APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Monday January 21, 2002 (MJD 52296) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Pete Newman Mike Harvanek Eric Neilsen ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Tonight was an annoying night of borderline conditions, and we opened and closed twice. We finished off one already started plate, and completed one more. Two other plates got some data, but not enough to finish them. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- The far left monitor on landru died; we replace it with the one from monx2. We begin with Cartridge 1, plate 803, one of the photo-Z plates. Seeing is good, and we get guide stars in the fibers right away. We are done with set up and pre calibs 4 minutes before Steve's tool says the plate will be ready (right at the end of twilight), and we go ahead and start taking science. After a number of exposures on cartridge 1, se switge to cartridge 7. By the time we finish the switch, the clouds have worstened, and we close. At 0545Z, the clouds have cleared up enough to open. We open, and switch to cartridge 3. At 0610Z (23:10:44 MST), we get a whole slew of bad PVT errors showing up in the murmur log, and a max aceleration warning on the rotator from the watcher. We get the one exposure we need to finish cartridge 3, and close again due to clouds and rain approaching from El Paso. We open again at 1110Z, and begin with cartridge 8 (plate 560). We finish it, and get a We get a couple of exposures on cartridge 5 before closing for twilight. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Stripe Flavor Lambda Last Begin End Frame Comments ------------------------------------------------------------------ 2896 100 O ignore 164.68 172.17 56 ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot --------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot --------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 12807, plate -9999 ------- 23:27 12807 0.0 bias ----- sequence 12808, plate 803 ------- 01:30 12808 10.0 flat 01:32 12809 2.0 arc 02:00 12810 1201.0 target 0.2 0.3 0.1 4.1 Started 4 minutes before official begin of plate 02:22 12811 1200.0 target 0.3 0.4 0.1 1.4 02:45 12812 1200.0 target 2.8 2.5 5.1 6.0 03:07 12813 1200.0 target 1.5 1.7 3.4 4.2 03:10 12814 10.0 flat 03:12 12815 2.0 arc 03:35 12816 1201.0 target 0.1 0.5 0.9 1.3 03:45 12817 1200.0 target 0.2 0.3 0.2 1.2 03:52 12818 240.0 smear 03:55 12819 10.0 flat 03:57 12820 2.0 arc ----- sequence 12821, plate 829 ------- 06:13 12821 10.0 flat 06:15 12822 2.0 arc 06:41 12823 1203.0 target 7.8 4.4 6.4 5.1 06:47 12824 240.0 smear ----- sequence 12825, plate 560 ------- 10:45 12825 10.0 flat 10:47 12826 2.0 arc 11:05 12827 901.0 target 8.8 5.7 8.1 5.7 11:22 12828 901.0 target 9.3 5.8 8.4 6.2 11:40 12829 900.0 target 8.3 5.5 7.4 5.5 11:47 12830 240.0 smear ----- sequence 12831, plate 526 ------- 12:06 12831 10.0 flat 12:09 12832 2.0 arc 12:27 12833 900.0 target 7.4 4.4 6.4 5.1 12:45 12834 901.0 target 12:51 12835 240.0 smear ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument getclock Az Alt Rot Scale ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 18:27 1 803 1011662833 0.005233 0.001008 0.003666 1.000030 03:43 8 560 1011696189 0.000526 0.002740 -0.025234 1.000090 05:04 5 526 1011701048 0.004558 0.000094 -0.012537 1.000090 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL4961 Stays: JL4962 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 18:26 1 803 1.00003 -296 919 0 19 55.7 1.2 8 247 1.5 23:07 7 829 1.00003 -296 813 -75 118 69.3 1.4 16 253 1.4 03:42 8 560 1.00009 -888 440 25 199 60.5 -0.1 16 264 1.5 05:04 5 526 1.00009 -888 468 50 6 59.3 -0.8 15 264 1.5 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 15:41 43 -3 6 235 (SW) 164 - partly cloudy 16:14 41 -5 7 294 (WNW) 135 - partly cloudy 16:46 39 -5 6 297 (WNW) 136 - partly cloudy 17:18 37 -1 8 261 (W) 8 - partly cloudy 17:50 37 -1 8 267 (W) 7 - mostly cloudy 18:21 34 -1 5 257 (WSW) 63 - mostly cloudy 18:54 35 -4 7 239 (WSW) 88 - mostly cloudy 19:27 34 -10 9 210 (SSW) 185 - mostly cloudy 19:59 34 -13 11 206 (SSW) 186 - partly cloudy 20:29 34 -16 13 224 (SW) 163 - partly cloudy 21:00 35 -19 14 237 (WSW) 123 - mostly cloudy 21:32 34 -16 14 216 (SW) 78 - partly cloudy 22:04 34 -16 15 250 (WSW) 57 - mostly cloudy 22:36 33 -16 15 240 (WSW) 84 - mostly cloudy 23:07 34 -10 14 263 (W) 103 - almost clear 23:37 34 -8 17 254 (WSW) 135 - partly cloudy 00:09 34 -3 18 266 (W) 124 - mostly cloudy 00:41 33 -1 18 264 (W) 174 - mostly cloudy 01:13 33 0 19 232 (SW) 214 - mostly cloudy 01:45 33 4 18 258 (WSW) 201 - mostly cloudy 02:18 33 5 14 266 (W) 267 - mostly cloudy 02:50 32 3 12 266 (W) 252 - partly cloudy 03:22 31 3 15 271 (W) 289 - partly cloudy 03:55 31 4 16 260 (W) 286 - partly cloudy 04:27 31 5 13 261 (W) 311 - clear 04:59 31 5 14 263 (W) 308 - clear 05:30 30 5 15 262 (W) 306 - clear 06:00 31 5 21 266 (W) 262 - clear ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Stowed at home, Cartridge 5 on telescope.
