Thin cirruses - so, ... spectroscopy ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Smooth night, 7 plates done: cart plate 1 794 3 836 4 887 5 842 6 773 7 851 9 943 1 minor problem with transfering frames (teamster transfered arc 114468 at 7:08Z instead somewhere close to 6:30Z - fortunately we didn't loose science time because of that). Possible smear problem -see log or problem section. When everything goes smoothly (stars on slew, no harware/software problems), our efficiency increases quite a lot! Last days, the mean setting up times calculated from issuing instChange to spectroScience commands were: MJD plates done 18 minutes 52374 6 18 minutes 52375 6 ! 15 minutes 52376 7 (usually our average setting up time is 25 minutes...) ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon checkout: ------------------- During afternoon checkout it was noted that the Hg-Cd lamp in the upper left quadrant when looking at the flatfield screens from the back of the telescope, (which I believe corresponds to counterweight #3), was taking longer to reach full intensity. It took approximately 20 sec to brighten (I didn't time it...that's just an estimate). After the daily sdsshost reboot, the murmur server did not come up automatically. I had to start it up using cleanupMurmur. I did the reboot at about the same time that the servers automatically restart. I wonder if this caused the problem. The rest of afternoon checkout went without incident. Observations: ------------- 02:05Z cart 9 plt 943 - stars on slew - waiting for the darker sky. Done with three exposures. 03:55Z cart 3 plt 836 - stars on slew (at a fiber edge) -done with three. 05:10Z cart 5 plt 842 - stars on slew, done with three. 06:25Z cart 6 plt 773 - stars on slew, SoS way behind - reason: theamster didn't transfer frames for almost 40 minutes and did not complain! (arc 114468 was transfered at 7:08Z instead somewhere close to 6:30Z). 07:35Z cart 7 plt 851 - stars on slew, done with three exposures. 08:45Z cart 4 plt 887 - stars on slew, done with three. Possible problem on smearing: Second guider image from smear gimg0196.fits showed offset dots rather than streaks.
