Chicago) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- It was clear all night. We ran the imager until the moon came up around 05:10, then switched to spectroscopy. Run 4930 imaged 82 S between lambda 123 and 175 in marginal seeing. This run will probably only be considered useable if we don't get a chance to image 82 S again this dark run. We finished one plate (1864), and got data on three others (1560, 1907, 1920). We had another episode of the spectrographs going out of spec on the first exposures of the night. This time it was XMAX on r2. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- No spectro collimation adjustment needed. Numbers in the Problems section. No problems to report. Starting with the imager under clear skies. 01:12Z Run 4930: 82 S In focus from frame 20 01:34Z Twilight frame 43, lambda 122.5 Seeing acceptable (1.2 - 1.4 in i'). Seeing goes bad about frame 60, dips back down to good levels between 80 and 100, then stays bad until about frame 145. It ranged between 1.4 and 2.0 from frame 145 to frame 350 (lambda 138 to 168) which might be useable if we don't get a chance to image this area again. Getting 1.2 to 1.4 arseconds on the guider. Wind switched to light NW and temperature has risen nearly 5 C in the last hour. No moisture either - relative humidity 5%! doNextScience was accidentally clicked instead of preCalib, so the first science exposure was taken before any calibrations. Unfortunately when the flat was done XMAX in r2 was too high :(. The collimator was adjusted to get XMAX back into spec. This means that the science exposure 29110 and the calibrations 29111 and 29112 are all bad. Like last run, it seems there are a lot more occurrences of the spectrographs going out of spec than usual. 06:14Z Trying another preCalib to see if we're in spec now. Nope. We didn't get as much correction in position as expected and to make things worse it put us out of spec in the dispersion direction (WAVEMIN too high). This would seem to indicate that the collimator is not moving as commanded, but motors indicate normal completion of move. Oops. Typo in mechMoveColl. Issued + - -. Should have been + + -. 06:33Z preCalib again. All in spec now.
