APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday September 3, 2008 (MJD 54713) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Kaike Pan Elena Malanushenko Paul Harding (new guider) Jon Brinkmann (support) French Ledger (support) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Pointing model ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Bad weather got us again. Never open. Old Guider is return to its place. We adjusted the guider focus and did guider darks. SopMonitor has a problem to run on driver's Mac as it should run using 256 colors but the system does not allow it. Jon is in progress to help. EndCam is mounted and ready for pointing model observations. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- All systems have being checking and they are ok. EngCam has been mounted so no spectro focus has been checked. The focus should still be at about 12 C, there we left last night. Corrected balance as top was heavy; set ALT fiducial table; mirror numbers do not fit to previous values because of optical collimation was done last night. Old guider was back for this run. Night: ------- It was clouds and 100% humidity. We did not start ventilation and did not open. ~4:40Z. Cart 5, plate 3110 is mounted for guider test purposes. sop/SaoImage on driver's Mac cannot be run using 256 colors. It is not possible to use sop Monitor in this way. Jon is in progress of finding some new driver for X. We have made the focus adjustment for guider. We learn how to focus the guider. French suggested us to move telescope 121, 90, -90 to get good access to guider lens. We used FF lamp. We tried to use telescope laptop to check the frames but sos's saoImage is black & white, we could not see images. We have brought Kaike's Mac to enclosure and have used it for checking the frames. Step by step we adjusted the lens position to have it in focus now. Paul Harding helped us to examine the guider images and to set the good focus. Thank you very much to Paul for his help. We notes that some guider images did not appear in guiderMon. But they still use following numbers. We did not get the answer what was happened and completed the focusing. Tried to run "guiderDark 30 10" but it did not work. Some guider frames were ok, but some other did not get to sop and the sop procedure guiserDark stopped by timeout. We noted that tcc had error message: "could not open file: guider images:gimg0###.fits" when doing a gcam doread. We found out that some guider files were overwrite tonight and some are still from past observation in July. Thanks Steph's folklore message, we quick found the solution and reboot the guider Mac. It fixed the problem. We made two sets of guiderDark observations, 20 and 15 sec exposures per 10 frames. The first set is using for dark now. 10:20 Z. EngCam is mounted again. Guider Mac is rebooted. We checked the guider EngCam exposure and it was ok. We have had a message: VME Nodes: id1: status-inactive, run-7670, frame - 44: dsc W monInternal Monitor task internal problem: Running too long: 38 sec (dsc_W_monInternal Monitor task internal problem: Running too long: 38 sec : 2008-09-04 10:03:56Z ) We ran only one image test scan at the evening and do not know why it got to us ten hours late. We forced the teamster and it fixed the problem. endNight is finished. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- 7670 23:44Z 00:02Z 100 O 48.63 53.27 44 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- ----- sequence 54460, plate -9999 ------- 00:04 54460 0.0 bias ----- sequence 54461, plate -9999 ------- 04:40 54461 0.0 bias ----- sequence 54462, plate 3110 ------- 07:46 54462 0.0 bias 08:19 54463 0.0 bias 09:39 54464 10.0 flat 09:42 54465 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- 00:06Z engcam 1.00000 1 1257 0 121 30.0 11.4 1 280 08:31Z 5 3110 1.00000 1 1114 0 120 90.1 9.4 5 340 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- 00:16Z 53 51 1 308 (NW) 1978 - 00:48Z 54 51 5 299 (WNW) 1929 - 01:20Z 52 50 1 309 (NW) 1721 - 01:53Z 51 50 0 283 (WNW) 1904 - 02:25Z 51 50 1 318 (NW) 1946 - 02:57Z 50 50 3 337 (NNW) 1842 - 03:29Z 50 50 5 352 (NNW) 1883 - 04:01Z 50 50 5 327 (NNW) 1825 - 04:33Z 50 50 8 331 (NNW) 1923 - 05:05Z 50 50 3 341 (NNW) 1895 - 05:38Z 50 49 2 350 (NNW) 1894 - 06:10Z 50 48 0 286 (WNW) 1468 - 06:42Z 49 49 2 313 (NW) 1808 - 07:14Z 48 48 5 349 (NNW) 1649 - 07:46Z 50 45 1 265 (W) 1129 - 08:18Z 49 48 2 294 (WNW) 1615 - 08:50Z 49 49 6 324 (NW) 1828 - 09:20Z 48 49 4 355 (NNW) 1853 - 09:51Z 49 48 4 345 (NNW) 1642 - 10:22Z 49 48 5 357 (NNW) 1549 - 10:53Z 49 47 9 345 (NNW) 1578 - 11:24Z 49 47 5 353 (NNW) 1479 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- We did not open last night.
