APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Monday September 10, 2001 (MJD 52163) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Mike Harvanek (swing) Steph Snedden Eric Neilsen ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science, following the strategies posted on the dark run plans web page. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Clouds and moon mandated spectroscopy. We lost over 4 hours to high humidity. Finished two plates. 18:00 - Blower on, doors cracked 19:15 - Opened enclosure 21:00 - Closed. Blower off, A/C, heater & mixer on. 01:35 - Opened. Blower on. 06:00 - Closed. Blower off. A/C on auto. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- At sunset, clouds were dissipating, but a few were still sticking around. That plus the fact that the wind had shifted to the east prompted us to start with spectroscopy. On going to our first plate (cartridge 2, plate 634), we found stars in every fiber. What is interesting about this is that we had last night's offsets still in memory. These offsets seem to be pretty consistent. Seeing was variable and during the first science exposure the clouds started to increase and the humidity to rise. We ended the second science exposure prematurely because of rising humidity. 21:00 - The humidity climbed too high and we closed. We shut off the blower & turned on the A/C, heater & mixer. 01:35 - Humidity back down. Opened back up with cartridge 7, plate 661. Again, we acquired stars right away in all fibers. This plate was declared done in 4 exposures. We note that we are still getting error messages from the TCC about E not stopping on a full step. See the problems section. 03:45 - Cartridge 4, plate 667. Stars in 3 fibers right away. Declared done in four 15 min. exposures. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Stripe Flavor Lambda Last Begin End Frame Comments ------------------------------------------------------------------ N/A ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- N/A ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot --------------------------------------------------------------- N/A ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot --------------------------------------------------------------- N/A ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 10870, plate 672 ------- 01:50 10870 0.0 bias {{}} ----- sequence 10871, plate 634 ------- 02:25 10871 10.0 flat pre-flat 02:27 10872 2.0 arc pre-arc 02:50 10873 901.0 target science the following exposure ended early (endStare) Humidity too high 03:01 10874 900.0 target science ----- sequence 10875, plate 661 ------- 08:04 10875 10.0 flat pre-flat 08:06 10876 2.0 arc pre-arc 08:24 10877 900.0 target science 08:42 10878 900.0 target science 09:05 10879 1200.0 target science 09:23 10880 901.0 target science 09:30 10881 240.0 smear {{Smear Pattern}} 09:34 10882 10.0 flat post-flat 09:36 10883 2.0 arc post-arc (S/N^2)=19.7 22.9 16.1 23.1 ----- sequence 10884, plate 667 ------- 10:01 10884 10.0 flat pre-flat 10:04 10885 2.0 arc pre-arc 10:24 10886 901.0 target science 10:41 10887 901.0 target science 10:59 10888 900.0 target science 11:17 10889 901.0 target science 11:24 10890 240.0 smear {{Smear Pattern}} 11:27 10891 10.0 flat post-flat 11:29 10892 2.0 arc post-arc (S/N^2)=14.6 17.4 13.2 14.8 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument getclock Az Alt Rot Scale ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 22:42 2 634 1000183327 0.004296 -0.001086 0.011938 0.999880 02:12 7 661 1000195926 0.004296 -0.001086 0.011938 0.999970 04:07 4 667 1000202844 0.004296 -0.001086 0.011938 0.999850 04:22 4 667 1000203746 0.004296 -0.001086 0.011938 0.999810 ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL4400 Stays: JL4401 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 20:34 2 634 0.99995 493 1662 50 39 43.6 10.6 15 124 - 1.9 21:00 2 634 0.99988 1184 2223 50 30 46.8 10.4 18 126 - 1.9 02:11 7 661 0.99997 296 1366 -75 20 45.6 10.3 14 126 - 1.7 02:40 7 661 0.99997 296 1361 -75 9 47.2 10.3 11 126 - 1.8 03:11 7 661 0.99997 296 1359 -75 -2 47.6 10.6 6 108 - 2.3 04:12 4 667 0.99985 1480 2249 -165 -8 47.9 11.5 6 04 - 1.5 04:22 4 667 0.99981 1875 2567 -175 -11 47.6 11.5 4 105 - 1.45 04:50 4 667 0.99981 1875 2572 -175 -21 46.0 11.4 5 103 - 1.6 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 17:11 61 40 10 189 (S) 395 - mcl 17:43 60 41 1 125 (SE) 517 - mcl 18:24 56 41 5 143 (SE) 628 - pcl 18:54 54 39 13 132 (SE) 579 - pcl 19:26 52 42 14 131 (SE) 568 - pcl 19:56 51 43 15 131 (SE) 567 - pcl 20:28 51 44 13 120 (ESE) 465 - pcl 21:00 50 44 18 125 (SE) 473 - mcl 21:33 50 45 16 123 (ESE) 494 - mcl 22:05 49 45 9 101 (E) 445 - mcl 22:37 49 46 9 85 (E) 424 - mcl 23:09 49 45 7 103 (ESE) 456 - mcl 23:41 49 44 10 109 (ESE) 430 - pcl 00:14 50 43 10 114 (ESE) 392 - pcl 00:46 49 42 15 125 (SE) 293 - pcl 01:18 49 40 14 125 (SE) 342 - pcl 01:48 50 36 10 126 (SE) 355 - pcl 02:18 50 34 13 126 (SE) 354 - pcl 02:51 51 36 6 108 (ESE) 316 - pcl 03:24 51 36 5 103 (ESE) 311 - pcl 03:56 51 37 5 106 (ESE) 370 - pcl 04:28 52 36 5 104 (ESE) 331 - pcl 05:00 52 36 5 101 (E) 332 - pcl 05:30 51 35 6 105 (ESE) 337 - pcl 06:01 50 37 0 262 (W) 292 - pcl ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Stowed at 30 deg. alt.
