APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Sunday April 17, 2005 (MJD 53478) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Steph Snedden Engineering: French Leger ET Team: Jian Ge Julian Van Eycken PT Science: John Barentine ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- ET Shake and Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Observed three ET plates with useful science results, we think (DHCP problem kept them from analyzing data right away). Could not lock phase on all fibers ... a residual problem from the stacked beamsplitter. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- The early part of the night was used to finish the ET setup, but we also remained closed because of orographic clouds for approx. 3 hours after sunset. Copied the plug map files to data/spectro/plugMapM and plugMapP. I edited the plugMapM files to reflect the correct cartridge numbers. 04:22Z Opened to mostly clear skies with cartridge 6, plate 8011. Needed an FK5 to find the field. Between the last run and this run, the phase shifted between the different segments of the stacked beamsplitter. This means that they can only phase-lock on the fibers in one segment. They did get good signal from the reference star, though. Took a few exposures, the longest being for 30 min. Those computers using dynamic host configuration IPs lost their ability to connect to the outside world. Those computers with static IPs were okay. Since we didn't consider this a critical problem, we didn't wake Craig, but sent him an email. This did keep the ET team from analyzing their data in quasi-real time, though. They will have to do that tomorrow. 09:02Z Cartridge 8, plate 8013 Guide stars at the edges of the fibers. Exposed for 30 min. 09:32Z Ion pump pressure spike. 09:33Z ION_PUMP_PR 2.09 # MICROTORR 09:34Z ION_PUMP_PR 1.88 # MICROTORR 09:35Z ION_PUMP_PR 1.76 # MICROTORR 09:37Z ION_PUMP_PR 1.41 # MICROTORR 09:40Z ION_PUMP_PR 1.68 # MICROTORR 09:42Z ION_PUMP_PR 1.88 # MICROTORR 09:43Z ION_PUMP_PR 1.93 # MICROTORR 09:45Z ION_PUMP_PR 1.06 # MICROTORR 09:51Z ION_PUMP_PR 0.82 # MICROTORR 09:52Z ION_PUMP_PR 0.67 # MICROTORR 10:30Z ION_PUMP_PR 0.25 # MICROTORR 10:37Z ION_PUMP_PR 0.20 # MICROTORR 10:43Z ION_PUMP_PR 0.24 # MICROTORR 11:02Z ION_PUMP_PR 0.16 # MICROTORR 10:09Z Cartridge 4, plate 8014 Needed an FK5 and a lucky guess offset to get the guide stars. Started a 30 minute exposure and nervously watched the dewpoint depression. It behaved, so we did another 30 minute exposure. Then we did 5 minute exposures (three total, I think), until twilight made it hard to guide. 12:02Z Closed. endNight -doTpm ran on cloudy night tapes. Dust climbed over 2000 particles/0.1 cu.ft. just as we closed. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 06:46Z 6 8011 220.63 0.0027 51.51 0.0047 73.40 -0.0098 1.000230 07:42Z 6 8011 222.69 0.0013 43.55 0.0049 86.56 -0.0159 1.000250 09:19Z 8 8013 -32.85 -0.0024 51.92 0.0042 152.74 -0.0159 1.000210 10:33Z 4 8014 185.68 0.0053 55.13 0.0055 12.32 -0.0029 1.000150 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 06:45Z 6 8011 1.00023 -2270 -654 50 221 51.5 9.3 10 226 - 1.3 07:42Z 6 8011 1.00025 -2468 -791 50 223 43.6 9.1 17 215 - 1.2 09:19Z 8 8013 1.00021 -2073 -341 200 -33 51.9 7.9 15 186 - 1.2 10:33Z 4 8014 1.00015 -1480 239 300 186 55.1 7.4 12 182 - 1.3 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 02:54Z 49 26 11 233 (SW) 1620 - 03:26Z 49 27 7 251 (WSW) 1668 - 03:58Z 48 26 10 269 (W) 1488 - 04:30Z 49 26 7 256 (WSW) 1566 - 05:03Z 49 25 8 247 (WSW) 1539 - 05:35Z 49 24 11 233 (SW) 1423 - 06:07Z 49 23 10 215 (SW) 1383 - 06:40Z 48 21 9 216 (SW) 1293 - 07:12Z 48 21 13 221 (SW) 1486 - 07:44Z 48 19 14 218 (SW) 1340 - 08:16Z 46 27 16 199 (SSW) 1337 - 08:48Z 47 30 12 202 (SSW) 1287 - 09:19Z 46 36 15 186 (S) 1389 - 09:53Z 45 38 18 194 (SSW) 1508 - 10:25Z 45 38 12 197 (SSW) 1492 - 10:57Z 45 36 11 188 (S) 1544 - 11:30Z 45 34 8 241 (WSW) 1580 - 12:02Z 45 27 8 235 (SW) 1873 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 01:38Z Opened doors, turned on blower, but left cone fans off. 04:22Z Opened enclosure. 12:02Z Closed enclosure.
