APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Thursday October 25, 2007 (MJD 54399) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Dan Oravetz Audrey Simmons Jon Brinkmann ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Spectro Monthly Checkout ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Spectro Monthly Checkout using cartridge 7: adjusted fiber positions in x and lambda (details in Problems section) focused the spectrograph collimation mirrors (details in Problems section) Arc 46921 is supposed to be a Hartmann with a 3.0s exposure time, but instead it shows up in SOS as having a 2.0s exposure time. We checked /data/spectro/54399/ for the exposure and checked the exposure time in the header and found that it is 2.0s in the header as well. Audrey has seen this happening during her dayshifts where the Hartmann exposures are sometimes 2.0s instead of 3.0s. Homed and Relaxed mirrors. All position errors were acceptable. Jon tested TCC and it seems to be working fine. The DA coordinates exactly tracked the telescope coordinates. (see email) ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- 23:55Z - Rebooted the astro crates and the photo crates (in response to the 'no resonse' critical alerts email) and took an imager doghouse bias (run 7098) to make sure everything is working, and it is. 22:26Z - The spectro biases that are declared 'bad' in SOS were taken before iack was run in sp1 and sp2; the spectrographs must have been power-cycled. 46909 is the bias that was taken after iack was issued in sp1 and sp2 and it is in spec. 22:30Z - Start positioning fibers left-to-right on the CCDs with cartridge 7. 22:50Z - Flats 46910, 46911, and 46913 both have x_sigma values in the red for r1 and r2. Flat 46911 shows the expected sp2 mechMoveColl of 2 pixels smaller. 23:00Z - Flat 46912 was taken before the FF lamps were switched on, so ignore this one. 23:44Z - Arcs have red w_sigma values for both r1 and r2. 00:00Z - Finished x-position and spectra positioning on the CCDs. Now we move to focusing the spectrograph collimation mirrors. 01:30Z - Adjusted the blue focusing rings for both sp1 and sp2. A follow-up goSpecFocus and collimate show everything to be well within focus. 05:10Z - Homed and Relaxed mirrors.
