APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday March 23, 2010 (MJD 55279) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Kaike Pan Steph Snedden Paul Harding (working remotely) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- 23 Mar 2010 55279.0 0.56 02:39 11:39 07:42 16:43 BOSS 9.0 hours ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Clouds, a little precipitation and humidity. Never opened. Cartridge 3 can be put into service for the next MARVELS run. Thanks for your work, Paul. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: --------- No problems noted during checkout. Paul worked on the guider during the day and into the evening. About 50 nights worth of mcptpm files were compressed. Night: ----- Thick clouds at sunset and precipitation approaching. 04:00Z - Mix of rain and snow showers. 04:24Z - Paul informed us that cartridge 3 should now work with the guider. In his words the problem was "A thresholding issue, it found too many peaks because the threshold for finding fibers in the flat was too low because one of the large guide fibers was missing and also one of the normal guide fibers I had fixed it in my version, but then there was a later version that did not include my fix but did include Dustin's new fiber finding routines. There are no stars present on the old images on disk, 55227, but the code process the flat correctly and then tries to centroid on the noise in the sky." We continued to have scattered snow showers, fog and high humidity through the night. It was a night for paperwork. We will ask to have a BOSS cartridge sparse-plugged for the next cloudy night. 11:23Z - Shut everything off for the night. ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- 00:43Z 32 26 16 238 (WSW) 2676 - cloudy 01:13Z 32 26 18 246 (WSW) 2816 - ' 01:47Z 32 26 15 247 (WSW) 3124 - ' 02:21Z 32 27 12 220 (SW) 3180 - ' 02:55Z 32 27 7 218 (SW) 3435 - ' 03:29Z 32 28 14 213 (SSW) 3246 - ' 04:03Z 32 27 12 211 (SSW) 3049 - ' 04:33Z 31 27 15 205 (SSW) 2829 - ' 05:07Z 30 29 20 265 (W) 2813 - ' 05:41Z 30 30 12 265 (W) 2296 - ' 06:15Z 30 30 17 267 (W) 518 - ' 06:45Z 30 30 19 264 (W) 1516 - ' 07:15Z 29 29 19 264 (W) 6490 - ' 07:49Z 29 29 24 276 (W) 11353 - ' 08:24Z 29 29 22 272 (W) 14178 - ' 08:57Z 29 29 18 322 (NW) 9264 - ' 09:28Z 28 28 19 295 (WNW) 2529 - ' 09:58Z 27 27 14 329 (NNW) 1835 - ' 10:32Z 26 25 13 341 (NNW) 2026 - variably cloudy 11:05Z 25 23 16 351 (NNW) 2053 - ' ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Never ventilated. never opened.
