APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Sunday July 5, 2009 (MJD 55018) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Elena Malanushenko Viktor Malanushenko Dan Long - technical support ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We ask to check the humidity sensors on both weather stations. It was strong rain ourside but both sencors show 50-70% humidity (we felt it was ~99%). The night has been lost for clouds and rain. There was telescope hardware problem as rotator did not move. It was the same problem as it was one week ago. We replaced the amplifyer modul and Dan Long adjusted rotator PID values. The new values are in telescope section. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: --------- Checked telescope. All systems work properly beside rotator did not move. Our diagnostic show the smae problem which happened on 06/27/09. We called to Dan Lond for help and assisted him while he was investigating the problem. No spectro bias and collimation as spectro is disconnected. 00:38Z - ThAr ON Night ====== It was rain, lightening, and thunderstorm, up to 6km from site. It was surprise us that during the strong rain on site both our weather stations shown 60-70% of humidity. We cannot begin observation because of weather problem and harware problem. Dan asked us to turn off all amlifiers but keep rotator's ampl on, turn off windbuffel, and stop buttons off, to investigate the rotator problem. He asked us to replace amplify modul for spare. Rotator return to work again and Dan desided to drive to site to adjust parameters to elliminate rotator vibration. The storm was moving away and we started to see some stars on sky. The clouds are still very strong that we could not get useful data, and telescope is not ready for observations either. 06:15Z ventilation. Dan Long visited site and adjusted PID values for rotator. The new rotator values are P=50, I=4, D=160. If we reboot MCP, we need to set whose values again. I suggest to keep them in telescope section of nightly log while we set a good place to keep them handy. 06:30Z - end telescope hardware problem. It was clouds and we could not get useful data. Keep ventilation and waiting the weather improving. 10:10Z We stopped ventilation because heavy clouds nearby with increasing of humidity. 10:12Z endNight finished ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 00:15Z 60 52 1 101 (E) 1063 - 00:47Z 62 44 0 65 (ENE) 455 - 01:20Z 61 45 5 259 (W) 491 - 01:51Z 59 49 6 227 (SW) 675 - 02:24Z 57 46 12 4 (N) 726 - 02:57Z 52 43 23 23 (NNE) 616 - 03:27Z 52 45 0 217 (SW) 771 - 03:58Z 53 42 12 105 (ESE) 916 - 04:30Z 53 44 7 353 (NNW) 727 - 05:15Z 59 42 8 317 (NW) 622 - 05:47Z 58 40 7 281 (W) 603 - 06:19Z 58 43 8 251 (WSW) 606 - 06:49Z 58 44 5 199 (SSW) 515 - 07:20Z 58 48 6 187 (S) 685 - 07:40Z 56 47 5 194 (SSW) 553 - 08:12Z 56 46 8 217 (SW) 594 - 08:45Z 55 50 10 208 (SSW) 602 - 09:15Z 55 48 7 185 (S) 630 - 09:46Z 55 49 6 201 (SSW) 644 - 10:17Z 53 48 2 194 (SSW) 593 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 06:15Z - ventilation 10:10Z - stop ventilation No interlocks bypassed.
