APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Monday September 16, 2002 (MJD 52534) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Eric Neilsen Steph Snedden Scot Kleinman Visitors: Bill Boroski ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Shake! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Some shake, some clouds. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- We begin by tagging and installing IOP v3_83_0. At the end of the night, v3_84_0 was installed as test. PR 3825 - logTool should report versions of mapper, SoS, hoggpt. Closed. The versions are reported correctly. Furthermore, if a public key or known_host is not properly set up, you get feedback to correct this and it does not affect the performance of logTool. We try running Connie's new checkBias command on our beginning of the night doghouse bias, and got the following output: im> checkBias 3346 20 /home/neilsen/bias -doghouse ...(apparently appropriate output)... Error: your IOP_DIR/params/biasnom directory does not exist! I believe this is due to the new directry (biasnom) not getting added properly to CVS. The files in it look like they are there, but the directory itself is not. I will try and fix this later. We begin the night doing spectroscopy, putting SOP through all its motions to make sure the cleaned up SOP mechSend fixes work appropriately. They seem to. Check of SopGUI changes: gflat: After going to a field, the -gflat button deactivates. If you then click on instChange and go, the button reactivates. Works correctly. guiderDataWindow button: It is now aligned with the other buttons that pop up new windows. scaleChange message: modified, but has a minor typo in it. The correction to the typo was made, but not checked in. I then take data so simulate a Hartmann focus sequence. (The MCP commands to control the flat field screens have not yet been updated to make it possible to run the Hartmann sequence for real.) Table of test data for Hartmann focus: change angle exp1 exp2 2 112.5 105 106 3.5 112.5 107 108 3.5 22.5 109 110 2 22.5 113 114 2 82.5 115 116 3.5 82.5 117 118 1 112.5 122 123 1 82.5 124 125 1 22.5 126 127 There do seem to be some problems in the code that derives the focus offset from the measurements. The simulated data collected should let this be tested and debugged at Fermilab. PR 1296 - Fix autostretch code so you can see better. Changed to feedback and discuss: The stretch is good for biases. It is probably good for science scans as well, but it was tested under very bad conditions - clouds & poor seeing. Also, we should discuss whether or not auto stretch should be the default mode when issuing a goDrift. PR 4184 - TPM: Same M1 temperature sensor displayed twice. Closed. tpm_TM_M0B0Chans.VALP is read for the central upper right widget on the M1 back plate. This is the correct sensor. PR 2698 - DA banner info should make its way into the file headers. Assigned back to Eric. Most of the scrolling display DA info gets into the headers just fine, but the values for the sky level keywords read 0 in the frames tested. PR 4185 - CCD56 bias levels out of tolerance Closed. No bias level errors noticed with the new astroline.config during bias drifts. We put on the imager just as clouds start arriving. Watching astroline trying to deal with the moonlit clouds in the new more sensative scaling is entertaining. I think I will actually ship these tapes. If we ever need to stress test new DA sky determination code, run 3348 will be a good test. We tested the IOP routine doM31 on the M33 N strip. After fixing a syntax error, the command appeared to work, and we drifted somewhere...but it was too cloudy to actually see M33. It should be tested again under better conditions. The clouds got worse, and the dewpoint depression shrank. We closed. We checked the SDSS procedures changes. All were present and accounted for. endNight was running as we mailed this. This is my last night here as an SDSS observer. Thank you to all of you here at APO; seeing and working with you has been someting I have looked forward to each time I came down. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3346 23:45Z 23:53Z 100 O 61.20 63.28 28 ignore 3347 07:27Z 07:30Z 100 O -182.81 -182.16 18 ignore 3348 07:37Z 08:22Z 100 O -180.35 -169.19 88 engineering not photometric not even slightly 3349 09:02Z 09:42Z 100 O -158.99 -149.00 38 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 16389, plate -9999 ------- 00:18 16389 0.0 bias 00:26 16390 0.0 bias ----- sequence 16391, plate 1026 ------- 02:28 16391 10.0 flat 02:30 16392 2.0 arc 02:57 16393 0.0 target ----- sequence 16391, plate 1026 ------- 03:10 16394 240.0 smear 03:14 16395 58.0 target ----- sequence 16396, plate 678 ------- 04:49 16396 10.0 flat 04:52 16397 2.0 arc 05:18 16398 0.0 target 05:46 16399 0.0 target 06:14 16400 0.0 target 06:22 16401 240.0 smear 06:26 16402 10.0 flat 06:28 16403 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 05:14Z 8 678 31.38 0.0039 52.92 -0.0030 205.92 -0.0157 1.000180 05:14Z 8 678 31.36 0.0039 52.93 -0.0030 205.90 -0.0157 1.000180 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL5526, 5504 - 5509 Stays: JL5527, 5510 - 5515 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 05:14Z 8 678 1.00018 -1776 -549 -250 31 52.9 10.8 10 251 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:45Z 61 43 6 207 (SSW) 105 - 23:34Z 56 39 8 229 (SW) 80 - 00:06Z 56 40 7 231 (SW) 113 - 00:39Z 55 41 11 242 (WSW) 111 - 01:11Z 50 41 7 251 (WSW) 130 - 01:43Z 49 41 5 217 (SW) 140 - 02:14Z 50 40 5 205 (SSW) 147 - 02:47Z 50 40 6 193 (SSW) 161 - 03:18Z 51 39 7 195 (SSW) 199 - 03:51Z 52 39 7 226 (SW) 199 - 04:24Z 51 39 9 218 (SW) 199 - 04:57Z 51 41 15 238 (WSW) 176 - 05:30Z 51 41 11 240 (WSW) 198 - 06:01Z 52 41 11 245 (WSW) 224 - 06:33Z 52 42 13 242 (WSW) 305 - 07:05Z 52 42 13 237 (WSW) 338 - 07:37Z 52 42 12 247 (WSW) 293 - 08:09Z 52 42 14 237 (WSW) 219 - 08:42Z 52 42 14 243 (WSW) 251 - 09:14Z 51 42 11 236 (SW) 211 - 09:46Z 51 43 14 232 (SW) 189 - 10:19Z 50 44 11 242 (WSW) 210 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Telescope stowed at 30 degrees, autofill connected.
