APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday February 11, 2005 (MJD 53413) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Atsuko Kleinman Nigth: Mike Harvanek Howard Brewington ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Clouds, high humidity and rain all night. We never opened. We were getting 2-3 watcher warnings PER HOUR for both sp1 and sp2 that the server was not responding. Killing and restarting the servers seems to have solved the problem. See the log section for details. Lots of water in the enclosure (west side, both levels). See the main log section for details. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon =============== JB took a long bias in the afternoon (close to 500 frames). So it takes a very long time to startup IOP. I was tempted to clean out all the gangs from the disk, but thinking that it might cause sadness later when the nighters run endNight. So we will live with iop taking a long time to startup. It took about 8 min for my iop sessions to start. In the process of finding out why IOP was taking so long, Craig rediscovered the horribleness of how IOP tries to look at all gangs on dsk and also how it goes and checks many /skycat/oplogs/MJD directories. :( Craig did send email out on this months ago. I think we have been living with it, but it will be nice to clean this up. The postCalib were pronoucned good in SoS. I did not have to redo any arc or flt. The telescope is ready, EXCEPT that there is a trash can catching dripping water int he lower enclosure. So the observers should move them away from the PMSS rack if the weather allows them to open tonight. Note that there are many absorbing pads on the floor of the enclosure. Night ===== Clouds, high humidity and rain all night. We never opened. We are getting 2-3 watcher warnings PER HOUR for both sp1 and sp2 that the server is not responding; e.g., Camera Serial Line server is not responding (Last packet: 2005-02-12 04:06:43Z) Each time the server is checked and appears to be up and alive and responding. The watcher messages are cleared and then about 20-30 minutes later, another set of warnings appears with a later "last packet" time. So, packets are being sent/received. Perhaps there is some kind of slow down or perhaps there is a real problem. Killing and restarting the servers seems to have solved the problem. endNight ran onto cloudy night tapes. During shutdown we found a substantial amount of water on the west side of the building on both the upper and lower levels. We emptied a small trash can full of water in the lower enclosure, put both a large and small trash can under leaks in the lower enclosure, wrapped a plastic trash bag around the west end az motor in the lower enclosure, squeegeed and broomed water out the west door in the upper enclosure and put down 1-2 boxes of absorbent pads on the floor of both levels. The humidity in the enclosure was 89%. The enclosure heater is on. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5155 23:37Z 00:08Z 100 O -154.46 -146.69 66 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): YES QA Procedures Done (y/n): NO UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 30837, plate -9999 ------- 23:11 30837 0.0 bias ----- sequence 30838, plate 2061 ------- 23:47 30838 10.0 flat 23:50 30839 2.0 arc ----- sequence 30840, plate -9999 ------- 00:45 30840 0.0 bias 00:48 30841 0.0 bias 03:06 30842 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: none Stays: none ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:06Z 37 36 36 134 (SE) -9999 - 23:39Z 37 36 32 159 (SSE) -9999 - 00:10Z 38 37 14 177 (S) -9999 - 00:56Z 38 37 26 162 (SSE) -9999 - 01:28Z 39 36 24 185 (S) -9999 - 02:00Z 37 37 22 179 (S) -9999 - 02:33Z 38 37 21 187 (S) -9999 - 03:05Z 38 36 18 154 (SSE) -9999 - 03:12Z 38 36 26 178 (S) -9999 - 03:44Z 38 37 24 185 (S) -9999 - 04:14Z 38 38 24 187 (S) -9999 - 04:44Z 38 38 22 185 (S) -9999 - 05:15Z 37 37 20 188 (S) -9999 - 05:45Z 38 36 22 192 (SSW) -9999 - 06:16Z 37 37 18 187 (S) -9999 - 06:46Z 37 37 19 204 (SSW) -9999 - 07:17Z 37 37 17 183 (S) -9999 - 07:48Z 35 35 17 197 (SSW) -9999 - 08:19Z 35 35 22 198 (SSW) -9999 - 08:49Z 35 35 26 200 (SSW) -9999 - 09:19Z 35 35 21 202 (SSW) -9999 - 09:49Z 35 36 27 201 (SSW) -9999 - 10:22Z 35 36 25 186 (S) -9999 - 10:54Z 36 36 23 196 (SSW) -9999 - 11:26Z 35 36 26 197 (SSW) -9999 - Clouds, rain and high humidity all night. ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Never opened (weather).
