APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday September 22, 2001 (MJD 52175) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- night: Jurek Krzesinski & Atsuko Nitta Kleinman ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Imaging and Spectroscopy ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Afterrnoon telescope and DA checkout ok. No problems with flat field screens (thank you Carlos). Full step error - again now and during the night - all ignored. Telescope closed during the night due to the weather and reopened after a few hours. plates NOT done: cart 2 plt 636 three exposures done (900,1800,1800 sec) cart 9 plt 679 two exposures done (1200,1200 sec) one plate DONE: cart 3 plt 708 done with 5 exposures (all 1200 sec) + two exposures from previous nights. We have no problems tonight with the telescope neither with software !!! Short Pointing Test (suggested on the Science Plan Web page) done at the end of the night. Unfortunately we had to apply A:15'' offset in all cases to see stars in fibers - sorry. (see the log). ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- 17:50 Afternoon telescope and DA checkout ok. 18:05 full step error - again now and during the night - all ignored. 0 0 I Received=''?GOCORR one or more axes did not end on a full step 0, 0, 0, 0, 1'' 0 0 W Text=''failed to adjust collimation and focus'' but we ignored it. 18:40 telescope ready to open with cart 2 plt 636 mounted, but rainy clouds and lightening dictate so we stayed closed. 20:40 telescope opened, fans on. Refilling spectro dewars. 21:05 going to field (cart 2 plt 636) - stars found with no problem with yesterday's offsets. The seeing is awfull, and varies between 2.3-3.5''. We've got all possible warnings for this plate from SoS: Scattered light, Whopping fiber(s), Large flexure flat, Red Monster So, we did postcalib, but no smearing since it's not photometric - plate is not done. Used int times: 900,1800,1800. 23:02 Cart 9 plt 679 (sec priority) on the telescope. Stars found wih DEC=-5 offset. Two exposures done (both int time: 1200 sec). The third aborted due to the lightning and appraoching clouds. Note: something is rattling inside the cart 9 - please check it (PR was filed). 00:36 Telescope closed. 01:00 Raining. 02:45 Opened again with cart 3 plt 708 mounted (this cart had already two exposition done). Since there is no clouds at this time, we do smear, and postcalib (suggested by SoS). 05:10 cart 3 plt 708 declared done (int times: 1200,1200,1200,1200,1200 sec). 06:00 telescope closed, cart 2 plt 636 mounted. endNight went with no problems. ============================ TEST ============================= 05:20 pointing test, from the Science Plan Page: 1. Telescope was moved to 121, 30, 0 position, offsets cleared. 2. GotoField, can we find stars? ; gcam 15 - no stars. 3. A:15'' offset applied ; gcam15 - and stars were found. 4. Offests cleared. Telescope sent to 121, 30, 0 position. 5. at tcc prompt $ telstop then $ telrun 6. sp1> tccClose sp1> startDa -tcc 7. telrun> set inst=spectro 8. telrun> set foc=-200 (the value before telstop) 9. gotoField ; gcam 15 - and ... no stars 10.A:15'' offset applied ; gcam 15 - stars showed up. So we follow the next instruction steps: 11. Telescope moved to 121,30, 0 position. 