan Long Visitors: Jen Adelman-McCarthy John Marriner ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Finished 1 plate (1960); good data on another plate (1917). Most of the night was lost to clouds, humidity, rain, snow, lightning. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- After adjusting the r2 wavemax 2 nights ago, the wavemin for r2 needed adjusting today. The collimation also required changes. Night: ------ Clouds nearby so we begin with spectroscopy. Plate 1960 (cartridge 3): Segue101. Guide stars on the gotoField. When combined with previous data (53287), this plate was finished in 2 exposures (2321 sec total). Both exposures had insufficient signal in r2 and huge signal in r1 but we still called this good since this is a regular segue plate. If it turns out that the r signal is important, perhaps these exposures should be declared bad. SoS complained about whopping fibers, scattered light and bad sky residuals (as it did on 53287). Plate 1917 (cartridge 4): Seguefaint98. Had to hunt for the FK5 but found it at a dec offset of -10". We obtained 2 exposures (2400 sec total) before this plate expired. During the cartridge change, we decided the clouds had become a threat and we closed around 04:00Z. The remainder of the night was lost to clouds, humidity, rain, snow and lightning. Satellite images showed little hope of improvement in the weather and even if the sky did clear, humidity would remain an issue. We called it a night at 09:30Z. endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4875 23:10Z 23:53Z 100 O 76.59 87.33 86 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): YES QA Procedures Done (y/n): YES UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 28808, plate -9999 ------- 23:07 28808 0.0 bias {{}} ----- sequence 28809, plate 1960 ------- 23:29 28809 10.0 flat post-flat 23:31 28810 2.0 arc post-arc 23:35 28811 2.1 arc {{focus, hartmann l}} 23:37 28812 2.1 arc {{focus, hartmann r}} 23:51 28813 2.1 arc {{focus, hartmann l}} 23:54 28814 2.1 arc {{focus, hartmann r}} ----- sequence 28815, plate -9999 ------- 00:01 28815 0.0 bias {{}} 00:05 28816 0.0 bias {{}} ----- sequence 28817, plate 1960 ------- 9.2 148.5 4.9 0.0 tonight 00:13 28817 2.1 arc test 12.0 232.5 12.2 9.3 53287 00:15 28818 2.1 arc test ------------------- 00:25 28819 2.1 arc test 21.2 381.0 17.1 9.3 DONE 00:28 28820 2.1 arc test 01:39 28821 10.0 flat 01:42 28822 2.0 arc 02:05 28823 1121.3 target 02:42 28824 1200.1 target ----- sequence 28825, plate 1917 ------- 12.5 7.6 13.8 9.1 not done 03:03 28825 10.0 flat 03:05 28826 2.0 arc 03:30 28827 1200.1 target 03:53 28828 1200.1 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:51Z 3 1960 46.44 0.0027 61.29 -0.0033 218.31 0.0112 1.000200 03:11Z 4 1917 -16.33 -0.0003 49.98 -0.0046 166.13 -0.0038 1.000030 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL7902 Stays: JL7903 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:51Z 3 1960 1.00020 -1974 -406 80 46 61.4 7.5 14 144 ---- 1.6" 03:11Z 4 1917 1.00003 -296 936 0 -16 50.0 8.5 16 131 ---- 1.6" ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:34Z 53 34 15 219 (SW) -9999 - 00:06Z 50 35 11 215 (SW) -9999 - 00:38Z 46 36 12 149 (SSE) -9999 - clear 01:10Z 44 37 16 133 (SE) -9999 - light clouds 01:42Z 45 32 15 132 (SE) -9999 - partly cloudy 02:15Z 45 28 15 123 (ESE) -9999 - partly cloudy 02:45Z 46 23 16 134 (SE) -9999 - partly cloudy 03:15Z 46 20 19 128 (SE) -9999 - partly cloudy 03:47Z 46 21 15 133 (SE) -9999 - partly cloudy 04:19Z 45 21 14 126 (SE) -9999 - totally cloudy 04:52Z 46 19 11 135 (SE) -9999 - totally cloudy 05:24Z 45 21 7 78 (ENE) -9999 - totally cloudy 05:56Z 44 24 8 45 (NE) -9999 - totally cloudy 06:28Z 39 38 7 290 (WNW) -9999 - rain 07:00Z 37 35 7 40 (NE) -9999 - rain 07:33Z 36 32 16 76 (ENE) -9999 - rain/snow 08:05Z 36 33 14 79 (E) -9999 - rain/snow 08:37Z 34 33 18 97 (E) -9999 - rain/snow 09:09Z 34 33 15 84 (E) -9999 - rain/snow 09:41Z 35 33 22 74 (ENE) -9999 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 00:35Z Enclosure doors opened, fans and blowers on, louvers opened. 00:45Z Enclosure off. 04:00Z Enclosure on (clouds). 05:45Z Doors closed, fans and blowers off, louvers closed.
