APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Monday November 6, 2006 (MJD 54046) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Kaike Pan ET: Jian Ge Justin Crepp Shannon Watters: (spectro monthly checkout: afternoon) Robert Rupton: worked on watcher codes Eric Neilsen (by phone) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- ET Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- It was a productive ET night. Under variant sky conditions and good seeing, we obtained 9 ET measurements. The last exposure was lost due to the Landru crash. 50 min exposures were obtained for ET plates: 8018, 8028, 8029, 8030, 8032, and 8033. Plates 8018, 8032, and 8033 were obtained twince succussfully. The data for the third observations of plate 8018 was lost due to the crash of the control computer, landru. Piggy-back observation (plate 8033) were attempted. one 600s, two 900s, two 1200s exposures obtained. PROBLEM: The control computer, landru CRASHED at 12:00Z, all openning windows at that moment gone, Four displays looked just like those after exiting Fvwm. 50 minutes exposure data was lost. Night log was lost. Informatioon for offsets, focus cloud not be recorved. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Shannon Watters finished part of the spectro monthly checkout tasks. Night: ------ 00:45Z ET calibration 00:58Z cart 8, E8032. FK5 used fpr the field. 01:10Z Started ET 50 min exposure. 02:10Z ET plate 8028 (cartridge 4). get stars by applying last night's offsets. 02:15Z started a 50-min exposure. no guiding stars on fiber 3 and 6. 03:15Z ET plate 8033 (cartridge 1). FK5 used for the field. Piggy-back observation. 3:25Z precali. 3:30Z started a 50-min ET exposure. As a part of the spectro monthly checkout, Shannon did adjustments for position the spectra in wavelength on CCDs. Thanks! Now all wavemin and wavemax values of acr spectra are in spec. For piggy-back observations, one 600s, two 900s exposures were obtained. For unknown reasons, Sos refuses to reduce the science exposures. For readout display, the spectra were NOT saturated. 04:30Z cart 8, E 8032. Educated guess got the field. 04:33Z Started ET a 50 min exposure. 05:33Z ET plate 8030 (cartridge 6). stars on GTF. 05:37Z started one 50 minute exposures. DUE TO THE CRASH OF LANDRU, The nightlog was lost from this point. Eric was called to ask if there is anyway to recover the unsaved nightlog or activity time stamps. But we could not recover the information because this is a ET night. Between 6:30 and 12:00Z when landru crashed, we observed plate 8018, 8033 (piggy-back observations attempted again, two 20 min exposures obtained), 8018, 8017, 8018 (but this data was lost due to the crash). ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 23:23 41260 2.0 arc 23:35 41261 2.0 arc ----- sequence 41262, plate -9999 ------- 00:11 41262 0.0 bias ----- sequence 41263, plate 8033 ------- 03:26 41263 10.0 flat 03:29 41264 2.0 arc 03:43 41265 601.0 target 04:00 41266 901.0 target 04:18 41267 901.0 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:16Z 8 8032 39.77 0.0011 72.72 0.0004 214.59 0.0000 0.999960 02:18Z 4 8028 236.89 -0.0013 50.05 0.0002 89.52 -0.0154 1.000000 03:32Z 1 8033 69.43 0.0033 51.08 0.0012 234.05 -0.0115 1.000110 04:39Z 8 8032 281.50 -0.0012 52.26 0.0013 119.30 -0.0198 0.999930 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 00:27Z 8 0 1.00027 -2666 -890 60 121 30.0 6.3 11 20 01:16Z 8 8032 0.99996 395 1544 90 40 72.7 7.5 10 16 -- 1.3 02:18Z 4 8028 1.00000 0 1220 40 237 50.0 7.1 9 20 -- 1.4 03:32Z 1 8033 1.00011 -1086 279 0 69 51.1 7.3 16 18 -- 1.4 04:39Z 8 8032 0.99993 691 1746 0 281 52.2 7.3 9 359 -- 1.4 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:24Z 44 21 9 353 (NNW) 363 - partly cloudy 23:54Z 42 21 4 38 (NE) 370 - partly cloudy 00:24Z 43 21 11 14 (NNE) 331 - partly cloudy 00:55Z 44 19 11 11 (N) 255 - partly cloudy 01:25Z 44 18 11 11 (N) 174 - mostly clear 01:56Z 45 15 7 345 (NNW) 123 - 02:27Z 45 15 5 278 (W) 158 - 02:58Z 44 15 10 353 (NNW) 131 - 03:29Z 44 14 11 20 (NNE) 118 - 04:01Z 45 17 15 12 (NNE) 146 - 04:32Z 45 18 9 352 (NNW) 159 - 05:05Z 45 19 6 14 (NNE) 198 - 05:35Z 44 19 15 21 (NNE) 172 - 12:31Z 45 21 8 35 (NE) 71 - 13:04Z 46 21 0 346 (NNW) 58 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 23:00Z Enclosure doors opened, fans and blowers on, louvers opened. 00:15Z Enclosure off. 10:20Z Enclosure on, doors closed. 12:25 fans and blowers off, louvers closed.
