APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday February 27, 2007 (MJD 54159) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Steph Snedden Audrey Simmons Dan Oravetz Suvrath Mahadevan (UF) Scott Fleming (UF) French Leger (visiting) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- ET Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- A lot of clouds, a little science. Three ET exposures taken in variably cloudy conditions and one test exposure taken to measure scattered moonlight. We had a few more rotator aborts, but no other problems. endNight coped the cloudcam frames from irsc successfully. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: --------- No problems during checkout. Night: ----- 01:04Z - opened enclosure to mostly cloudy skies. We did slew to the first field, but had difficulty finding guide stars through the clouds. We stayed open and waited. The rotator aborted three times before we were able to complete our slew to the first field. If the current went too high, it occurred too quickly for me to see it in the real time display. 05:45Z - We ran a test for Suvrath. He wanted to get some scattered moonlight down the ET fibers to help determine sky brightness limits. We slewed to 5 degrees of the Moon and the ET crew collected photons, however, the clouds quickly became too thick for even this proximity to yield useful data. We waited some more. 09:04Z Cleared up quickly - or is it a sucker hole? We will try to observe. 09:18Z - Cartridge 1, plate E8026 GSOGTF One 50 minute exposure. Clouds started reforming about halfway through the exposure. We tried. 11:12Z - Cartridge 7, plate E8022 GSOGTF We mounted this plate during a sucker hole, and tried two exposures that were plagued by clouds and will probably be of limited use (Suvrath thinks the data will be good for more massive objects like binary stars, but not less massive planets). endNight rejoiced, and successfully copied the cloudcam images from irsc instead of hoggpt. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 09:25Z 1 8026 163.80 -0.0005 67.89 0.0005 -23.37 -0.0120 1.000100 11:15Z 7 8022 112.04 -0.0005 67.61 0.0005 -83.83 -0.0120 1.000150 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 09:25Z 1 8026 1.00010 -988 468 150 164 67.9 0.8 2 49 - 2.1 11:15Z 7 8022 1.00015 -1481 60 150 112 67.6 0.1 4 277 - 2.4 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 00:30Z 41 12 2 187 (S) 529 - Mostly cloudy 01:00Z 38 9 5 245 (WSW) 433 - ' 01:30Z 37 8 2 262 (W) 463 - ' 02:01Z 38 8 3 203 (SSW) 449 - ' 02:32Z 36 10 2 197 (SSW) 421 - ' 03:04Z 36 10 1 196 (SSW) 420 - ' 03:36Z 36 10 2 48 (NE) 450 - ' 04:08Z 36 10 2 156 (SSE) 404 - ' 04:40Z 36 8 1 87 (E) 549 - ' 05:11Z 36 7 4 83 (E) 555 - ' 05:43Z 35 7 4 37 (NE) 418 - ' 06:15Z 35 7 2 99 (E) 408 - ' 06:47Z 35 7 2 56 (NE) 370 - ' 07:20Z 35 6 3 29 (NNE) 381 - ' 07:52Z 34 6 3 182 (S) 369 - ' 08:24Z 35 4 3 99 (E) 327 - ' 08:56Z 34 5 3 32 (NNE) 449 - ' 09:27Z 33 4 2 92 (E) 441 - ' 09:58Z 33 5 3 204 (SSW) 469 - ' 10:30Z 32 6 5 241 (WSW) 410 - variably cloudy 11:01Z 32 6 3 147 (SSE) 399 - ' 11:33Z 31 6 2 274 (W) 372 - ' 12:05Z 31 2 4 276 (W) 379 - ' 12:37Z 30 3 5 279 (W) 393 - ' 13:10Z 30 1 7 260 (W) 339 - ' ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 00:30Z opened doors and started ventilation 01:06Z opened enclosure 13:09Z - Closed enclosure.
