APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Monday August 18, 2003 (MJD 52870) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Day: Scot Kleinman Night: Dan Long Howard Brewington French Leger ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Shake! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We had a couple of software problems, vis., tccmon and startDa -tcc. However, the Segue version of tccmon worked without problems. Landru does not beep. As detailed in the logbook, the PT FF lamp was replaced on 06 August. Some time was used to home and relax the mirrors. The imager biasCheck worked well. We had to bypass two interlocks after pulling the 2.5m enclosure, vis., building clear az and alt. We were unable to complete the pointing model because the engineering camera did not work. One of the imager safety latches did not engage when we mounted the imager. Imager system aliveness checkout went well. Got donuts, checked collimation and pointing. Russell's tracking test performed. Imager drift done with new FF lamps (see log for details). ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- During the afternoon after doing a "startDa -tcc" in IOP or SOP, we got a "1;2c" at the prompt. Craig has fixed this problem. Tccmon also had a problem; the prompt would not return after the tccNode command. Scot and Craig are aware of this problem. Landru does not beep when watcher complains. We checked the PT logbook, and the FF lamp was replaced on 06 August. Clouds and lightning prevented us from opening the 2.5m enclousure early in the evening. So, this time was used to home and relax the mirros. Next, we did a doghouse bias with the imager and performed the biasCheck tasks. All worked well. However, Dan's IOP session stopped working. And, he could not start a new IOP session until I killed my SOP GUI. Next, we mounted the engineering camera and opened the 2.5m enclousure. When we tried to axis init the telescope, however, it would not. We had to bypass two interlocks, vis., building clear az and building clear alt. But then, we had a problem with the engineering camera. Although the engin cam worked okay at first, it soon stopped. We tried recycling the power on the camera and rebooting the guider camera (Mac) computer. Later while at the telescope and checking connections on the engineering camera, we smelled something overheating in the electronics of the camera. We think it could be the power supply for the CCD. French looked for a replacement power supply, but he was unable to find one. Consequently, we did not complete the pointing model. About 2:00 a.m., we swithched to the imager. After mounting the imager, we could not axis init the telescope because an imager safety latch was unhappy. French adjusted it, and we were able to get on the sky to perform a system aliveness check. We started a scan; the focus loop and skippy worked fine. We looked at donuts on both sides of focus and did not see any major problems with the scope's collimation. The donuts were part of run #4063. Frame 45 was in focus, frame 57 was +300, and frame 73 was -300. Donuts were symmetric and saved on Phoenix. Only dewar 6 showed them slightly distorted; nothing unusual there. Decent seeing, but a fair amount of clouds. Pointing looks pretty good (within 6 arcseconds). Rotator was right on. We checked the Segue version of tccmon, and it worked okay for standard imaging. We also performed Russell's tracking test in Run #4065, which was above the equator and Run #4064, which was below the equator. We only had time to do a few degrees. Skippy was happy though, and the test seemed to be a success. And, we did a drift in the dark enclosure with the imager FF lamps on. We will do the checkFlat tasks tomorrow. None of tonight's data was saved to tape; we did a -doTpm to cloudy tapes. However, if anyone wants any of tonight's data, please let us know later today before the tapes are relabeled. endNight finished and was happy. