We imaged 28 S from lambda 51.3 to 66. Finished one plate (1034). Good data on another plate (1023). ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- The guider Mac needed to be restarted this afternoon to get the guider working. There were windscreen touches during afternoon checkout: altitude (Windscreen touched in altitude: DOWN (2003-06-23 01:06:11Z sdssmcp): 2003-06-23 01:06:29Z) and also altitude (Windscreen touched in altitude: DOWN (2003-06-23 02:33:16Z sdssmcp): 2003-06-23 02:33:37Z) After mounting the imager we could not move the telescope from zenith. The altitude brake refused to disengage. After some investigation we called Jon Brinkmann who helped us diagnose the problem. Safety latch #2 had not engaged (or if it did, the sensor did not detect it). We remounted the imager, all was well and we got on the sky just before twilight ended. Run 4001: bias on the telescope. Run 4002, 26 N: Good from frame 20, lambda = 18.7. Offsets were cleared before the scan. However, pointing was not that great. Although still acceptable, nuErr was 12" (and muErr was -10") at frame 20. There was some haze present in the cloud camera at various times between 0550Z and 0620Z, the worst being between 0611 and 0615. At one point during this time the standard deviation on the cloud camera was actually above 10 (15 was the highest value it reached). Other than this, the data are good to the end (frame 336, lambda 66). Good seeing throughout. Run 4003, 28 S: Good from frame 10, lambda = 51.3. Pointing was better with nuErr = 0.7" (muErr was still -11.5") at frame 10. Imaging QA was performed on this run. Some slight haze around 0745 but standard deviation on the cloud camera remained below 10. Other than this, the data are good to the end (frame 111, lambda 66). Good seeing throughout. Run 4004, donuts: In focus = frame 10 -300 = frame 14 +300 = frame 18 Frames can be found in the usual place (/data/photo/optics/52813). The moon rose and we switched to spectroscopy. Cartridge 1023 (plate 4): Needed an FK5 star to acquire the guide stars. Two good exposures obtained (2100 s total) before availabilty expired. Cartridge 1034 (plate 9): Guide stars on the gotoField. When combined with data from previous nights (52811, 52812), this plate was finished in two exposures (2100 s total). Windscreen touch when closing: altitude (Windscreen touched in altitude: UP (2003-06-23 10:53:04Z sdssmcp): 2003-06-23 10:53:23Z) endNight still running as this is written. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY
