Some sporadic clouds rolled in the wee hours of the morning. We were able to observe 7 fields spectroscopically. We finished: Cart 4, segue plate 2714 Cart 8, legacy plate 2643 Cart 6, legacy plate 2245 Cart 9, legacy plate 2142 Cart 3, legacy plate 1820 We got great signal on: Cart 1, segue plate 2409 Cart 2, segue plate 2559 (probably also finished... awaiting Brian Yanny's response) There were several aborts with the rotator when the instchange command was applied during closing. We were trying to change cartridges after we finished cart 3, but the rotator got stuck at 18 degrees. We ran into French and he said that Dan Long will check it out and exchange cartridges in the morning. We closed up and hooked up the dewer lines. Misc watcher errors in problem section. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: --------- The telescope has been checked and prepared for observations. All systems are functioning properly. The collimation is set for 3.0C. Kaike was working with adjustments of fiber and wavelength positions. Because there are X poisition and wavelength offsets among different cartridges, We try to find an optimal positions so that all cartridges will have X positions and wavelengths within spec. We first set up spectrograph with cartridge 3, then took postcals on some other carts: cart 1/pl2409, cart9/pl2142, cart 2/plate 2559 which will position spectra on extreme positions on CCD chips, to check if we can get spectra from all cartridge within spec. It turned out that we have 2050.5 for Xmax of r1 (from cartridge 2, 0.5 pixel out of spec), and 9924.2 for Wmax of r2 (from cartridge 2, out spec by 1 ang). So it looked like that out buget is very tight: less than 1 pixel to work with in X position, about 1 ang in wavelength. We had an interlock problem when we tried to change cartridge in the evening: We raised up the instrument lift to the place and unlatched the catridge but the cart refused to lower itself on. At the moment, the LED showed the cartridge at the lift, and the lift is up, but the interlock window from MCP showed the lift is not in the place (have instrument lift "up" in red). Then we re-latched the cartridge and lowered the instrument lift down, both the LED and interlock showed the lift is down correctly. Then we tried to dismounted the cartridge again, but as soon as the lift touch the cartridge, the interlock show red "up" again, unlactching cartridge, the lift refused to move. I ended up with swicthing to manu model. Now we are running in manu model. 00:30Z - Began ventilation. Doors and louvers open, fans on. Night: ------- Opened to clear, photometric skies.
