Run 5853 imaged 82 S from 115 to -156 (RA 300 to 29). Some very thin cirrus and LOTS of nearby moon probably trashed data between RA 315 and 0. A note on the moon and tomorrow nights' supernova imaging. The moon will have a Dec of nearly zero at local midnight tomorrow. At that time its RA will be about 7 degrees, which is definitely within the supernova RA range. We will need to keep a close eye on things to make sure the imager shutters are closed as the 80+% illuminated moon tracks through the field of view, either that or split it into two runs. Shakeup tasks then began around 07:30Z. After a bit of a struggle getting the murmur server back we ran the rest of the night with the new DA v15_7, and the new iop v4_7_0. We left the new DA running and declared it current. PR 6731, 6732 closed. PR 6730 open pending additional testing. IOP has been left as test as there were some bugs in the new code. PR 6701 closed. PR 6718, 6729, 6682 still open pending new iop version. Many thanks to Kurt and Eric for all their late night efforts. Imager flats and biases were taken and checkBias/Flat were run and frames/analysis were transferred to Phoenix. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon check completed with no problems. No spectro checks due to shortage of time and lack of need for the spectrographs for the night. 23:35Z Fans On, Louvers Open Run 5851 On telescope bias Run 5852 Imager flats im> checkBias 5851 30 . {61 WARN: } {61 FAIL: leftRNComp } checkflat showed no warnings. Since we are now running from sdsshost2 we need to change the www setup so it is possible to look at the bias and flat vectors being written to /skycat/imager/[mjd]. It is also another instance of the procedures needing to be updated to reflect changes from the new DA. 00:40Z Enclosure Open 01:15Z Run 5853 82 S 115 to -156 Skippy happy from the start In focus by frame 23 01:30Z Twilight lambda 115.5, frame 34 Cloud band moving through between frames 105 and 110 around RA of 311. More frequent clouds starting around frame 130, RA 315 04:20Z With the moon being as close and as bright as it is tonight, even the slightest cloud causes significant brightness fluctuations. Its location is about 345, -7. This means that around frame 330 is closest approach. There is probably going to be too much scattered light to make this reducible for at least 50 frames either side of this. Tomorrow night will even be worse (see note in summary section). Moon is far enough away and clouds thin enough that astroline is no longer struggling with fwhm calculations starting around lambda 175 (RA 0 ). Seeing marginal between 1.5 and 2 arcseconds. 07:15Z Seeing is really good now. We are getting several chips under .9 and a few under .8 arcseconds. To bad we have to stop soon. 07:25Z ending drift. Frame 625, RA 29, lambda -156 07:27Z On to shakeup. switching DA to v15_7 Crates rebooted themselves (Note: It does the PT too) The auto reboot addresses PR6732 Murmur server (or any other server) for that matter would not restart after the switch. 08:00Z Calls to Eric and Kurt We reverted to the old DA and were able to restart the murmur server with no trouble We tried a second time switching to the new DA. The same thing happened when we tried to restart the murmur server. It would not start with either dscRun or cleanupMurmur. 09:10Z Kurt was able to start them with dscRun. He then tried cleanupMurmur. It failed until he did some ipc semaphore removal. Curiously when we tried that earlier, it said we had nothing to clean up. We are all puzzled by the inconsistent behavior. PR 6730: New VxWorks kernel. Imaging and PT data acquisition seems normal. Spectro not yet tested. PR still open pending spectro testing. PR 6731: dscRun stop_mursrvr kills rogue processes. This was tested and it worked. PR closed. PR 6732: dscSwSys reboots VxWorks boards. This command now successfully reboots the boards. PR closed. PR 6729: goDrift failed. It went directly from the flavor question to the comment question without asking for stripe/strip. It then bails with the error Error: invalid command name "checkStripeAgainstTCC" We got Eric on the phone again (poor Eric:). He then looked at the problem and gave us some updated code which fixed the error, and asked the stripe/strip question. PR not closed pending new iop. PR 6701: We see observer commands in the murmur log. PR closed. We found being the murmur log metaphysically draining. PR 6718: Attempting to get calcStripeParams to throw an error to show that it now sends info to murmur log on an error proved more difficult than anticipated (just giving an invalid stripe is not sufficient). We got it to throw the error by Eric altering some code to guarantee calcStripeParams would fail. PR not closed. PR 6682: We tried to get skippy to give us output on few or no stars. It would either succeed, or bomb out without completing. We tried closing the shutters to give it no stars. We also tried offsetting the telescope far enough that skippy wouldn't find a match. In both cases it would bomb trying to make some least squares fit. Eric will think about how to get skippy to give us a bad solution as a test case for watcher once it is updated for the range of acceptable nstars.
