APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday January 28, 2005 (MJD 53399) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- "We are on the Mission from Gunn" Part 1 "Afternoon Chaos" Cast: Atsuko Nitta (swing) Scot Kleinman (cleaning up after Atsuko's typo and setting up software) Sir Robert, the good and the shoeless (phone -- Atsuko called to speak help about fiducial table version number which was fixed by Scot) Part 2 "The Beautiful Photometric Night" Cast: Howard Brewington Pete Newman Special effect: Blowing snow and Ice Special Guest : Craig Loomis -- the 24/7 Man ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Shakedown. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- New fidicuial tables sorted out, but no night shake items due to lots of snow blowing off the trees. We therefore still need at least a pointing model. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon ============ Scot installed new iop and TPM. He also helped clean up the typo mess Atsuko made last night on MCP fiducial table. id4-2 stopped archiving due to a bd tape directory. The drive was cleaned and new tape was placed in the drive. This happened while taking afternoon bias in the doghouse. Error message from Watcher from this error is in the PROBLEM section. 0012Z The mcpMenu at the telescope disappeared while I was at the telescope checking the balance. :( NOTE: SoS was worked on by Craig the 24/7Man. Mirrors homing and relaxing --------------------------- We noted that the collimation was turned off and I noted that TCC complained about it today since I logged into TCC. Hmmm? JB says he did not turn it off. I don't know why it was off. Anyway, M1 was homed and relaxed. M2 homing went fine too. New mirror MIG nominal values stored (although collimate yet to be checked on the sky). Night ===== Lots of blowing snow and periods of margin dewpoint depression kept us closed. The IR Sky Camera makes a very nice blowing-snow detector, though it was also showing us what a nice photometric sky we were missing! We eventually gave up and ran endNight onto the cloudy-night tapes about 11:30Z. We hope the sun will put a crust on the snow by tomorrow night. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5126 23:18Z 23:46Z 100 O -172.95 -165.97 61 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): Y QA Procedures Done (y/n): Biases checked.
