APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday May 28, 2008 (MJD 54615) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Howard Brewington Kaike Pan Audrey Simmons (swing) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- High humidity, high dust, high wind. we did MSP, gain for g1 to g6, u5 - u6. The pressure of 180L spectro dewar: It seems that the deward can not hold the pressure. We found the pressure was low when during a forcing-fill at 03:30Z, and built it up. But it read 11 psi at 10:30Z. Can engineer crew check to see if there is leak on this dewar? ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- No problems during checkout. Spectro collimation set for ~10C tonight. Delayed ventilating because of high dust and high humidity. Mounted Cart 2, plate 2929. Night: ------ 03:30Z: We had high humidity and high dust count. The nearby lightning (65 km) prevent us from setup imager caliberation. 04:30Z: humidity dropped slightly, we forced fill the spectro so that we didn't need to fill it if we had chance to open soon. 05:25Z: Guest wind was up to 39 mph. We decided to set up for MSP. 05:50Z: run 7530, frame 1, bias 05:55Z: getGainCCD g 1, frame 2-13. Checked images and found that the chip was not evenly illuminated, it's offset from the center. We also found that there were 5 small spots on the images, look like that there are some contamination on the filter (?). The bias frames for this chip (g1) have account 1600 while bias frames for other chips are about 1100. 06:30Z: getGainCCD g 2, frame 14-25. For the dewar, we found only one spot (due to comtamination?), and illumination was better centered. 06:59Z: getGainCCD g 3, frame 26-37. 07:30Z: getGainCCD g 4, frame 38-49. small spots (much smaller than those on g1) are all over chips. 07:59Z: getGainCCD g 5, frame 50-62. After frame 56, We had a warning saying that we received flux too low even after retry. 08:30Z: getGainCCD g 6, frame 63-75. After frame 72, we had a warning, too low flux on photodiode, aflux=0. After frame 73, warning: we received flux too low even after retry. 09:00Z: Humidity dropped to 77%, and wind speed was about 33 mph. So, the weather conditions was good enough for us to open. However, even we shutdown MSP, go on the sky immediately, we could only obtained one exposure at the best. plus, seeing was bad at about 2.0 to 3.0" according to 3.5 mtelescope. We decide to continue on MSP. 09:01Z: getGainCCD u 6, frame 76-87. The illumination pattern is centered on the chip. 09:37Z: getGainCCD u 5. Frame 88-99. 10:12Z: getGainCCD u 4. Frame 100-104. Bad, kaike left enclosure light on. So we stoped the procedure. 10:25Z: run 7531, bias. 10:50Z endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7529 00:03Z 00:18Z 100 O -43.25 -39.44 40 ignore 7531 10:23Z 10:26Z 100 O 112.22 113.12 20 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 53056, plate -9999 ------- 00:06 53056 0.0 bias ----- sequence 53057, plate 2818 ------- 00:14 53057 10.0 flat 00:16 53058 2.0 arc 00:19 53059 3.0 arc 00:22 53060 3.0 arc 00:34 53061 3.0 arc 00:37 53062 3.0 arc ----- sequence 53064, plate 2929 ------- 01:37 53064 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 00:01Z 58 51 24 148 (SSE) 3971 - 00:31Z 57 50 16 131 (SE) 3801 - 01:03Z 55 52 13 99 (E) 3304 - 02:03Z 52 49 16 82 (E) 3158 - 02:35Z 53 49 16 87 (E) 3448 - 03:08Z 54 46 17 109 (ESE) 3144 - 03:40Z 51 48 20 109 (ESE) 3404 - 04:12Z 52 47 23 111 (ESE) 3426 - 04:44Z 53 45 28 123 (ESE) 3089 - 05:16Z 52 45 23 121 (ESE) 2777 - 05:48Z 52 45 27 146 (SE) 2532 - 06:20Z 51 45 23 135 (SE) 2531 - 06:53Z 51 45 29 125 (SE) 2429 - 07:25Z 51 44 21 140 (SE) 2338 - 07:57Z 51 44 22 147 (SSE) 2060 - 08:29Z 52 44 19 137 (SE) 1511 - 09:01Z 51 44 22 144 (SE) 1814 - 09:33Z 52 45 26 136 (SE) 1913 - 10:05Z 52 44 21 150 (SSE) 2076 - 10:38Z 51 46 21 151 (SSE) 2275 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Never open Status at: 11:00 Telescope stowed at: 30,121,00 mount Instrument mounted: Cartridge 1 Counterweights at: 250 lbs LN2 autofill systems: Connected and turned on. 180L LN2 dewar scales: Spectro 179 lbs, 14 psi Imager 189 lbs, 17.8 psi ---=== SOFTWARE USED ===--- IOP/SOP: v4_38_0 Watcher: v2_36_0 MCP: v6_4_0 TPM: tpm_v3_5_0 AstroDa: v15_13_1 TCC: TCC 2.7.2.1 August 6 2004 sdssProcedures: v2_40 SoS: v5_1_8 plate-mapper: v4_3_1 ---=== MIRROR NUMBERS ===--- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A 0.0200 0.0200 Axial B -0.0040 0.0000 Axial C -0.0230 -0.0230 Trans D 0.0010 0.0120 Lateral E 10.0711 10.0584 Lateral F 11.6332 11.6205 GALILS Commanded: 4600. -2000. 2650. -12450. -6500. -6550.
