APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Thursday December 9, 2004 (MJD 53349) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Dan Long Night: Jurek Krzesinski Steph Snedden ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- High winds kept us closed for long intervals. When open, we finished three plates (1929, 2058, 2066) and got good signal on two others. Although it was photometric, the seeing never stabilized well enough for imaging. One spectro DA problem. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Afternoon checkout was trouble free. Spectrographs did not require a focus tweak. Night: ------ Skies were clear at sunset, but wind was high and had an easterly component, so we thought it best to start with spectroscopy. 00:48Z Cartridge 8, plate 2058 - SEGUE faint Guide stars on goToField with last night's offsets in. Plate was declared done in a total exposure of 3300s, added on to previous exposures. Seeing was variable, and in general too poor for imaging. 02:28Z Closed due to high wind. 03:50Z Reopened with cartridge 9, plate 2066 - SEGUE faint. GSOGTF. 04:36Z While reading out the first science image, spectro 1 monitor in the control room went to a blue screen and spectro 2 monitor continued to display our previous frame, but all the files transferred okay and looked fine. A test bias afterward was also fine and transferred fine, though the monitor displays did not show the new frames. We decided to continue working since the data were okay, just not the monitors. Finished the plate with a total exposure of 4500s added to signal from a previous night. 06:01Z Cartridge 3, plate 2049 - SEGUE bright GSOGTF. Got useful signal in 1800s, but couldn't finish the plate because... 06:48Z Closed again due to high winds. Deja vu. During this downtime, we rebooted the spectro crate & restarted the servers. Monitors now work again. 10:05Z - Reopened again. Cartridge 6, plate 1929 - Survey plate GSOGTF. Finished this plate with a total exposure of 3000s. 11:18Z - Cartridge 5, plate 1749 - Survey plate GSOGTF. Seeing got pretty bad during this time, so we couldn't finish the plate, but got useable signal. endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5032 23:04Z 23:13Z 100 O 134.29 136.42 28 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n):y QA Procedures Done (y/n):y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 29744, plate -9999 ------- 23:04 29744 0.0 bias ----- sequence 29745, plate 1932 ------- 23:09 29745 10.0 flat 23:11 29746 2.0 arc 23:15 29747 2.1 arc 23:17 29748 2.1 arc ----- sequence 29749, plate -9999 ------- 23:55 29749 0.0 bias ----- sequence 29750, plate 2058 ------- 01:09 29750 10.0 flat 01:11 29751 2.0 arc 01:35 29752 1200.1 target 01:58 29753 1200.1 target 02:16 29754 900.1 target 02:19 29755 10.0 flat 02:22 29756 2.0 arc ----- sequence 29757, plate 2066 ------- 04:07 29757 10.0 flat 04:10 29758 2.0 arc 04:34 29759 1200.1 target 04:41 29760 0.0 bias 05:04 29761 1200.1 target 05:27 29762 1200.1 target 05:45 29763 900.1 target 05:48 29764 10.0 flat 05:51 29765 2.0 arc ----- sequence 29766, plate 2049 ------- 06:05 29766 10.0 flat 06:08 29767 2.0 arc 