APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday November 26, 2002 (MJD 52605) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Dan Long Jurek Krzesinski Mike Harvanek ( swing ) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Weather kept us closed most of the first half. Once we opened bright moon and poor seeing made for slow going. However we got data on two plates and finished one of them ( 897 ). ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- While we waited on clouds and humidity PR 4385 was tested and closed. No unkown mnemonic messages seen in the murmur log. Note that starting with tonight we are running with the slip detection interlocks active. See telescope folklore for details on what to do if you get an abort due to a slip. There is a problem with logTool which causes it to stop recording new events in the various tables. When loadCartridge is issued an error is returned. expected integer but got "iop_I_loadingCartridge" ftclParseArg: Invalid integer value USAGE: setCartridgeForLog -help See problem section for traceback and other details. PR 4468 filed. After a roughly 5 hour wait on clouds and humidity we opened and proceeded with spectroscopy. Cartridge 2 1068 Guide stars on slew Not quite done in three 20 minute exposures. Three of the CCDs registered less than 14 and SoS complained about the smear as well. So this plate was not declared done despite have 13 or greater in all CCDS. Efficiency meter appears to be correct now, or at least closer than it was. 897 Cartridge 3 897 No stars on slew. Needed FK5. Off by nearly 10 arcseconds. Variable but generally poor seeing. That combined with fairly bright moon made for slow going on this plate. 25 minute exposures were needed to keep signal above the lower threshold in all CCDs. Every once in a great while SOP puts up an error message saying it cannot chmod a guider image. It doesn't seem to cause any problems, but why does this occasionally happen? ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 17117, plate -9999 ------- 21:44 17117 0.0 bias {{}} ----- sequence 17118, plate 677 ------- 22:28 17118 10.0 flat 22:34 17119 2.0 arc ----- sequence 17120, plate -9999 ------- 23:49 17120 0.0 bias 00:03 17121 0.0 bias ----- sequence 17122, plate 677 ------- 01:16 17122 10.0 flat pre-flat 01:19 17123 2.0 arc pre-arc 01:26 17124 90.1 target science ----- sequence 17128, plate 1068 ------- 13.7 13.2 13.3 17.5 06:38 17128 10.0 flat 06:41 17129 2.0 arc 07:08 17130 1200.1 target 07:34 17131 1200.1 target 07:57 17132 1200.1 target 08:05 17133 240.0 smear ----- sequence 17134, plate 897 ------- 22.9 29.2 18.3 13.3 08:29 17134 10.0 flat 08:32 17135 2.0 arc 09:05 17136 1500.1 target 09:32 17137 1500.1 target 10:01 17138 1500.1 target 10:29 17139 1500.1 target 10:52 17140 1200.1 target 10:59 17141 240.0 smear 11:34 17142 1800.1 target 11:37 17143 10.0 flat 11:40 17144 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 06:49Z 2 0 -31.89 0.0023 52.81 0.0010 153.56 -0.0064 0.999900 08:43Z 3 0 122.36 0.0004 54.97 -0.0033 -85.37 0.0000 1.000310 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL5754 Stays: JL5755 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 06:50Z 2 1068 0.99990 986 1890 -100 -32 52.7 -1.6 6 180 - 1.9 07:52Z 2 1068 0.99996 395 1578 50 -52 43.9 -2.3 7 135 - 2.0 08:43Z 3 897 1.00031 -3060 -1368 0 122 55.0 -2.5 3 128 - 3.5 10:34Z 3 897 1.00021 -2073 -720 -130 140 73.4 -1.3 7 180 - 2.2 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:29Z 29 26 3 182 (S) 395 - Cloudy 22:59Z 26 26 0 138 (SE) 7772 - Fog 23:30Z 24 21 13 76 (ENE) 365 - Cloudy 00:03Z 23 21 1 148 (SSE) 638 - Cloudy 01:01Z 21 19 5 125 (SE) 505 - Cloudy 02:01Z 25 20 3 231 (SW) 501 - Cloudy 03:01Z 23 22 3 175 (S) 20174 - Fog 04:01Z 29 22 1 147 (SSE) 654 - Cloudy 05:01Z 31 22 0 311 (NW) 633 - Partly Cloudy 06:01Z 30 22 1 214 (SW) 638 - Mostly Clear 07:01Z 28 23 3 171 (S) 594 - Mostly Clear 07:22Z 27 21 9 127 (SE) 646 - Mostly Clear 07:54Z 27 21 6 133 (SE) 634 - Clear 08:26Z 27 21 1 155 (SSE) 650 - Clear 08:57Z 28 22 0 169 (S) 582 - Clear 09:27Z 28 22 5 180 (S) 564 - Clear 09:59Z 30 23 4 177 (S) 515 - Clear 10:31Z 29 23 7 180 (S) 316 - Clear 11:03Z 29 22 7 180 (S) 355 - Clear 11:36Z 30 22 6 174 (S) 353 - Clear 12:08Z 28 23 7 167 (SSE) 376 - Mostly Clear ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 05:10Z Doors open, Fans on 06:00Z Enclosure open 12:00Z Enclosure closed, Fans off Stowed at 30 deg alt, cartridge 6 installed. (procedure "readMurmurLogLine" line 73) invoked from within "readMurmurLogLine 2" (script bound to file event - binding deleted) This came up for both Jurek and I apparently because we were both running logTool. It was triggered by issuing loadCartridge. The curious thing is that subsequent attempts to reproduce the error didn't. We later found out why. logTool went dead after this error, but wasn't noticed until we tried issuing commands to it when we opened about 6 hours later. By dead we mean that none of the regularly updated tables had new entries, tables like offset and focus would not add an entry when their respective button was pushed, activity section showed nothing new. The result is that there were missing log entries for the first half of the night, though this shouldn't be much of a problem as we weren't open anyway.
