APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Monday May 26, 2003 (MJD 52786) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Atsuko Kleinman (day and night) Scot Kleinman ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- One new plate done- two old plates finished. First half of night lost to bad weather. 62lbs left in imager dewar, but French arrived last night, so we figured he'll be on top of it in a couple of hours -after the last fill. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon checkout: ------------------- Spectro focus checked. All in focus. We note the engCam is in the cart rack still - could the day staff please remove it? Evening: -------- We stayed closed (clouds and humidity) for the first half of the night, but opened at 07:00Z and started with cart 7, plate 1328. GSOTGTF. We got a (S/N)^2 of over 11 on the first 900s exposure, despite clouds. We shortened the next two exposures and finished this plate in 35m of exposure. We then went for the cart 8 plate 1350 - to finish off some earlier exposures. This time, we saw no guide stars, nor FK5 - clouds? Nope - clouds around, but none thick enough to do this. We decided to unmount, then remount the cartridge to see if that cleared things up. On this gotoField, we got 11600ish too large to correct az fiducial errors. We re-fiducialized and re-wentToField. Still no GSOTGTF, but we did find an fk5 star not too far out this time (see offsets). And then guide stars! Not sure exactly what happened. Once we got the guideStars, the guider efficiency was really low (30%), so maybe this was just due to clouds (and the different offset needed and the need to refiducialize....?). And not sure how to charge the timeTracker here, so left it as default - all in spectroSetup. We got the one needed exposure for this plate and went to cart 1 plate 1341. Again, we got an az too large to correct fiducial crossing on the gotoField. No GSOTGTF, so we re-fiducialized (moths?) and tried again. Again no GSOTGTF, but at this point, we had cleared the calib offsets. An fk5 star was easily found, however. (And indeed the needed offsets were close to those from the last plate.) We finished the remaining S/N in this plate in one exposure. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3954 23:31Z 00:02Z 100 O -53.83 -46.22 65 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): y (but last exposure) UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 21111, plate -9999 ------- 23:33 21111 0.0 bias ----- sequence 21112, plate 1341 ------- 00:13 21112 10.0 flat 00:19 21113 2.1 arc 00:22 21114 2.1 arc ----- sequence 21115, plate -9999 ------- 00:29 21115 0.0 bias ----- sequence 21116, plate 1328 ------- 07:13 21116 10.0 flat 07:15 21117 2.0 arc 07:39 21118 900.1 target 07:52 21119 600.1 target 08:05 21120 600.1 target 08:12 21121 240.0 smear ----- sequence 21122, plate 1350 ------- 09:04 21122 10.0 flat 09:07 21123 2.0 arc 09:31 21124 1000.1 target 09:38 21125 240.0 smear ----- sequence 21126, plate 1341 ------- 09:58 21126 10.0 flat 10:00 21127 2.0 arc 10:21 21128 900.1 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 07:35Z 7 1328 220.76 0.0057 61.34 0.0028 61.31 -0.0103 1.000150 09:13Z 8 1350 245.54 0.0030 45.00 0.0009 100.01 -0.0124 1.000130 10:06Z 1 1341 259.99 0.0037 56.84 0.0014 101.75 -0.0086 1.000080 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 07:34Z 7 1328 1.00015 -1480 -302 -225 221 61.4 11.2 7 6 gdr 1.8 09:15Z 8 1350 1.00013 -1283 -39 -175 245 44.6 9.9 19 51 gdr 2.2 10:06Z unknown 1.00008 -789 332 -175 260 56.8 9.4 18 57 gdr 1.9 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:15Z 56 36 0 185 (S) 983 - 23:48Z 57 36 5 268 (W) 878 - 00:18Z 58 36 4 200 (SSW) 851 - 00:36Z 59 36 0 247 (WSW) 828 - 01:08Z 59 36 7 192 (SSW) 901 - 01:40Z 55 36 8 199 (SSW) 870 - 02:12Z 52 36 7 135 (SE) 1023 - 02:44Z 50 42 10 78 (ENE) 930 - 03:17Z 49 44 12 80 (E) 985 - 03:49Z 49 44 12 77 (ENE) 1110 - 04:21Z 49 44 12 60 (ENE) 1085 - 04:53Z 51 42 12 48 (NE) 1043 - 05:25Z 52 40 13 42 (NE) 950 - 05:58Z 52 39 9 25 (NNE) 894 - 06:30Z 52 38 13 20 (NNE) 949 - 07:02Z 52 38 12 9 (N) 979 - 07:32Z 51 39 4 28 (NNE) 879 - 08:02Z 51 39 8 17 (NNE) 894 - 08:32Z 50 38 14 54 (NE) 765 - 09:02Z 49 38 16 37 (NE) 752 - 09:35Z 49 39 16 46 (NE) 652 - 10:05Z 48 39 16 64 (ENE) 736 - 10:36Z 47 40 16 60 (ENE) 862 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Doors open, fans on: 01:45Z Closed all: 03:00Z (clouds, coming rain, humidity) Opened again: ~07:00Z Closed: ~10:45Z No interlocks bypassed ---=== SOFTWARE USED ===--- IOP/SOP: v3_113_1 Watcher: v2_22_0 MCP: v5_18_0 TPM: tpm_v2_29_0 AstroDa: v14_47 TCC: TCC 2.6.8 November 13 2002 sdssProcedures: v1_69 SoS: v4_9_13 hoggPT: v1_6_8 plate-mapper: v4_2_0 ---=== MIRROR NUMBERS ===--- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A 0.0990 0.0790 Axial B 0.8150 0.7970 Axial C 0.8280 0.8240 Trans D -9.0570 -9.0560 Lateral E 1.8580 1.8870 Lateral F 0.0000 1.4300 GALILS Commanded: 5400. -3700. 900. -200. 31550. 30650.