06:27 29768 900.1 target 06:45 29769 900.1 target 07:57 29770 0.0 bias 08:00 29772 0.0 bias ----- sequence 29773, plate 1929 ------- 10:15 29773 10.0 flat 10:18 29774 2.0 arc 10:38 29775 900.1 target 10:56 29776 900.1 target 11:18 29777 1200.1 target ----- sequence 29778, plate 1749 ------- 11:31 29778 10.0 flat 11:33 29779 2.0 arc 12:03 29780 1500.1 target 12:31 29781 1500.1 target 12:49 29782 900.1 target 12:52 29783 10.0 flat 12:55 29784 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:07Z 8 2058 71.68 0.0001 70.39 0.0022 241.56 -0.0016 1.000200 04:15Z 9 2066 -24.56 0.0010 78.83 0.0017 157.68 0.0452 1.000210 06:10Z 3 2049 -23.28 0.0021 54.98 0.0012 160.52 0.0118 1.000060 10:27Z 6 1929 -10.31 -0.0020 79.75 0.0023 170.53 0.0414 1.000190 12:31Z 5 1749 0.73 -0.0011 71.02 0.0035 180.54 0.0068 1.000250 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL8132 Stays: JL8133 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:06Z 8 2058 1.00020 -1974 -354 150 72 70.4 3.6 24 18 - 1.5 04:15Z 9 2066 1.00021 -2073 -587 10 -24 78.8 3.2 27 20 - 1.5 06:14Z 3 2049 1.00006 -593 726 50 -25 54.7 3.1 23 22 - 1.3 10:27Z 6 1929 1.00019 -1875 -444 -10 -10 79.8 4.4 23 30 - 1.7 12:31Z 5 1749 1.00025 -2468 -924 -10 1 71.0 3.6 18 72 - 2.5 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:06Z 39 21 18 4 (N) 163 - Clear 23:36Z 38 22 25 23 (NNE) 167 - Clear 01:12Z 38 20 24 15 (NNE) 164 - " 01:44Z 38 20 30 5 (N) 127 - " 02:16Z 38 20 30 24 (NNE) 137 - " 02:48Z 39 19 28 22 (NNE) 146 - " 03:18Z 39 20 15 26 (NNE) 121 - " 03:51Z 39 18 21 16 (NNE) 89 - " 04:23Z 38 20 18 28 (NNE) 160 - " 04:53Z 38 20 17 28 (NNE) 173 - " 05:25Z 37 19 23 17 (NNE) 336 - " 05:58Z 38 18 15 26 (NNE) 209 - " 06:29Z 36 17 30 31 (NNE) 174 - " 07:02Z 37 17 32 20 (NNE) 117 - " 07:34Z 37 17 35 22 (NNE) 156 - " 08:06Z 35 18 28 25 (NNE) 128 - " 08:38Z 34 19 25 28 (NNE) 151 - " 09:10Z 35 17 23 20 (NNE) 124 - " 09:43Z 35 17 28 21 (NNE) 84 - " 10:16Z 39 11 25 25 (NNE) 166 - " 10:47Z 41 8 20 47 (NE) 205 - " 11:21Z 40 7 24 60 (ENE) 251 - " 11:53Z 43 7 13 35 (NE) 180 - " 12:24Z 38 7 17 61 (ENE) 195 - " 12:55Z 39 6 16 53 (NE) 188 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 23:30Z Doors Open, Fans On 00:30Z Opened enclosure 02:30Z Closed due to high wind. There were no DA errors in Watcher or SOP. We were able to continue to work without the monitors (they did not read out on any subsequent exposures), although we eventually rebooted the spectro crate, while we were waiting for the wind to drop. This brought the monitors back to life, although we needed to resync frame numbers and had to restart the servers. apo_plotbias results: -------------------- Filename 02% 05% 10% 50% 90% 95% 98% ------------------- ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ sdR-b1-00029749.fit -6.1 -3.8 -2.7 1.8 7.5 8.6 10.9 sdR-b1-00029749.fit -6.1 -3.8 -2.7 1.8 7.5 8.6 10.9 sdR-b2-00029749.fit -8.6 -6.9 -4.7 1.1 7.7 9.8 11.6 sdR-b2-00029749.fit -8.6 -6.9 -4.7 1.1 7.7 9.8 11.6 sdR-r1-00029749.fit -7.3 -5.1 -3.8 1.9 6.9 8.8 10.0 sdR-r1-00029749.fit -7.3 -5.1 -3.8 1.9 6.9 8.8 10.0 sdR-r2-00029749.fit -8.0 -5.9 -4.8 0.4 6.7 8.2 10.2 sdR-r2-00029749.fit -8.0 -5.9 -4.8 0.4 6.7 8.2 10.2
