APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday December 2, 2005 (MJD 53707) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Kaike Pan John Barentine Mike Harvanek (swing) Olena Malanushenko Viktor Malanushenko Visitor: Gil Esquerdo (Planetary Science Institute, Tucson) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Cloudy all night with periods of high wind and dust. We never opened. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- An adjustment to the spectro collimation on sp1 was made: sp1> mechPiston 2000 Coll_motor_A -12704 Coll_motor_B -12716 Coll_motor_C -12210 No adjustment was made on sp2: Coll_motor_A -5517 Coll_motor_B -8755 Coll_motor_C -8103 The spectrographs are collimated for a temp of approximately +1 degree C. A postCal taken after the adjustment showed all x/wsigma values to be in spec. Ventilation was delayed by dust. No problems to report. Night: ------ Lots of clouds at sunset so the enclosure was not removed. Dust counts dropped however and ventilation began at 00:30Z. Clouds persisted through the night, only thinning enough for us to see a handful of bright stars at any particular time. We had an ion pump pressure critical error at 06:03Z. The pressure peaked at 1.54 microtorr and then fell. By 06:30 it was 0.16 microtorr, and we had no further warnings. At 08:25Z we got a "no response" watcher warning on id2: no response (not responding: 2005-12-03 08:25:57Z) We rebooted the photo and astro crates and took a doghous bias (Run 5929) to make sure it was responding after the reboot. During the bias watcher complained about servers, and checking monx-3 we found a series of "bad ICC" errors in the imager server window complaining about id2. The timestamps were 11:11Z, right at the time when we rebooted. We restarted the servers. Once they came back up, it was clear that gangs transfers were properly taking place for all of the photo nodes, so we ended the drift. Starting at 10:20Z, for about one hour, we had wind gusts in excess of 40 MPH. We packed it in at 12:15Z, nearing the start of morning twilight, with the sky still mostly cloudy. endNight archived all the cloudy night stuff and rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5927 22:32Z 22:46Z 100 O 119.02 122.61 38 ignore 5928 00:20Z 00:42Z 100 O 146.23 151.58 50 ignore 5929 11:16Z 11:36Z 100 O -49.49 -44.27 49 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): yes QA Procedures Done (y/n): no UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 35148, plate -9999 ------- 22:32 35148 0.0 bias ----- sequence 35149, plate 2312 ------- 23:25 35149 10.0 flat 23:28 35150 2.0 arc 00:23 35151 10.0 flat 00:25 35152 2.0 arc ----- sequence 35153, plate -9999 ------- 00:46 35153 0.0 bias 00:49 35154 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:10Z 47 11 31 290 (WNW) 3852 - mostly cloudy 22:41Z 44 10 17 298 (WNW) 3047 - mostly cloudy 23:11Z 44 10 22 276 (W) 2389 - mostly cloudy 23:43Z 44 10 26 276 (W) 2570 - partly cloudy 00:15Z 43 9 22 269 (W) 1555 - mostly cloudy 00:46Z 42 9 22 262 (W) 880 - mostly cloudy 01:07Z 42 9 14 271 (W) 656 - mostly cloudy 01:39Z 42 10 12 279 (W) 843 - mostly cloudy 02:12Z 41 10 17 265 (W) 525 - mostly cloudy 02:44Z 41 10 14 266 (W) 435 - mostly cloudy 03:16Z 41 10 15 271 (W) 484 - mostly cloudy 03:48Z 41 9 26 282 (WNW) 456 - mostly cloudy 04:20Z 41 10 16 260 (W) 634 - mostly cloudy 04:52Z 41 9 22 295 (WNW) 425 - mostly cloudy 05:25Z 41 9 21 298 (WNW) 451 - mostly cloudy 05:57Z 41 9 12 273 (W) 1035 - mostly cloudy 06:29Z 40 10 16 269 (W) 646 - mostly cloudy 07:01Z 39 10 14 265 (W) 352 - mostly cloudy 07:37Z 39 9 21 259 (W) 512 - mostly cloudy 08:09Z 39 10 21 266 (W) 392 - mostly cloudy 08:42Z 39 10 20 264 (W) 342 - mostly cloudy 09:15Z 39 10 19 268 (W) 281 - mostly cloudy 09:48Z 38 10 20 266 (W) 181 - mostly cloudy 10:21Z 38 11 25 267 (W) 246 - mostly cloudy 10:54Z 38 11 23 247 (WSW) 196 - mostly cloudy 11:28Z 37 11 20 268 (W) 216 - mostly cloudy 12:00Z 37 12 19 267 (W) 238 - mostly cloudy ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 00:30Z Enclosure doors opened, fans and blowers on, louvers opened. 12:15Z Doors and louvers closed, fans off Telescope parked at 121,30 with Cart 2 (Plate 2312) mounted Counterweights at 250 Spectro autofill reconnected and spectro dewars force-filled No interlocks bypassed Dewar weights at 12:27Z Imager: 189lbs 19psi Spectro: 269lbs 19psi (fill in progress) ---=== SOFTWARE USED ===--- IOP/SOP: v4_9_2 Watcher: v2_31_0 MCP: v5_26_0 TPM: tpm_v3_1_0 AstroDa: v15_9 TCC: 2.7.2.1 sdssProcedures: v2_06 SoS: v4_10_7 hoggPT: v1_6_9 plate-mapper: v4_3_1 ---=== MIRROR NUMBERS ===--- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A -5.8420 -5.8440 Axial B -5.6800 -5.6770 Axial C 0.9410 0.9420 Trans D -9.9900 -9.9940 Lateral E 10.3759 10.3759 Lateral F 11.9507 11.9380 GALILS Commanded: 4700. -2450. 3000. -7800. 3300. 3000.
