Got 31S done with no problems (contrary to last night) and 30N which finishes off that stripe. A bit of 28N as well; too late in the night for the high priority oblique scan. We had one PTVME failure and repeated TPM M2 MIG alarms. We got imager donuts and they looked normal to our eyes. We ran the DIMM on Polaris all night. Scot's mouse pointer moved over 854m in the course of tonight's observations. We're thinking of starting a new nightLog section for mouse mileage. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- No problems during afternoon check. Spectrograph focus not checked as imager was mounted on telescope. Evening: -------- Run 3964 ------- We decided to start with imaging despite a potential threat from Eastern clouds. We hoped they'd disappear as they did last night. We started with 31 S - starting well before twilight so we could investigate the pointing problems we had last night. Turns out our paranoia on pointing was baseless - skippy ran right away, producing good results on this strip with all calib offsets removed. Well, we were due for another case of no guide stars in a cartridge or something. Here it is. We started this run (3964) before twilight at lambda=8. Focus had converged before twilight by frame 36. Start of rampup around frame 55, lambda=22, 4 minutes before 18deg twilight. Twilight came officially at lambda=23.3, frame 65. Lambda=24 passed while frame 69 scrolled past on the monitors. SoK declared seeing "bad" (but not that bad) at Frame 250 Longitude 51.1. Seeing turned acceptable again at Frame 285 Longitude 56.4. We're going to declare it all acceptable for now. We reached lambda=63 at frame 330; lambda=65 at frame 643; we stopped the run at frame 644. Run 3965 -------- Next on to 30N, starting at lambda=32. The focus was good at the start of this run (3965) and skippy reported good results immediately as well, although nuErr was 12.8". Frame 16 corresponds to lambda=34 (start of ramp). Frame 29 = the scienceLambda of 36. We crossed endLambda=63 at frame 210 and stopped the run at lambda=65+, frame 224 (last good frame=223). The nu error decreased for most of the run (while the rotator error increased, but always within tolerance). Run 3967 -------- We were too late now for the high priority oblique scan, so we continued with strip 28N, starting at lambda=40. After issuing the goDrift, we got a PTVME failure. See Problem section. A ptvmeReset cleared things up. We charged the lost time to daHardware, fwiw. Data appear in focus and skippy is good by frame 10, lambda=41.5. Lambda=42 at ~frame 13 and science lambda=44 start at frame 26. This is run 3967; run 3966 sort of vanished with the PTVME problem. SoK declared the seeing bad between Frame 49 Longitude 47.4 and Frame 99 Longitude 54.9. For now, we're just going to declare all this run as good - Steve let me (Scot) know if you want to change this. Drift ended at twilight at lambda=59, frame=128. Run 3968 ------- We took donuts in a separate run (3968) for JEG. Frame 10 is good focus; 13 is -300 and frame 16 is plus 300.
