Four plates finished (949, 912, 974, 979) and usable data obtained for another plate (978). All xsigma and wsigma values were in the black. No major problems tonight. We are running out of plates. If new plates are not available, it may be necessary to declare some plates undone in a few days time. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Day Activities: --------------- From Atsuko: Spectro Focus - We found that sp1 red and sp2 blue were out today. We are not quite sure what is going on. The spectro focus are checked when the temperature is 15-16C. Atsuko focused the spectros on spectroMonthlyCheckout night (May 28). Then it was checked on the afternoon of May31 and the focus (both red cameras) needed adjusted. This afternoon, the spectro focus checked and sp1 red and sp2 blue needed adjustments. See Problems section for details (sorry Robert). Night Activities: ----------------- Clear at sunset but clouds to the west so we start with spectroscopy. Plate 949 (cartridge 7): Guide stars on the gotoField. One of the flat field petal sensors indicated it was not closed during the preCalib (see Problems section). Visual inspection showed them all to be closed. Opening and closing the screens again fixed the problem. Finished in 3 exposures. Exposure number 15409 had the wrong exposure time. It should have been 900 s and was fixed with APOFIX. Clouds to the west had finally dissipated but seeing was not good enough to switch to imaging. Plate 912 (cartridge 6): Guide stars on the gotoField. Exposure number 15414 had the wrong exposure time. It should have been 900 s and was fixed with APOFIX. Finished in 3 exposures. Saw the following error message in a sop window: sp1> Failed to chmod /data/spectro/52427/guider/gimg0693.fits /data/spectro/52427/guider/gimg0693.fits: Operation not permitted Not sure if this is a problem or not. Plate 974 (cartridge 3): Guide stars on the gotoField (barely). After the 3rd science exposure, work stopped for about 20 minutes while we waited for the zenith avoidance zone to pass. Finished in 4 exposures. Plate 979 (cartridge 4): Guide stars on the gotoField. When combined with previous data (52426), this plate was finished in 3 exposures. The request for postCals came after we had swapped cartridges. Plate 978 (cartridge 9): Guide stars on the gotoField. Two good exposures obtained before the sky became too bright. SoS did not like the smear even though it was taken in photometric conditions before twilight began. All xsigma and wsigma values were in the black tonight.
