APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday August 24, 2001 (MJD 52146) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Scot Kleinman Jurek Krzesinski (http://hello.apo.nmsu.edu/~sjnk/pics/jurekyyo.jpg) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Passing clouds all night. Finished 4 plates and got some exposures on a 5th. Telescope stopped tracking once (same problem as last night). Mig E secondary Galil still misbehaving, but nothing major. Survived the dreaded UDP port bug. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Tonight, I'm risking driving from Landru with the new Xserver. Clouds and moon at start of night dictate spectroscopy. First up cart 2 plate 634. We started to setup before twlight was over, but could not as the clouds were blocking our stars. Clouds clearing around 22:50 - switch to cart 9 plate 639. We needed an fk5InFiber to get guide stars. Right after setting up on the field, the telesopce stopped tracking again. See Problems section below. While setting up, we ran into the UDP problem, but followed Pete's wonderful folklore description of how to get yourself out of it and did in only a few minutes! Thanks, Pete. Once started scienceing, we saw SoS complaining about unmatching exposure numbers. Once again to folklore.... Whie exposing (we hope this was kosher), we found the DA's number was higher than SOP's so we issued an incrExposureNumber in SOP and then they both agreed. Thanks to Eric for this folklore item!:> We got this plate done in 3 exposures and went on to cart 4 plate 378. We got two guide stars on the gotoField. Clouds covered our guide stars as soon as we finished the preCalibs. They went away a few minutes later and we proceeded. We got red monsters on two science exposures. Lights at the telescope looked OK, but we were backed up against Holloman...? Finished in 4 exposures. Next up cart 5 plate 654. We got all 11 guide stars on the gotoField! Finished in 3 exposures. Next up cart 6 late 658. Again, we got all 11 guide stars on the initial gotoField. We also finished this plate in 3 exposures. We continue to have axis E secondary Galil problems, although they do not appear to be affecting the data. Cart 3 plate 666 ( %;-} ) was next. Found one guide star on the gotoField. The rest were only a few" away. Clouds got a little thicker during this plate. We took one exposure in clouds - one in twilight. The second exposure was useless - the first has two spectrographs above 2.0. Landru once again survived the night - this time while driving. (I'm running fvwm2 on it for Observers who care.) endNight caused great rejoicing. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Stripe Flavor Lambda Last Begin End Frame Comments ------------------------------------------------------------------ 2510 100 O ignore 25.63 27.18 24 test bias 2511 100 O ignore 41.33 43.23 27 " 2512 100 O ignore 59.00 60.33 22 " ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot --------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot --------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 10679, plate -9999 ------- 22:52 10679 0.0 bias-init {{}} {{}} ----- sequence 10680, plate 639 ------- 05:10 10680 10.0 flat 05:12 10681 2.0 arc pre-flat 05:36 10683 900.0 target science 05:54 10684 900.0 target science 06:12 10685 901.0 target science 06:19 10686 240.0 smear {{Smear Pattern}} DONE ----- sequence 10687, plate 378 ------- 06:32 10687 10.0 flat pre-flat 06:34 10688 2.0 arc pre-arc 07:02 10689 900.0 target science 07:20 10690 901.0 target science 07:38 10691 900.0 target science 07:56 10692 901.0 target science 08:02 10693 240.0 smear {{Smear Pattern}} DONE ----- sequence 10694, plate 654 ------- 08:14 10694 10.0 flat pre-flat 08:16 10695 2.0 arc pre-arc 08:38 10696 900.0 target science 08:56 10697 900.0 target science 09:13 10698 901.0 target science 09:20 10699 240.0 smear {{Smear Pattern}} DONE ----- sequence 10700, plate 658 ------- 09:32 10700 10.0 flat pre-flat 09:34 10701 2.0 arc pre-arc 09:55 10702 901.0 target science 10:13 10703 901.0 target science 10:30 10704 901.0 target science 10:38 10705 240.0 smear {{Smear Pattern}} DONE ----- sequence 10706, plate 666 ------- 10:50 10706 10.0 flat pre-flat 10:52 10707 2.0 arc pre-arc 11:13 10708 901.0 target science 11:30 10709 900.0 target science 11:30 10709 900.0 target science 11:30 10709 900.0 target science DONE ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument getclock Az Alt Rot Scale ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 23:11 9:639 998716274 -0.000817 0.001690 0.000000 1.000000 00:44 4:378 998721886 -0.000174 0.003368 0.012705 1.000000 02:26 5:654 998727972 -0.000174 0.003368 0.012705 0.999920 03:42 6:658 998732554 -0.000240 0.002834 0.005206 0.999910 04:56 3:666 998736984 -0.000932 0.000876 0.025497 0.999950 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL4333 Stays: JL4334 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 23:20 9:639 1.00000 0 836 -350 18 48.6 18.7 3 185 gdr 1.3 00:53 4:378 1.00000 0 914 -250 18 55.8 18.8 5 208 gdr 1.5 02:27 5:654 0.99992 789 1551 -300 19 45.4 17.5 2 258 gdr 1.1 03:43 6:658 0.99991 888 1625 -300 2 47.3 18.1 4 222 gdr 1.5 05:05 3:666 0.99995 493 1396 -200 -6 48.0 16.6 8 160 gdr 2.0 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 16:49 75 35 14 212 (SSW) 304 - 17:21 75 34 9 296 (WNW) 315 - 17:52 73 34 2 255 (WSW) 321 - 18:24 72 35 6 266 (W) 340 - 18:56 68 35 5 266 (W) 341 - 19:29 66 36 4 279 (W) 388 - 20:02 66 36 5 275 (W) 441 - 20:34 65 36 7 319 (NW) 386 - 21:07 66 36 2 270 (W) 412 - 21:39 66 35 2 256 (WSW) 462 - 22:11 66 34 3 262 (W) 478 - 22:44 65 36 3 182 (S) 471 - 23:16 65 36 3 184 (S) 487 - 23:48 64 35 4 190 (S) 533 - 00:20 65 35 3 251 (WSW) 445 - 00:51 65 34 2 242 (WSW) 452 - 01:21 65 34 3 190 (S) 436 - 01:51 65 34 6 234 (SW) 428 - 02:22 63 34 2 260 (W) 478 - 02:56 64 35 5 261 (W) 758 - 03:27 64 35 5 238 (WSW) 726 - 03:59 63 35 3 224 (SW) 551 - 04:31 61 36 5 205 (SSW) 546 - 05:01 62 35 7 175 (S) 583 - 05:32 62 36 0 119 (ESE) 578 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Fan on, E door open, W door cracked: 18:15 Opened 19:30 Closed: ~05:30 Telescope in enclosure with cart 3 plate 666 mounted ---=== SOFTWARE USED ===--- IOP/SOP: v3_53_7 Watcher: v2_9_0 MCP: v5_3_1 TPM: v2_4_1 AstroDa: v14_36 TCC: 2.5.5 tccMon: v1_6 sdssProcedures: v1_22 ---=== MIRROR NUMBERS ===--- Time dpTemp dewPt Press TmpOut HumOut Windd Winds 17:16 70.6 34.2 21.61 26 200.3 9.2 21 PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A: 0.0720 0.0710 Axial B: -0.0880 -0.0980 Axial C: 0.0630 0.0610 Trans D: 4.1870 4.1800 Lateral E: 1.9335 1.9365 Lateral F: 0.4340 0.4370 GALILS Commanded: 5377. -3699. 923. -208. 31535. 30647.
