APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Thursday June 2, 2005 (MJD 53524) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Atsuko Kleinman Jurek Krzesinski ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- 2 Plates done: 1851, 2181 and we colected useful signal on another one. We attempted to get Mamoru calibration tonight but goStare failed on the 3-rd exposure - actualy it was prbably DA which caused the problem (see the log). There were a few too large to correct errors (az,alt): see the problem section. endNight rejoyced but no shiptapes e-mail was sent (see the log and the problem section). Atsuko got Mail Delivery email instead, so it's not endNight which failed. Joh Brinkman and Craig were notified. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon ------------------- When we came in, there was a sticky note on Landru saying that host is under repair. It turns out that Craig has already solved the crisis while we were asleep. Since host has been rebooted, we have only cleaned up murmur this afternoon, but did not reboot host. initNight worked fine in iop, but the first bias did not start due to the family error message of ad2 not responding. The servers were still up. The monitor did not scroll. The Waiting for command response scrlled on the iop window in which we issued the bias. We did ptvmeReset and cntrl-Ced out of the iop that was waiting for command response. Then started successfully a bias from a new iop. Spectrograph were collimated today (see the problem section for actuator positions before and after collimation, the abmient temperature was: ~11 C). Night: ------- For a while we thought that the weather will get beter, but it didn't. After it started to rain we decided to get some Mamoru calibrations. We setup for u_leak. -------------------- Slits width: 0.5 mm, stage position: 9410 voltage set: 20 V Run 5368 Fremes: 1-2 bias. We looked at u4 bias frames and they seems to have vertical pattern Present. Mamoru/Connie could you please look at them as well? 3-4 dark. 5-6 should be bias and dark exposures, but frame 5 seems to have some light leakage problem! 7 the frame did not make it. The iop window seems to hung on us and goStare did not finished reading the frame. Since that problem is now quite often with us. We did what we learned: killed the bad iop window, checked from other window cc imstat (to see if we can talk to the camera and if the shutters are closed - they were), then ptvme reset and tried to goDrift -bias (did not work). Then we reboot the DAs and checked if goDrift -bias works - it did! So we recovered this time without rebooting the host :))). At this point we gave up with calibration for tonight. Shortly after that the sky cleared out :). 08:03Z cart 8 plt. 1851, SOGTF. Plate done. 09:30Z cart 1 plt. 2181, SOGTF. Plate done. 10:15Z cart 7 plt. 2185 (segue), SOGTF. One exposure done. endNight rejoyced, but the tape shipmnet e-mail did not show up.