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4062 04:36Z 04:54Z 100 O 105.46 -53.37 41 ignore 4063 08:33Z 09:29Z 10 N 161.49 -184.33 107 engineering 4064 09:41Z 10:14Z 17 S -179.50 -171.29 69 ignore 4065 10:16Z 11:16Z 76 N -179.57 -164.60 114 engineering 4066 11:38Z 11:56Z 100 O -148.78 -144.24 44 calibration ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4063 24 4 47 -0.900 0.565 -5.500 0.707 -0.00017 186 57 4063 95 4 58 -1.000 0.131 -5.800 0.104 -0.00202 186 57 4064 16 4 50 -0.100 0.158 -4.600 0.132 -0.00647 182 40 4065 26 4 55 -6.400 0.149 -5.100 0.133 0.00414 210 70 4065 78 4 46 -5.400 0.107 -5.600 0.118 0.00394 209 70 ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4063 36 1 57 354 13 0.400 0.193 0.574 0.225 -0.00193 4063 36 1 57 354 21 0.363 0.135 0.467 0.186 -0.00157 4063 36 1 57 354 13 0.505 0.201 0.769 0.197 -0.00259 4063 36 1 57 354 14 0.631 0.105 0.645 0.233 -0.00217 4063 36 1 57 354 16 0.336 0.235 0.310 0.226 -0.00104 4065 53 1 70 331 15 0.334 0.243 -1.593 0.175 0.00536 4065 53 1 70 331 12 0.247 0.178 -1.635 0.116 0.00550 4065 53 1 70 331 10 0.367 0.168 -1.541 0.138 0.00518 4065 53 1 70 331 17 0.394 0.188 -1.730 0.189 0.00582 4065 53 1 70 331 23 0.337 0.145 -1.871 0.218 0.00629 4065 89 1 70 331 9 1.269 0.161 -1.392 0.142 0.00468 4065 89 1 70 331 15 1.404 0.079 -1.459 0.157 0.00491 4065 89 1 70 331 10 1.437 0.134 -1.163 0.160 0.00391 4065 89 1 70 331 6 1.384 0.180 -1.291 0.173 0.00434 4065 89 1 70 331 6 1.442 0.143 -1.442 0.291 0.00485 ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL cloudy Stays: JL cloudy ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 01:56Z 62 43 11 122 (ESE) 529 - clouds 02:28Z 62 43 11 126 (SE) 592 - clouds 02:59Z 63 42 7 154 (SSE) 579 - clouds 03:33Z 64 41 10 136 (SE) 572 - clouds 04:09Z 63 41 11 133 (SE) 502 - clouds 04:46Z 63 42 15 146 (SE) 502 - clouds 05:18Z 61 45 15 150 (SSE) 535 - scattered clouds 05:50Z 61 44 13 172 (S) 495 - scattered clouds 06:22Z 61 43 15 153 (SSE) 474 - scattered clouds 06:55Z 61 43 19 157 (SSE) 478 - scattered clouds 07:27Z 60 43 20 150 (SSE) 475 - scattered clouds 07:59Z 60 43 16 179 (S) 484 - scattered clouds 08:31Z 61 43 17 179 (S) 496 - scattered clouds 09:04Z 60 43 15 156 (SSE) 498 - scattered clouds 09:36Z 59 43 17 169 (S) 418 - scattered clouds 10:08Z 58 43 16 160 (SSE) 517 - scattered clouds 10:40Z 58 43 14 175 (S) 576 - scattered clouds 11:13Z 58 43 7 165 (SSE) 1043 - scattered clouds 11:45Z 58 43 5 183 (S) 2401 - scattered clouds ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 04:30Z Fans on, doors open. 05:30Z Enclosure off 11:30Z Enclosure on, fans off Status at 11:50Z: Telescope stowed at: 121,30,00 deg Instrument mounted: Imager Counterweights at: 725 Autofill systems: On 180L LN2 dewar scales: Spectro 65 lb, 26 psi Imager 226 lb, 21 psi No interlocks are bypassed. ---=== SOFTWARE USED ===--- IOP/SOP: v3_118_0 Watcher: v2_24_0 MCP: v5_20_0 TPM: tpm_v2_30_0 AstroDa: v14_47 TCC: v2_7_1 sdssProcedures: v1_73 SoS: V4_9_13 hoggPT: v1_6_6 plate-mapper: v4_2_0 ---=== MIRROR NUMBERS ===--- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A 0.0980 0.0790 Axial B 0.8140 0.7970 Axial C 0.8230 0.8240 Trans D -9.0960 -9.0560 Lateral E 1.8800 1.8870 Lateral F 0.0000 1.4300 GALILS Commanded: 5400. -3700. 900. -200. 31550. 30650.
