APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Thursday January 6, 2005 (MJD 53377) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- swing: Jurek Krzesinski night: John Barentine, Mike Harvanek ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Most of the night was lost to clouds. One plate (1751) was finished. We had an ion pump pressure alert that appeared to be different from the spike events that have been seen recently. See the log for details. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon checkout: ------------------- Done, spectrographs did not required focusing. The towels put on the floor to drain water inside the enclosure got frozen into the metal floor. Without warming the floor or proper tools I was uneable to get them out. I menaged however to unstick the one which was on the enclosure way, so it's safe to open, but we need a day staff to work on the rest of the frozen towels or warmer weather. Night: ------ Partly cloudy so we begin with spectroscopy. Plate 2042 (cartridge 2): Segue. No guide stars on the gotoField but this may have been due to clouds. An FK5 was found but it was faint. Due to clouds, guide stars were still not found after the FK5 was acquired. We wait. This plate expired before we could get any photons. Plate 2078 (cartridge 7): Segue. No guide stars, no FK5 with a 30 second exposure. The clouds are too thick. We wait. This plate expired before we could get any photons. 07:51Z - We got an ion pump pressure critical error message along with the following watcher alert: ion pump pr (2.05 : 2005-01-07 07:51:19Z). The pressure seemed to vary between about 0.5 and 1.0 for around 30 to 40 minutes following the alert and then varied between 0.1 and 0.25 for the remainder of the night. The clouds started breaking up shortly before 12:00Z. Plate 1751 (cartridge 5): Survey. Guide stars on the gotoField. The first attempt at a guider focus loop failed because the guider frame did not arrive in a timely fashion. The sop tcc connection also appeared to have died. Another startDa -tcc was issued and all was well. When combined with previous data (53376), this plate was finished in a single 900 sec exposure. However, since it was too late to switch to another plate, an additional 900 sec exposure was obtained as bonus S/N. endNight finished. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5100 22:54Z 23:10Z 100 O 159.25 163.32 41 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): YES QA Procedures Done (y/n): Bias was checked; nothing else was done.