12. MCP rebooted (ctr+X from MCP menu) 13. iop> miack 14. telescope was fiducialized 15. gotoField ; gcam 15 - and ... no stars 16. A:15'' applied ; gcam 15 - stars showed up. it seems to us, that the problem is still not solved :( ================================================================== ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Stripe Flavor Lambda Last Begin End Frame Comments ------------------------------------------------------------------ 2594 100 O ignore 69.01 114.12 48 ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot --------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot --------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment =============================================== ----- sequence 10993, plate -9999 ------- 23:53 10993 0.0 bias {{}} ----- sequence 10994, plate 636 ------- 03:21 10994 10.0 flat pre-flat 03:23 10995 2.0 arc pre-arc 03:43 10996 901.0 target science 04:16 10997 1801.0 target science 04:50 10998 1800.0 target science 04:53 10999 10.0 flat post-flat 04:55 11000 2.0 arc post-arc ----- sequence 11001, plate 679 ------- 05:21 11001 10.0 flat pre-flat 05:23 11002 2.0 arc pre-arc 05:49 11003 1201.0 target science 06:12 11004 1200.0 target science ----- sequence 11005, plate 708 ------- 09:01 11005 10.0 flat science pre-flat 09:03 11006 2.0 arc pre-arc 09:32 11007 1200.0 target science 09:55 11008 1201.0 target science 10:18 11009 1200.0 target science 10:40 11010 1200.0 target science 11:03 11011 1200.0 target science 11:10 11012 240.0 smear {{Smear Pattern}} 11:14 11013 10.0 flat post-flat 11:16 11014 2.0 arc post-arc Plate 636 was observed in sequence(s) 10994 for a total of 4502 seconds Plate 679 was observed in sequence(s) 11001 for a total of 2401 seconds Plate 708 was observed in sequence(s) 11005 for a total of 6001 seconds ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument getclock Az Alt Rot Scale ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 21:14 2 636 1001214883 0.006290 0.001622 0.011150 0.999860 22:36 2 636 1001219792 0.006290 0.001622 0.011150 0.999820 23:29 9 679 1001222998 0.006192 -0.000130 0.028785 1.000130 03:12 3 708 1001236347 0.005207 -0.000848 0.024983 1.000050 03:41 3 708 1001238114 0.005207 -0.000848 0.024983 1.000000 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL4483 Stays: JL4484 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 21:19 2 636 0.99986 1381 2325 0 12 50.2 11.2 17 71 - 3.0 23:28 9 679 1.00013 -1283 1 -100 19 55.8 11.8 10 80 - 2.4 23:56 9 679 1.00013 -1283 -52 -150 6 57.0 12.9 8 68 - 2.3 03:13 3 708 1.00005 -493 654 -100 16 56.2 9.1 8 1 - 3.3 03:42 3 708 1.00000 0 960 -200 3 57.2 11.6 12 356 - 2.8 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 17:40 60 36 4 272 (W) 250 - 18:11 58 37 0 255 (WSW) 270 - 18:42 58 40 3 332 (NNW) 380 - 19:12 56 42 7 10 (N) 343 - 19:44 57 40 13 35 (NE) 283 - 20:15 53 39 16 72 (ENE) 288 - 20:47 52 38 16 68 (ENE) 180 - 21:18 52 38 17 70 (ENE) 277 - 21:49 51 39 16 77 (ENE) 225 - 22:21 51 37 15 74 (ENE) 193 - 22:53 52 36 14 74 (ENE) 231 - 23:24 52 36 10 79 (E) 180 - 23:54 55 33 9 61 (ENE) 180 - 00:26 55 32 9 79 (E) 204 - 00:58 54 32 13 47 (NE) 181 - 01:30 46 39 28 62 (ENE) 191 - 02:02 46 38 19 79 (E) 147 - 02:34 52 32 16 35 (NE) 167 - 03:07 48 36 12 27 (NNE) 216 - 03:37 54 29 11 356 (NNW) 208 - 04:08 54 32 6 32 (NNE) 195 - 04:40 48 35 11 13 (NNE) 251 - 05:11 51 36 9 21 (NNE) 233 - 05:41 54 31 13 20 (NNE) 205 - 06:12 54 30 13 31 (NNE) 201 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 20:40 open, fans on, cart 2 plt 636 mounted. 00:36 closed -lighetning and comming rain. 02:40 opened again with cart 3 plt 708 mounted. 06:00 telescope stowed, cart 2 plt 636 mounted ---=== SOFTWARE USED ===--- IOP/SOP: v3_56_9 Watcher: v2_10_0 MCP: v5_4_3 TPM: v2_3_7 AstroDa: v14_36 TCC: 2.5.5 sdssProcedures 1._29 ---=== MIRROR NUMBERS ===--- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 GALILS Commanded: 5400. -3700. 900. -200. 31550. 30650.
